Shadow Warrior http://babtech.com/shadwar.html is a three dimensional game with decent graphics designed by 3D Realms. There are plenty of monsters and different types of weapons and aids to help you through each map or level. Like the id software type and Duke Nukem games you can play with another player via your modems. Also, you can play multiplayers through a serial connection.

Thanks Cory. The ITA expresses my thoughts further on this matter and I will quote if I may... "It (TKD) was created by nonviolent men to discourage violence. It does give power. A power of self-defense far more frightening than the mere shattering of boards. But it never once suggests an offensive use of this power. It does bring physical well being, for there is no discipline of man which trims, shapes or conditions the body as well. It does bring a fluidity to motion, a grace to movement, and physical harmony. And it does more. It brings self-strength, self-knowledge, self-confidence, and self-control. It reaches toward the development of a total being capable of meeting any challenge with calm and success. It brings one to himself. It is a "way" of life."

Preparing for Tournament
KickChick replied to KickChick's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
...thanks 360! ... I'll have to check that "version" of Kwang-gae out ... thanks for advice jak ! ...that was going to be my approach exactly! -
Very good advice taezee! Like he said... break it down .... do the first couple of moves over and over again .... take the next 4 and so on. At our school when we have a big class night ... the advanced belts help the newer students with their form. Also, if willing, videotape your instructor of another student doing that form in class in your accustomed surroundings. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I was a beginner, diagrams in books and videos just confused me. I videotaped at test time when all the belts did form and I had them all on video!

Thing is most people think that way ...(believe it or not!) But routines do not have to be tedious. ..... crosstrain by mixing things up a bit in your "routine" (i actually hate that term cos it sounds like the same old --same old thing) ...it needn't be! Your body becomes accustomed to your level of working out whether it be everyday, every other, every morning or every night, and skipping weekends. The longer you stick with a particular workout program that you do all the time, the more efficient your body becomes at doing it. You end up using less energy and burning fewer calories, and you won't get optimal results. Research shows muscles can adapt in as few as four to five workouts. At least you don't pop a pill and then strap on one of those ab belts and sit and watch the telly ... now that tickles alot of peoples fancy these days!! _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-18 04:16 ]

Welcom eelliot17 to KarateForums and wish you well in your TKD training! ...whether it be ITF or WTF. (would you believe there are students enrolled in our school that aren't even aware of the 2! ... isn't a matter of importance to certain people. Nice choice of the Serenity Prayer! ... I guess you can say highly effective people do pray! _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-17 09:40 ]

Preparing for Tournament
KickChick replied to KickChick's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Not really a secret ..... I grew up performing in front of audiences. I studied ballet at an early age and well on into high school.... the exp. helped me tremendously with entering MA. I'm ok with it as long as I know I'm on track. If I'm not confident with my techniques then I get nervous of course! .... I also took 4 years of college (Communications) which made me very comfortable with being/talking in front of large numbers of people. I do tend to laugh or smile too much when nervous! -

Thanks Cory....Actually I really don't mind an audience.... I kinda enjoy performing, I thrive on it actually. I have been watching clip after clip of my form and hope to make it as dramatic as possible .... and painting the toes red, white and blue will add to the drama possibly March23rd ...wish me luck! -
I don't understand If you have chin to chest. I assume your fists are to each side of your chin in a guarding position so .... can't you just slide either fist up to protect the head or duck the punch while blocking. Why take a blow to the head ... forehead, temple, nose, whatever?? Posting in 'bold' is in F.A.Q. in toolbar ....... _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-15 08:58 ] [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-15 08:59 ]

Nope it isn't! Ballistic stretching uses the momentum of a moving body of limb to force it beyond its normal range of motion. Although closely related to dynamic stretching, ballistic stretching incorporates bouncing or jerky movements, using the momentum of the limb to spring back to the starting position ... like bouncing down repeatedly to touch toes. This type of stretch is not recommended because repeated activation of the stretch reflex causes muscles to tighten which can lead to injury. Now dynamic stretching consists of controlled movement of the limbs, gradually increasing reach, speed of movement, or both. In dynamic stretching there is no bouncing or jerky movements. It uses slow, controlled leg swings, arm swings, torso twists, etc. Dynamic stretching can be performed prior to a workout in order to stretch those muscles which are to be used during the exercise session ... like Up Back and Overs, Jack and Jills, etc. Stretching should always be preceded by a warm-up.

