  1. But with proper training they can choose to be as best as they can. And this is the goal that I try to set forth to my students, to atleast attempt to achieve a status of conditioning that you can take the strike, that you can break the bat with your fore arm or shin. It wont happen unless they work at it. I for one dont want to be a fifth dan (My next rank) and not able to do what I have to do to achieve that status. I dont want to be the fourth dan that I am now and get into a fight and lose it because I was not conditioned enough...not that fighting is the correct thing either. But at times you have to deal with it, and hope your as conditioned as you need to be.
  2. A very good statement. But for some techniques one can only uncover "gokuhi" when they stand in a teachers shoes. So for the Sepai Kata I prefer my students that when they learn the movements, go and help the next person learn the movements so that they can try and understand the oyo bunkai better.
  3. I halfheartedly agree with you. So I almost there. For a girl her size I would teach kicks to keep space...if someone gets in close and can keep a hold on her, its over. She should have kept her distance as much as possible, especially with her technique. It is far from being able to be associated with the term "Ichigeki Hissatsu"
  4. Many people become dansha when they shouldn't. I wish to avoid this mistake. I dont want my dansha going out and starting a fight and losing it by getting a shot to a weak spot that could be strengthened
  5. I agree also. So maybe I should ask what would you think of The interpreters interpretation?
  6. Gotta love the internet. Although i wish I could train with people such as Tohyama Seiko Sensei, before he passed. i
  7. English is the hardest...slang and words such as , they, their, and there...to much for me to focus on haha.
  8. Yes I do sense that as well. and its hard to find out the truth.
  9. Indeed. I am korean, but I speak japanese and have chiense friends...its very similar...
  10. Indeed, phonetically speaking Asian lanuages have differences, but are very close. Now this is not to state that each can communicate. The roots of languages intwine although there arte branches. Just like with the martial arts.
  11. Well actually Richard chinese for three actually sounds like "Sahm" Instead of "Sahn". Sanchin, Seirui, and Sanseiryu are all from Pan gai nun, Shinyu Gushi Sensei is the leader of the main Pan Gai Nun sect in the Unites states. I actually learned my jiwa kata through him. (Gushi no Jiwa). Teruo Hayashi learned his White crane form from Go genki, and he revised it to make his own form. "Hayashi Hakkaku" which is the main style I use for crane, instead of Hohaku Or Haku Tsuru which Matayoshi Sensei also learned from Go Genki but kept it within the whole form he learned it in. It is safe to say most kobudo kata with "Kun" in it referring to the Bo came from china since the okinawa term Kun means rules, and chinese kun means stick. Typically Pronounced as "goon" tho.
  12. Exactly! Or so I am led to believe, I am sure there are people who beg to differ with my Point of philosophy, but it is all welcomes in my opinion.
  13. They were translated by Gary gagliardi, Garry Howard Sensei, Seagal Sensei, Stanley pranin, and Kisshomaru Ueshiba. And all came up with very close translations. This was an excerpt from the book "The art of peace"
  14. If you do not have a physical requirement for Kuro Obi, any dan ranking, I think that its safe to say that the condition of the martial artist will be weak. How many people with a weak core do you know, that can survive a full force punch to the stomach? I know of none. So for my students I want them to survive the fight. And for it being a bizarre requirement?...A push up is a very common thing that can be done daily without much mental pain...I would have to fight with myself a slight bit to put tacks in my mouth and doing my pushups...that would make it bizarre.
  15. I think it should. It shows how much force one can execute and shows how conditioned ones self truly is. At least thats what I was taught to look for in tamechiwari and machiwara demonstration during our testing. She favors the elbow smash, good. But she should be trying to focus on something more practical like her kicks so if she does not make contact she can at least add distance. For an elbow technique you have to be pretty close.
  16. Can you imagine how embarrassing that must be for her to go to a tournament and wonder why she did not place?...I am impressed with her ability to break, I did not see that in her. But She did have a nice elbow break and she favors it...BAD self defense technique though.
  17. How so?...Do you mean like mentally disabled...?...Then there is an exception...Limbless person, exception...perfect health?...No exception. Woah how I have observed and/or know about many who get their grade and cannot perform not more than 3-5 pushups. And I think that is a shame, how would the various Bushi feel if they were alive right now?
  18. Does this kata look a little too rigid to be kobudo?...Kobudo is suppose to have that flow, this Kata just seems to be robotic...
  19. He is using Nicho Zai...thats not right...And it is wayyy different. And he is wearing Kaku Obi, no?
  20. I think I can deal with bo bo for a few classes. Haha, but I can see that getting old quick too...
  21. Uechi Ryu and Goju Ryu use alot of locking techniques. And Katas such as Sanchin and Sanseyrui and Seiyunchin have no kicks in them at all.
  22. Doesn't sound like a confliction to me...How else do you properly learn self defense, if you dont spar?.... But on that note...just dont think of sparring as a game either.
  23. The part where he speaks of real techniques Sticks out to me. What do you think he meant by that?
  24. I completely agree with you now. Its just that some are not the leadership types. I have ALOT of good students that simply dont want to teach. And I respect that, but if you want to be a sandan under me they will...haha
