I said Frodo, because you did not give the option of Samwise Gamgee. If more people wanted to be like Sam, the world would be a better place. I'm a big fan of second breakfasts and elevensies. I'm short and would have furry feet if I didn't shave them to avoid ripping hair out on the mat. And while I've never had to fight the last child of Ungoliant to save a friend, I'd like to think that I would.

Advice to someone just about to start their MA journey
MasterPain replied to DWx's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is it. I don't have nearly as much time to train as I would like, I'm not a natural athlete. If I needed to be the best to enjoy it, I never would have kept it up. I do martial arts because I love it and it makes me happy. If you can find joy in your art, what more can you ask for? -
I never see sparring with weapons at tournaments...
MasterPain replied to AdamKralic's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
One of my goals for later in my life is to fight in a gathering. I don't expect to ever do enough traveling to become a Dog, but I do agree with Guro Crafty's belief in the need for rites of passage. I also like their idea of the gathering not being a competition, but a way to strengthen yourself as well as the other members through the test of fighting. -
Most Popular Martial Arts Practiced by KF Members
MasterPain replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
Very cool! Interesting to see. I wish we had more FMA and Silat people here. One thing I must point out though, Bujin Bugei Jutsu is not associated with the Bujinkan, so with 4 members we should be #57. -
Combat sports, gymnastics, figure skating, and occasionally hockey. So "other" but rugby is fun to watch, but it's never on the telly over here where it's the TV.

When did martial arts become a kid thing?
MasterPain replied to Sifu88's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Food for thought, in more dangerous times and places, kids are taught martial arts more seriously. Some kids classes are just social clubs, some are serious about defense and competition. -

Thanks everyone. I definitely look forward to getting on here more. -
I think controlling range and transitioning between them is a specialization of it's own. And I do think the concept often does not get enough attention.

The best kick for self defense
MasterPain replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
If the low round kick is thrown with proper penetration and with intent against someone who doesn't know how to defend it, it can knock the ball out of the socket of the hip. -
Musashi, Bruce Lee, Whoever wins the Gracie family Feats of Strength during Festivus, Dan Inosanto, Mark Denny, Anderson Silva, Tony Jaa, Hwang Jang Lee, Don Frye's Moustache of Manliness, Audi Murphy..... Too many greats to pick the best.

Former training partner was attacked
MasterPain replied to Wastelander's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The girl needs to start seeing a professional therapist if possible, both to deal with the effects of abuse and to try to deal with any issues that could lead to future abusive relationships. Otherwise, this did no good. Hope everything gets better for her. -
With the dogs, the end result would be staying treed or holding point. The end result needs reinforced the most, so this makes sense. Kata is sequential, so it would be better to teach in segments from the beginning.

Favorite Sweep
MasterPain replied to pittbullJudoka's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I've really liked my flower sweep lately. -
Fair warning, it's a ridiculous comedy that uses footage from an old movie called Tiger and Crane Fists. Watch the old movie first if you can. The editing for Kung Pow is awe inspiring.

Don't worry so much about it. You are fairly new in the arts, so take it from a balding guy with some grey in his beard, STAY OUT OF POLITICS!!!! A wise man (or a jerk) once said "Shut up and train." My mother taught me to be more polite than that, but the sentiment remains the same no matter the words used. Learn what you can, work hard at it, make sure it works and have fun doing it.

Mine comes from the villain of Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. I've always loved a good villain, I was a smart mark by the age of 10 and was a fan of heels. Master Pain (Evil Betty) is a great bad guy and has amazing Iron Shirt skill. If you look back in my lineage there's a bit of Jukokai, so it makes sense. And beware the song about big butts.. He beats you up while he plays it.

Video is set to private. Change your setting and I'll get back to it.

What does thos say about martial arts?
MasterPain replied to cheesefrysamurai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've followed the show since it began. Love it. It's worth noting that Master Ken has a black belt in Kenpo in real life.
