  1. Hi there Joecooke007! Check out these thread in these diff forums regarding techniques to achieve kicking height. In TKD Forum (Tips on getting those high kicks) and Health & Fitness (Flexibility Determination. Many answers to questions lie in different forums. Suggest you take the time to read through before posting.
  2. Our student creed is: "To build ourselves physically & mentally." "To keep friendship with one another and to be a strong group" "To never fight to achieve selfish ends to develop might for right!" We are also NAPMA associated.
  3. We also use focus pads in our training together with the heavy bags. Advantage of focus pads is you can move in or out with your techniques as your partner holds the pad. You can gauge your distance moving in with yur kicks and punches. Its much hrder to hit a moving target! But as SaiFights added you need to have a partner.
  4. 5. Welcome to KarateForums jimmyprince ! Yes, take a look at the threads in the Healt & Fitness" forum... there are few of you guys asking the same questions and there's alot of really good answers there for you! I do suggest you start a workout routine prior...work on your cardio endurance...(you're gonna need it!) Martial arts does get you in shape ... but you're going to have to meet it half way by starting to do some things on your own before "jumping" into martial arts! Good Luck... you can do it if you set your mind to it...and thats where it begins... once you have your mindset....nothing can stop you! _________________ Tae Kwon Do Blk Belt 1st deg./Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2001-11-24 08:02 ]
  6. Redness will develop if striking with the instep. I also have been kicking with ball of foot (toes pulled back) for help on breaking technique wit the roundhouse. If you're conditioning for thai kicking then go for the shins....excellant way to condition for that particular roundhouse execution!
  7. There is only one IAMRUSHMAN
  8. ...cos' theyd probably hang up on him...as I would if a total stranger called me up and asked me those questions! .... just a part-timer here Muay, sorry I can't help you!
  9. The primary difference between ITF and WTF (from looking at the two) is that ITF uses a `stepping' movement for all hand techniques...this 'stepping motion' that the ITF utilizes is referred to by ITF practioners as a 'knee spring' or "up/down motion". It causes the body to move in a "sine wave" resulting in the whole body being involved at the moment of impact, blocking or attacking. This technique is used for both hand-techniques in ITF and kicking techniques as well. ...So actually the difference is a little more than "only a High Punch, or a Inner Forearm Block. 16. :::ahem::: (clearing throat)..... ~~~~~Happy Birthday to you!!!...Patrick & KarateForums~~~~!!! .... 17 Birthday Kicks from all of us!!!
  17. OK...just this morning Nov.21 another case of inhalation anthrax confirmed here in a small town in Connecticut (NEXT TOWN OVER FROM ME!) The victim? A 94 yr. old woman who only left her house to go to the hairdressers and grocery shop and that was it! Looks like I'm gonna go hungry for a while and have alot of bad hair days ahead of me! Really this is quite puzzling ... and now getting too close to home. Hey taezee...you started this thread....what do you think?... is this all isolated??? Is the media wrong? ... Are we in a panic unnecessarily? _________________ Tae Kwon Do Blk Belt 1st deg./Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2001-11-21 04:29 ]
  18. hmmmm....I take it youre a 'jumper' .... and I just love the mac & cheese there too ...
  19. I just read something interesting along the loines of this particular thread..... Love this quote!!!! "The outcome of the battle between the alligator and the bear depends upon the terrain." Down-home Mississippi wisdom "The first few Ultimate Fighting Championships were great examples of this principle. The early matches were billed as "anything goes"; kung fu versus ninjutsu, sumo versus kickboxing, Brazilian jujitsu versus muay thai. And there were sterling examples of little guys triumphing over big guys: sumo wrestler Teila Tuli, all 410 pounds of him, felled by some well-placed kicks by savateur Gerard Gordeau, half his opponent's size, in UFC I. Or 180 lb Royce Gracie choking out 275 pound Dan Severn in UFC IV. In each case the smaller guy used techniques his opponent couldn't counter. By training hard and using the principles outlined above, you can and will prevail. Use your head; don't let your opponent use his or her strengths against you. Fight your own fight!"
  20. Hey I'm only a Black Belt and from what I been hearing.... that isn't saying much but... I take youre little saying to heart "Do unto others, as they done to you." ...
  21. Hey I kinda like that analogy ... but, you're getting me very hungry [CT]pizzaboy !! When you see TKD performed by someone who can really truly jump with those kicks...WOW...its like... mashed potatoes with the gravy!!!!!
  22. Welcome (better late than never) [CT]pizzaboy ....and I thought you were from CT (connecticut). Do I have a personal favorite recipe of mine that I should share with YOU!...Mashed Potato Pizza! ...YUMMY!!!
  23. ah....'light' beer ...better than 'NO' beer ... ... yes, it's quite true that working on the ab section (tightening up those abs and obliques too)... stabilizes your core muscles and does in turn relieve back problems.
  24. TKD_McGee ... I think we kinda touched base with this question in the Health & Fitness forum under the thread Flexibility Determination. Read through again. If anyone does have MORE secrets to share go ahead and post ... but the real secret is to keep stretching... and maybe you just aren't physically pelvically proprtioned to achieve that dynamic crazy kick and stretches. Yes, I have seen that guy staddled between 2 metal folding chairs that claim to be in his 60's that can stretch like that cold. hmm..... do we believe everything we see and read?
  25. Slim....I understand exactly what you are saying! During a spar the adrenaline is pumping...and I often wake up the next day covered with bruises and feeling pain that I had not experienced during the course of the matches. Once I even broke my toe but didn't realize I did until the next day when the pain set in! So I guess the adrenaline can supress a certain amount of pain but.... pain of muscle stress is ineveitable in the end especially if you fail to stretch adequately before a class. _________________ Tae Kwon Do Blk Belt 1st deg./Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2001-11-19 13:57 ]
