How far do you all run (preferably in km not miles) and how long does it take you?? thanks..

Im just wondering how many of you practise using both hands at the same time. An example is blocking with one hand and striking with the other on one 'beat'. One of the reasons for the hand being chambered at the side during kihon is so you become aware of the position of the hand all the time. This should help you with your double hand techniques. Wing chun uses this kind of thing quiet a bit. So tell me your thoughts.....

Another question for everyone... Do you parry attacks or absorb them on your arms. I do a mixture of both but i prefer to parry where possible because this generally gives me more options.

If you want to learn them properly i surgest you find a school where the instructor helps you out a bit more.

I read an article about a bjj black belt who witnessed a car being stolen and one of the guys got out of the car and aproached the bjj guy. Basically the other guys drove off in the car and the bjj guy took the man down and restrained him until police arrived. Neither of them suffered injuries. This shows that bjj 'can' be effective, just like any other style 'can' be effective. There are just loads of variables. -
Depends how and where i am training, in the dojo i dont but if i am training at home i occasionally will.

I agree with treebranch. You can't always see the effectiveness of a style by watching a guy win or lose in a competition. Its just like saying people crash cars all the time, therefore driving is useless. But really its the driver of the car who is useless. A skillful driver will have no problems on the road. So basically if you learn and understand your style well and realise what it is designed for, then all styles have to potential to effective. -
To Study One Art or Multiple Arts?
cross replied to RJRKihap's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree with granmasterchen. Some techniques become more of a 'reflex' than others and it usually wont take a moment of thought to use these techniques. -
Well if all you plan to do is block you are going to get hit. All defensive techniques should 'set-up' attacking techniques. So to answer your question, you need blocks when another person is trying to hit/grab/push you, or when you are preparing, or actually attacking them. But like granmasterchen said, you wont always be able to block so you can move out of the way, or cover up with your arms and absorb the attack.

Basically this is how its done: 1. Front foot moves 2. Hip rotation 3. Transfer of weight including leg straightening or bending

I agree with what ramymensa said. talk to your instructor and if he cant give you what you want leave. Because martial arts is about the perfection of self. How can you do that if not even the instructor is helping you.
