Get a piece of paper and give it a try. Tell a friend who knows everything that you have a little test for them to take. It's fun, give it a try. A link to the answers is at the bottom. Don't Cheat! 1. Is there a fourth of July in England? 2. How many birthdays does the average man have? 3. Some months have 31 days, how many have 28? 4. How many outs are there in an inning? 5. Is it legal for a man in California to marry his widow's sister? 6. Divide 30 by 1/2 and add 10. What is the answer? 7. If there are 3 apples and you take away 2, how many do you have? 8. A doctor gives you three pills telling you to take one every half hour. How many minutes would the pills last? 9. A farmer has 17 sheep, and all but 9 die. How many are left? 10. How many animals of each sex did Moses take on the ark? 11. A clerk in the butcher shop is 5'10" tall. What does he weigh? 12. How many two cent stamps are there in a dozen? 13. You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in? 14. If you overtake the last person, then you are...? 15. Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only. Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it: Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total? 16. Mary's father has five daughters: Nana, Nene, Nini, Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter? Hello, I found this link that I believe is the kata that you are asking about. The name is spelled differently, here's a link to explain difference in the name http://www.24fightingchickens.com/kata/09_canon.html Here's one to explain the kata, http://www.24fightingchickens.com/kata/kankusho.html Check it out and see if it's the one your looking for. I hope so. Greg

Jason Stanley - 3rd Dan Shitoryu, Has some e-books for sale on karatetips.com. I have gotten one and it's pretty good, especially for those just starting Martial arts. The price is reasonable. Hope this helps. G

Not very common in the high schools here where I live. Newnan, Georgia USA. When I went to college I was able to take a fencing class which was very fun. They didn't offer a Martial Art as a course you could take but they did have classes that were held in the gym if you wanted to pay.

Here's a good site that will translate just about any language. It also will give you the kanji for the words it tranlates. After you look a word up go to the bottom of the page and you will find the kanji link. Sorry, forgot to attach the link. Go to the site and scroll down to the language section. http://www.travlang.com/languages/

Hello and Welcome, as the others have said your posts have been noticed and I know that I have enjoyed reading them. My Hanshi has been studying for 37 yrs. and was brought up through a very strict and formal background. Lucky for us he thinks the way you do and runs a relaxed dojo who loves to get questions asked of him and truly enjoys passing on the knowledge he has acquired over these many years. Makes for a great learning environment. Welcome once again! Greg

I'm 5' 10" and about 200 lbs. and have average size hands. When I spar I like to wear the adult small for myself. I can wear the mediums without a problem but I prefer a tight fit especially when my hands get sweaty. I hope this helps a little. Be sure to check and see if they have any kind of sizing chart as well.

We breath during kata and techniques, not to the point where it is very loud or disruptive. Well placed exhales can give you more power in your punch etc.

Glad to hear you're going to hang with it. The things we do too continue to train in the art we love are often tough decisions to make but normally worth the effort. My son goes into the Navy this August so I can relate to what your saying. He trains with me as well and will have to give it up in a few months. I hope you find a dojo close by.

As I race across the room with my walker to retrieve the remote. Thanks for reminding me of how old I am Monkeygirl. Not even born yet? The A-team was a good one. Never get tried of watching new ways to trick Mr. T onto an airplane. How about Knightrider and that talking car? The show that I'm hooked on today has got to be 24. Can't what for the new season to start!

Welcome, sorry about the injury. I think it's great that you still show a very active interest in the art. I think a lot would have given up!

Alright Jey, glad you found your way here. Hope you have some luck finding out more about your style. Once again welcome!
-
Glad you found us. Enjoy looking around. Lots of knowledge here. Welcome!

Thanks Sai, I just turned my clock back. It will take about two weeks before I get them all however!

No Prob! Glad you like, if you havn't already check out the highlights from - Royce Gracie vs Kazushi Sakuraba match that's a good one. They don't call Sakuraba the "Gracie Hunter" for nothing. Worth a look!

Looks like another way to describe the push - pull action that you're doing front punches to generate power. The action of the hands resembles the pulling of a chain maybe?

sherdog.com has vids of the ufc and mma. Some are pretty good. Bas Rutten is a pretty bad dude.

Hey Jey, welcome to the forum. If you would to tell us more about yourself there is a Introduction section where you can do that. Now, as for as your question goes I can't find anything that references that style. Your best place to find information should be with your Sensei. He/She should be willing to tell you the history behind it i.e. founder, roots from another style etc. Welcome once again!

I've not familar with a traditional 5th dan ranking system. All that I've heard of involve 10. I found this out about the 11th and 12th dans in the judo ranking system. Hope it helps. At one point in the early 20th century Dr Jigaro Kano founder of Judo and usually credited as the inventor of the ranking system had included 11th and 12th Dan rankings after he had been awarded 10th Dan, he said "There can never be an end to learning, when you reach the top of one mountain there is always another one to climb".
