Hello John, Glad you decided to join us.

A lot depends on what you are looking to get out of Martial Arts. Martial Arts takes many years of training to be very, very good at. Our Hanshi told us after almost two years of training that we knew just enough to get hurt. And now after almost four more years of training I understand what he was saying. That's why you hear that Martial Arts is a way of life. Many here will tell you that the real training starts after receiving your black belt. There is no bad style of Martial Art in my opinion, you can have a bad instructor. All styles have pros and cons. If your just starting ask your Sensei lots of questions and practice what you learn in the dojo at home and anywhere else you get the opprotunity. It will help you progress, forgetting about it when you walk out the dojo door will not make you a Martial Artist. Others here may know more about your style and can tell you more details about it.

Best fight scene ever
gheinisch replied to ramcalgary's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I loved Jet Li in "Fist of Legend" and I also liked that Billy Jack scene. I've heard they are going to remake "Billy Jack". -
I work with Delta International Cargo and we have gotten a few of the Elise in to be sold here. They are very sharp looking. I think we have gotten the race oriented one as well. They have hard tops and a racing harness for the driver. I love the colors they come in. One night we got one of each color in. Looked like a rainbow.

We're not all like that DM. However I do see your point. I often get into a good natured argument with my 18 yr. old son who believes that more "Horse Power" is the answer to everything. I on the other hand say a skilled driver can take a race before horse power can. The "Elise" is a great little car that is all about weight and power. It's only 1975 lbs with only 190 HP I believe but can still go 0-60 in under 5 sec. If the guy manages to get a V8 in it, it would ruin the performance. The price isn't too bad on one of them either. Still too much for me though!

WESTERN martial arts teacher in JAPAN
gheinisch replied to Aitor's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, first off let me welcome you to the forums. You should go to the intro section and tell us a little about yourself. I found this about Donn Draeger saying he was the first Westerner to open a MA school in Japan. Not sure how accurate it is. I'm sure there is others that claim the same. It does look like he was the first in many competitions held Japan. Try a google search with his name and see what comes up. Hope this helps! "Donn Draeger, an American martial arts pioneer and some say the model for the character frequently portrayed by Steven Seagal, was an ex-Marine who lived in Japan and studied the Way of the Empty Hand for many years following WWII. He was the first Westerner to open a martial arts school in Japan, a testament to his skill and dedication. But, even that decade of difficult and often brutal training in the Japanese version of the Shaolin Temple, the Dojo, to earn respect and gain ability is more than most people are willing to endure. You've gotten some good advise here. You say you're not going to the cops but someone should be informed of your situation. If they start leaving you alone they'll just look for another victim. MT is a great art that can teach you some techniques quicker than some arts out there. Our instructor informed us after receiving out yellow belts that we knew just enough to get hurt. So don't expect to be ready to defend yourself after a week of classes. That goes for any art that you might decide on. MT is a stand up fighting art and is limited on ground fighting techniques so consider that as well. Your friend in MT has given you good advise, check out the class and see what you think. Hope all turns out well. Good luck in finding an art that suits you.
