  1. I know who bagpuss is...think.....purple belt, Redhall, Coach, likes spinning the bo around his head. Easy Cya
  2. Hey More compliments for me...I'm just glad that my students like me Just keep trying Ang...You'll get there one day Keep on truckin' C ya
  3. Kubotan - a small weapon made of plastic or metal. Used as a keyring. Hope this answers your question Kicker C ya
  4. Angie I was refereeing (sp?) that match and I saw exactly what happened. You announced Heian Shodan, but when it came to the Otoshi Tessui Uchi (over-the-top strike), well, u forgot to do it. The reason you totally messed up is because you decided to stop there and give up, which automatically got you disqualified. If ud have continued you would have scored OK. I was in the same mind as you about 1 year ago. I was in the kata catagory, and I performed Bassai-dai to the best of my ability (my mum recorded it so I know how I looked). I didn't get anywhere. The judges prefered the shorter snappier styles of kata, compared to my deep, powerful Shotokan kata. I vowed never to enter competitions again. Last week I overcame this thought and entered in the weapons kata. I won I've also seen many people ****-up at national competition, so it happens to everyone. So to conclude....You'll always have hicups during your karate training. I just say keep trying and you'll get there. Oh yeah - get Carey to teach you and your brother how to walk on properly. Thats another thing that let you down. It just makes me so mad C ya
  5. Yeah, i have to agree with Ken - its only a sparring match, not a death fight!! C ya
  6. Hey GoldDragon Sure, as long as you get me a pair of metal kama and a pair of telescopic nunchaku at the same time.
  7. "Kon" is another word for staff, so "San-setsu-kon" literally means 3-jointed-staff. The idea behind the 3 section staff was that if one of the parts was cut off, the other section could be used as a normal nunchaku I dont know much about the chinese version, but I do know about the japanese and okinawan type. I've seen both the chinese and japanese versions used, and nowadays they both look the same (well, the ones I saw were ) C ya
  8. You'll find that usually happens in competitions. Some referees are quite strange, and thats the reason I dont referee yet (I only arbitrate ) Just try not to take it so personally - it happens C ya
  9. Hi I believe the 3 section staff is called the San-Setsu-Kon. I could be wrong though. C ya
  10. I have to agree with Taezee, I need to see it to believe it. Just like Chi energy c ya
  11. The way I see it is that boxers are made to take blows. Not like me. C ya
  12. Muay Thai is a complete martial art, not just a sport. There is a life of Muay Thai outside the ring. C ya
  13. HI all I chose Karate because I wanted to do something traditional, and not focus on the fighting aspects. When I decide that I want to become a fighter, I'll start doing kickboxing (or even better, Muay Thai). However, I dont wanna be a fighter, so I guess the time may never come. C ya
  14. Hi all Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Nakayama and Funakoshi have some friction, because Nakayama wanted to create competitions, which were against the ideas of Funakoshi. C ya
  15. Hi all I think the reason Karateka emailed me is because I was the only staff member left on the site. Even though I couldn't do anything, it was nice that you emailed me C ya Tobias
  16. I would like to congratulate the following in acheived their 10th Kyu in Okinawan Kobudo on Saturday: Darryl (Goose) Steven (WinterKarate) Adrian (??) Angela (angiewinter) There were also several other people who passed, but they are not on the forum. Also I would like to congratulate my father (he aint on the forum) for passing his 1st Kyu grading. Oh yeah, and I acheived my 7th Kyu in Okinawan Kobudo and my 2nd dan in Shotokan Karate. Guess I'm one step closer. C ya Tobias
  17. Ah yes, 24fightingchickens. Rob Readman certainly has some interesting theories.
  18. Hi Daz, welcome to the forum. Unsu is a superb kata, but only when its performed well. If performed badly, it looks crap (just like Kanku-Sho). Its the jump, you see. C ya
  19. Yup, but I just hate Kanku-DAi so much Well, no really, but it aint my favourite kata. C ya
  20. Thats the thing, TBKen If someone has a knife, they put all their offence into using the knife, they don't think about using the rest of the body as well. I try to teach that with my weapons classes, we practice kicking whilst using the nunchaku etc. C ya
  21. Have to agree with KickChick and Iamrushman - it can't be taken as a martial art, as some people believe it can. Its a way of getting fit - that's all.
  22. Apparantly, the Heians (Pinans) were developed from Kanku-Dai (Kusanku)
  23. Crosstraining is fine, but the way I see it is that you could practice two martial arts that are totally different to each other eg. Jiu-jitsu and karate. If you mix two very similar styles it will only lead to confusion. C ya
  24. Interesting Fumio Demura says that Shushi-no-kon was created by a man called Chinen. Thats what it says in his book. Oh well...a conflict. C ya
  25. Point fighting is ok, as long as it is just done as a sport. It is useful to build up speed and co-ordination, but in most cases it aint like a real fight (just ask TBKen). It can be fun, but some ppl take it too seriously. Its about healthy competition guys! C ya
