  1. White Warlock, Thank You for showing restraint it was noticed and appreciated. It seems we haven't been able to get back on the topic here even though there has been some good discussion here on all sides about varying opinions and differences in beliefs. Good discussion is what this forum is all about but I feel this has gone on long enough and nothing new or helpful would come from letting it continue. With that said I'm going to lock this thread. Thank you all for your contributions to this forum. I and many others look forward to your posts on other topics here at KF. Greg
  2. Why don't we all just agree to disagree and let it come to a conclusion. You both have some good points. Let's get back on topic. I would hate to see this thread locked because of a back and forth disagreement between two good posters. Thanks in advanced for your cooperation. Greg
  3. The style I train in has White, Yellow, Green, Purple, Brown, Brown/Red, Red and Black.

  6. Nice Article! Explains it very well. Thanks for the good read.
  7. No Prob! Glad you decided to join us!
  8. OK guys, so far everyone has been pretty respectful in stating thier difference of opinions here. Lets keep it that way please. Everyone on this board has an opinion that may not be agreed upon by all, and stating so is OK as long as it doesn't resort to personnel attacks and taunting. Let's all play nice! Thanks
  9. Hey Erin, Welcome to the forums! I'm going to move this to the intro section so we can all greet you properly. Anything that gets you back in the Martial Arts is a good thing.
  10. I agree, sounds like that might be the one for you. Keep your appointments and check out the other schools just to be sure. But always go with your gut feeling. If it feels right, it probably is. It sounds like you've done some good research, so you should feel confident in your decision. Good Luck! Greg

  15. Welcome!
  16. Hand/eye coordination is very important in Martial Arts as well as other things you do in everyday life. Oh Aefibird, I would like to go ahead and book you for my next party if possible.
  17. Your absolutely right DM. It's reminded me of the word that we're not allowed to say in our dojo. "Can't" Our Hanshi tells us, "tell me you're not good at something" or "tell me you won't do something, but never tell me you can't do it".
  18. Thanks DM for making me re-think my crooked straight lines. Maybe I have some talent after all. You're right though, I guess anyone can have talent. It's all about how it's perceived I guess. Thanks
  19. Hello Luckyboxer. Great to have you on board. Sounds like you have plenty of experience in and out of the dojo. Looking forward to your posts. Welcome once again!
  20. I envy you guys with talent. I have a cousin who is a fantastic artist and sells his works. I on the other hand have trouble drawing a straight line or making a circle look like a circle. I guess he got all the art genes. You guys keep up the good works, I'll keep trying to get my lines straight.
  21. Will it does seem you have a lot of choices in your area. That's good, I know some here who are given very few styles to choose from. By all means take advantage of the free week of training. That will give you an idea of what it's like at that school. A couple of the schools mentioned do seem to be a little high in price but if you feel like you are getting your money's worth then that's all that matters. I really don't know much about the instructors you mentioned but some others here may know them or had some pass dealings with them. Be careful when contracts are involved, be sure to read it all and don't be pressured into anything you might regret. As for with style? It depends a lot on what you want to get out of it personnally. I practice a traditional style which I love but some mayt find it too slow in the learning process and want something that may produce results faster. To each his own. I hope this has helped some. Good luck in finding whats right for you.
  22. Here are a couple that I like: A martial arts student went to his teacher and said earnestly, "I am devoted to studying your martial system. How long will it take me to master it." The teacher's reply was casual, "Ten years." Impatiently, the student answered, "But I want to master it faster than that. I will work very hard. I will practice everyday, ten or more hours a day if I have to. How long will it take then?" The teacher thought for a moment, "20 years." The Fence - Author Unknown There was a little boy with a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, to hammer a nail in the back fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Then it gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say 'I'm sorry', the wound is still there."
