  1. Point sparring
  2. Ah, i c I know who you mean (her name is J*d* ), and I know the guy (Andy Finn jr.) Oh, and Kensai - you get that a lot at competitions. I was once taught by a man who told me to follow in with an elbow when I threw a punch. Someone else I know teaches their kids to stand on the opponents toes whilst punching them in the face, therefore not letting them escape. But in the end it was fun.....I think........LOL
  3. Joanne I left the comp. before the end series of sparring. Care to inform me of what happened? Cheers Tobias
  4. I have osteochrondritis in my knees, but I was told I would grow out of it. I was told this 3 years ago........ It is very common in teenagers apparantly - but yes, it is very annoying. It stopped me from using rowing machines
  5. Ah......you must mean Shushi-no-kon-sho. A very good kata. The first kata we learn/teach is Shushi-no-kon - in Matayoshi Kobudo, there is no Sho/Dai in this kata, for some strange reason. Blame it on Shimpo Matayoshi Just remember to make it look effective, performing the throat hooking blocks with extreme effect. (Oh wait - does 'sho' use throat hooking blocks? Are they something exclusive to Matayoshi style? I cannot remember!!!)
  6. Oh Thai_Kick, you do make me laugh.
  7. Which bo kata?
  8. For some strange reason I seem to have totally ignored this topic whenever it came up on my screen. I have no idea why - such is my dedication to the internet community Fine by me - whatever floats your boat. I aint gunna push my thoughts or theories onto you, unlike many of the ppl here. Not in my country it isn't.........a weapon is a weapon is a weapon. I just think that a belt isnt as obvious as a Bowie. Just a thought.
  9. My God, we finally have some people talking sense here.......takes me back to the days of IAMRUSHMAN and TAESUJUTSUDRW. I like it..........I like it a lot.......
  10. Yup, we do...........or maybe not.........oh well, just look at my signature quote........... ^I think that somes it all up Once again
  11. In the left corner...Shotochem, G95Champ, Ramymensa and Tobias_Reece. In the right corner...Andrew Green (Sorry all, but once again after been morally and physically outraged by the ignorance of Andrew, thast all I can manage )
  12. Of course...thats how it should be. Also, if you think thats hard, come and try a class in Matayoshi Okinawan Kobudo - you'll spend years just doing Bo hojo-undo ichi. Whether your a 10th Kyu or a 5th Kyu, you will still do he same basic thing, except at 5th Kyu you'll do it better (Oh, and thanks to Ramy for backing me up on this one) Regards
  13. No cheeky commments from me....just basic questions. But hey, some people might think I'm being cheeky - but I'm sure by now that everyone is clear that I have been severely offended by your original post. Guess its the Yoda coming out of me........
  14. Oh - does this mean that the students with one belt higher than you do completely different techniques, and have different tuition? Besides, if you're not ready to 'learn' these new techniques, wouldn't it be better than you stuck with the ones you knew - just to get them 'right' You should go at your own speed, its not a competition between you and your fellow students. You must realise that. Regards
  15. I mean its 'stupid' you thinking that you can grade even though you fall behind in all aspects. BUT........ Don't think that getting that next belt is the most important thing in the world - so what if you miss a grading? Wouldn't it be better to be a good Purple Belt than a really bad Brown Belt? ^Does this mean you won't be attending classes for three months, or won't be practising? You're lost me, because as long as you're attending classes and practising, you will still learn.
  16. I got my 1st Kyu at 11 (I think) then my 1st Dan at 15 This is purely because my club did a series of 1st Kyu gradings to recognise seniority - you had to grade for your 1st Kyu 7 times. The club didn't believe in giving BBs to ppl under 16. I joined a new club when I was 15 at got my Shodan. Strange I know.....but interesting
  17. "Meep meep, I'm going to take over the world using a small yet highly efficient bicycle" You see, I can make stupid comments as well. (I'm goodness I'm a nasty man )
  18. Yup, Taishos. Its probably just a variation, or maybe its just from someone who forgot the original kata and made it up LOL - I've seen that happen before.....
  19. Should be fun for the first few months, when you do a TKD guard in boxing and get a punch in the head - then you do a boxing guard in TKD and get kicked in the stomach. But joking aside, you will learn how to put power behind a punch - something that you might not learn in TKD But I don't know much about this lark - I just throw around a big stick.
  20. Just an addition to the above post......... We still train in all the weapons no matter how high the rank. For example, I just passed my 3rd kyu, in which I had to use the kama for the first time, but I also had to demonstrate the bunkai from a kata for both the bo (Cho-un-no-kon) and tunkua (tsun-kuwa-kata-ichi).
  21. In Internation Okinawan Kobudo Association UK (kobudo) the following order of weapons in used (up to black belt): Rokushaku bo (6ft staff) Nunchaku Sai (3 pronged metal truncheons) Tonfa/tunkua (pr24) kama (sickles) Iyeku (boat oar) Rokushaku bo training starts at novice Nunchaku at 10th Kyu Sai at 8th Kyu Tonfa at 6th Kyu Kama at 4th Kyu Iyeku at 3rd Kyu Helps? Hope it does Kama starts at 4th Kyu
  22. Maybe your instructor thinks you are competant, or maybe he thinks ure a trouble maker who needs teaching a lesson. Bet on the former though
  23. Then its settled - a nunti it is (I was hoping that what you would say ). Now I have to figure out how to use Kamakaze. LOL j/k
  24. Quite ironically, at the seminar (where I did my grading) the instructor (my examiner) joked about the nunchaku, saying that you can hurt yourself with them. He then poined out that if you worry about the nunchaku, then you'll worry even more about the three section staff. I actually looking into the Nunti....
  25. LOL, yeah I forgot - it was just me being a bit rude....if you'd have come on and started gabbling about hyungs I would have been clueless. Apologise...my bad..... Rokushaku bo - 6ft staff Nunchaku - everyone knows what these are Sai - 3 pronged metal truncheon Tsun kuwa/tonfa - pr24 baton Kama - sickles Iyeku - boat oar Tekko - knuckledusters Timbe/Timbe Rochin - short spear and shield Nunti - staff with manji-sai (swastica shaped sai) on the end Suruchin - traditionally a hemp rope with stones on the end. Very similar to the manriki chain. Kuwa - a garden hoe - yes, hoe Tettchu - like a mini tonfa that you can hold in your hand. Hope this clears things up. Cheers all
