I think many people would agree with me that it is very difficult to catagorise weapons into where they originated. IN MY STYLE(!!!)The tonfa were thought to have originated from a farming tool - but I'm sure a similar weapon was used in other countries before this. The kama is an interesting on. Once again, in my style it was thought to have originated from a farming tool- yet if you look at egyptian mythology the Anubis Guardians wielded sickle shaped weapons very similar to kama. Also, sickle tools would have been developed in the early ages of man.......so chances are a bronze age peasant used his sickle to defend himself when he was attacked by a nasty animal. So maybe, nearly every weapon you can think of would have been at some point a chinese weapon (as they were used by a chinese person ). But good question..........got me babbling. About the two handed broadsword........I'm sure that many kind of swords were introduced to China with the invasion of different 'groups'. Its like the Crusades in the middle east - if the middle east people hadn't seen a broadsword, I'm sure they would have been forced to learm about them as they found that they were being chopped in two by these giant weapons used by the invaders. Once again I am purely using my LIMITED knowledge. Good question though. (whats a unicorn sword - do u mean a kryll?)

Hey Neil - have you heard of a character called Eye of the Tiger? You seem like a very chilled out version of him. (suspicions.........)

I know of two nunchaku katas used in out style. I think that all we have. Most nunchaku katas are modern inventions, many based on basic kata - yondan for example (go-waza nunchaku)

Too late I prefered 'Simon's Quest', the sequel to Castlevania. My god that was a strange game - I remember having to hold the blue crystal whilst kneeling at a lake to open a secret passage....and those eyes......those horrible flying eyes...... Then there was the famous 'Link' - the hero who saved Princess Zelda....

I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. <A HREF="http://quiz.ravenblack.net/videogame.pl">What Video Game Character Are You?</A> </TD></TR></TABLE> You see - I forgt to start my brain. I just hope this works, else I shall look like a fool.[/code]

http://quiz.ravenblack.net/videogame/14.png Ah, Gauntlet. I remember playing it on the faithful NES. I also remember how it was impossible to complete unless you had a minimum of two players, due to the "I need food" rule. My parents stayed up one night and got to level 100, thinking it would end. It didn't. Of course, the horror of these kind of game was that no-one, and I mean no-one actually completed it. My god those games were good then

I always based my teenage years on two people - Simon the Sorcerer from the game of the same name, and Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island. But, that wasn't pre 1985, so I'm upset :'(

For this quote read: I only use this forum to insult other people's arts, when I clearly have no experience to back up my comments. I hate to be the one telling you this, but I have come across many people who go from art to art saying that they are trying to find the 'best' or that everyone they try is 'useless'. These people ARE called quiters. You may not think so, but behind your back all your fellow practitioners are calling you a quiter. I think its about time a moderator closed this thread - before someone does something stupid to someone else (me included) Regards

WOHO - quick, everyone, back off - it's quite clear we have a master here. If he can learn everything about SAMA in 4 months then we're in trouble....... Which British Karate Squad would that be? PoisonFree - don't worry, you're only dealing with an babbling egomaniac. We're all on your side (Hey look, I'm trolling again)

Goju-ryu, being an Okinawan form of Karate, has the same stances as other Okinawan styles. Matayoshi Kobudo is solely a weapon art, but it does use the stances found in Goju ryu - and other Okinawan art. The problem arises when I utilise my deep Shotokan stances Goju translates as hard-soft - so it could be quite suited to you. Take Care

TBKen was a man who shunned kata/hyungs/pomoose, ki/chi, and any form of combat that wasn't full contact with no rules. Thai_Kick is making the same type of comments - except TBKen was a bit more.......how can I say this........subtle (I think thats the word ) Ah, so many people have come and gone. Memories......

I'm having flashbacks..........the similarities...........Thai_Kick...........he's.........he's......really......ThaiBoxerKen.............ARGH Sorry, couldn't resist it

A Mixed MA Association can be a massive benefit to your club - but to some it may be a nightmare. Many associations have certain requirements that need to be met by the instructor before the club can be accepted into the association - for example the EKGB requires the instructor to be a 3rd dan. Not a big problem for many schools, but imagine this scenario - Bill has been a instructor in John's karate school for 6 years. John holds a 5th dan in "I-can't-think-of-a-decent-name Karate-do" (which he created himself in a non-mcdojo way), and belongs to a certain major association. Bill holds a 2nd dan - which was awarded to him by John after years of training. Unfortunately, there is an incident within the club, and Bill decides to seperate from John. All of the students and parents ally with Bill, leaving John with little or no students. Bill tries to start up a new club, but he cannot join the same association as John was in, because he is not a 3rd dan. John, obviously, will not award Bill with his 3rd dan because of their fall out. So what can Bill do? Well, he could create his own offshoot style based on "I-can't-think-of-a-decent-name Karate-do", title himself a 'Master', and award himself an 8th dan. I'm sure Bill has more respect for himself and his art than to do that. Alternatively, he could go to an instructor in, say, Shotokan, and explain the situation, and ask for a third dan in Shotokan (even if he doesn't know anything about Shotokan). I doubt he would do that (but it does happen) Finally, Bill could apply for membership in a Mixed Martial Art Association -they usually don't have any requirements of rank because of the diversity of their instructors. His students become licensed with this association and everyone is happy. Problem sovled Now onto the problems (not many cos I'm so tired): Bill is happy in his new club........but due to some other issue he decides to ask advice about Karate from the Head of the Association. Problem - the Head of the Association is a 7th Dan in Freestyle Kickboxing, and holds no rank in karate. Bill decides to attend a friendly competition within the association. The association contains practitioners of Jiu-jutsu, freestyle kickboxing, sport karate and other MAs. Bill's form of karate bases itself of street-fighting techniques, but enjoys full-contact UFC style combat. Bill asks the Head for a catagory of UFC style combat, but due to a lack of interest, it is denied. (^Ok, not a fantastic point, but like I said I'm tired) Now, as I mentioned before, Bill's form of karate bases itself on effective street combat. Now, Fred belongs to the same association, but his MA is freestyle sport karate. These two get talking, Fred starts insulting Bill's art, and friction develops. Inter-association conflict - not good, not good at all. To conclude........ Mixed Martial Art Associations are good for people who want to work with a lot of different arts, and respect all of them. They are also beneficial to instructors who teach concept and not-so-famous styles. However, there may be a lot of politics. Single Martial Arts associations are very good - but many are a case of who-you-know when it comes to joining national squads etc. Some people may not be accepted because of their rank, or any problems they may have had in the past. Right - I'm shattered. Hope the insane babble helpful to some. Cya

Well you learn something new everyday Did you belong to many associations with this club - its just that.... seems a bit blinkered. Once again, no offence meant - I just wanna know

Kensai Didn't realise you did Shotokan. How long did you do it and when/why did you stop? You been in many associations?
