  1. I see. But I have been stabbed before, and I have been clubbed over the head before and generally speaking. The club over the head is less painful to me than a blade in the arm.
  2. Chatan Yara no sai uses only one sai, and incorporates a gedan shuto waza at the beginning of the kata. At least thats how the traditional Chatan Yara no Sai is done. Maybe the above one is not traditional, but I cannot judge because I have never heard of Chatan Yara no Sai Sho...
  3. Hmmm, everything stays put in my gi. Maybe its because I am use to it. I dont remember the first few times I hid stuff within my gi, but I know now that its very perfect for me. The belt acts as a stopped so nothing falls through it. And it shouldn't move around. Although I did get a comment at a tournament when I pulled a pair of tekko out of my gi. The judge judging me came up to me after the tournament, and said that he gave me an extra 2 points just for keeping it within my gi until I started my form Maezato no Tekko.
  4. I concur with ninjanurse. Especially with the Korean mind frame (I am korean). Korean people they like to give, but they also have in their mind what they plan on receiving, not necessarily with politics, but this might be a way of ensuring that if he were to come to the USA that Obama would be at his side for the full duration giving him the "tour" of America.
  5. Jigaro Kano Sensei Never attended this art to be a rough art. He wanted it to be art of gentleness. BUT...this is not the way in this modern society of martial arts has taken a new toll of "traditional" There is classical and traditional martial arts. But. Who are we to differ between the two. I am a shodan in Judo not extremely of high skill, but average skill. If you take those measures than you have nothing to fear continue on with it. A warrior should know when his weaknesses interfere and then he or she works on those weaknesses to gain success
  6. it seems like what traymond is asking is what our opinion on Kobudo is...he is not looking for a explanation of the base of Kobudo. I think he wants to know what you think of it on a spiritual or regular base. Like do we think its practical to learn etc etc.
  7. "Knife to death than bashed in the skull." This is a dumbfounded statement. As one is getting stabbed to death, the pain and trauma is far more severe and/or longer lasting than one hit to the skull to end it. And you would know that being bashed in the skull would induce instantaneous death how? Medically speaking and depending on where you get knifed, the nerves could have different reactions. You can feel numb, you can feel excruciating pain...but although to your statements, if I got a stiletto blade straight through my skull I would be instantly dead...
  8. What kind of gi do you have? A pullover?
  9. Political...Hmmm. I doubt the Kukkiwon really cares about being politically correct to the President of the Unites states. They did it as a gesture of kindess and to honor him being in their country. I still thing he should have said "I dont deserve this"....because he did not. I am a fan of Obama as a president...but not as a martial artist.
  10. But it is a matter of warrior class. You just have to learn to be careful and not worry about how stupid you look if you do not do something at full force. Licking ones wounds is a matter to do off of the tatami. Not on the tatami. If you take preventative measures it will not happen again. learn from this and put this on the side of your weaknesses and learn what not to do next time.
  11. yes it can be alot more deadlier than a knife if someone does know how to use it. I much rather get knifed to death than to have my skull bashed out and have my brains oozing out of my ears...Sorry for the graphic nature of this post. But, just think about it...YUCK!!!... I would feel most comfortable if my friend did not carry anything and that he or she felt comfortable about being around me as their protection.
  12. Judo is an art of the warrior class. Do you think that a member of the warrior class would just quit if they had this happen to them. i dont think so, and I wouldnt quit either. if its something you love you cannot deny it.
  13. Thanks again everyone Osu
  14. I try to emulate Tohyama Sensei but I come up extremely short. I put them as my lifelong goal, but yet it will always be that far away because we can never be identical. To even think that we can is a waste of time.
  15. Yes I would. i have never had anything like this happen to me before, but while I was teaching Uechi Ryu, I did an Chugari Ukemi, and I hit a stone slab and broke three of my toes. This stopped all my grappling arts. It took three weeks for them to 'fix' and I went back to all of my martial arts.
  16. I agree also, but does that make it traditional still. Thats the aspect im really asking. What do you think of their form if they tweak a traditional form?...Is it still traditional?
  17. Skill is within the heart and mind, not within the eye-Pan Qing Fu
  18. Its not bad or wrong. There is no possible way we can be like them. We can emulate them and try to achieve a small amount of likeliness to their forms and style but we will never become them. Take Toyama Seiko Sensei's Sanseryu, it is unnique to only him and no one else can emulate them. Take Ryuko Tomoyose's Seisan, very light and audible, but no one else can do it like him. Gushi Sensei's Sanchin and Seisan, not even his top student Makoto Fukumoto can emulate him fully.
  19. Of course!! It makes a nice pocket area for the gi. I love hiding hashi, tekko, nunchaku, tanto, jiwa, and shuriken in my gi...
  20. IMHO, this is a valid grievance to not succeed, thus lacking an attempt to further study something or somewhere else. I agree with Richard. The time in is about loyalty to your club. and your dedication to its members. Karate should last you your whole life. So whats to rush to shodan?
  21. He did. He was the final active student of Uechi Kanbun.
  22. If this is truly the case...would any of us be teachers???..haha
  23. Bat breaking is for nidan and up. If they cannot do it then they will not get any where past shodan. My standards for my martial arts is high and I leave it that way to weed out those that are not suitable for my style. I let them train for one month free before I accept payment to ensure that this is what they want. And if they do not like it I give them half their money back when ever they want to discontinue their training. Physics is needed in martial arts because the body itself is nothing but physics as well.
  24. was it?...I wasn't sure sorry haha.