Need sparring tips!!!
KickChick replied to Kickbutt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
OK....here's a good one for you guys! Someone remarked to me the other day that I tend to laugh alot when I spar. Now I know why .... but I think it enrages some of my opponents because I think they think I am laughing at them! And then some get caught off guard by it and do tend to get flustered by it. I'm not ...I tend to laugh when I am nervous and I think it may be a type of feinting technique that I use to throw my opponent off as to say... "I'm having fun here....I'm not out to do you no wrong!" .... How do I stop???? Should I? (I believe it really is a way I deal with nervous energy) ...this may not be too cool for tournament sparring . _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-14 07:37 ] -

Who says??? I disagree with you "AO"! Developing strong abs also helps you perform better as a martial artist. It improves pelvic rotations, which is important for improving your balance and helping you to achieve more powerful punches and kicks..... just as much as those leg and hip muscles. Ad was asking a question specifically about ab work and the proper way to do them and I will attempt to offer some suggestions. Crunches can't do it all. Think about it: You wouldn't limit yourself to doing just lunges for your legs or just push-ups for your arms, right? You need to mix in other moves. You need to do exercises that work all the muscles in your abs (the rectus abdominis and obliques) from different angles. There are three so-called "planes of motion." When you bend forward, you work the sagittal plane. Bend to the side and you target the frontal plane. Twist your torso and you hit the transverse plane. A basic crunch only works your muscles through one plane of motion — sagittal — which is why you can do them forever and only see a third of the results. Of course, don't give up on crunches. Incorporate moves that hit the other two angles of your abs. This is one crunch exercise I do with my class that incorporates a little pilates because breathing and tightening those abs really works the muscles! Feet up, ankles crossed....hands behind head at base of neck pressed lightly. Elbows out parallel to shoulders. Be sure not to grab at your neck when crunching, let the abs lift you up. Take a deep breath. Crunch up slowly to center...twist to the right (exhale) bringing right elbow to floor keeping left back parallel to turned shoulders. Come back to center taking deep breath.....twist to left (exhale) , left elbow to floor this time. Come back to center...taking deep breath and pulse up the crunch a bit higher....the exhale coming back down. You need to vary your moves every few weeks. The longer you stick with an exercise, he more efficient your body becomes at doing it. You end up using less energy and won't get optimal results. Research shows muscles can adapt in as few as four to five workouts. Just tweak your moves. For example, instead of placing your hands by your ears when you do crunches, try extending your arms in front of you. Or do oblique twists on an incline bench rather than the floor. Exercising while holding a weighted ball or dumbbell is another way to switch things around. Use enough weight so that you can't do more than 15 to 20 reps at a time (doing several sets is fine). Studies show that people who do more than this amount don't use enough resistance to tone their muscles effectively . Crunches develop those core muscles. Focus on always keeping your abdominals tight. Not only do conditioned abs help support the torso, particular the lower back, but they also tighten and flatten the stomach.

Religion in Martial Arts
KickChick replied to AnonymousOne's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I was just replying to AnonymousOne ... and his quote "Where did the Universe come from? Easternism never answers that " ... well, many religions (including Eastern) have attempted along with sciences to answer that question. God (whoever it may be to you)created the "universe".... but this is what I believe _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-13 09:51 ] -
Preparing for Tournament
KickChick replied to KickChick's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
ZR440!! too funny! ... yeah I hear ya! I am in good physical shape but mentally I'm scared to death! I doubt I will be entering the sparring comp (still waiting on age ranking on that and have a slight fracture of foot after last nights spar)but will do forms and possibly breaking. I know how to prepare for breaking.... but I have done my form for so long it lacks umpf! I need to, I guess work on snaps, breathing with each technique (you know making that sound)... and getting a rhythm going. Stomping with the blocks and so forth. I have an awesome high front kick that comes at end of form that I am sure will wow the judges. I guess I DO know what to do. But should I bother watching different videos of how my form is done to get different perspectives. Does anyone have any web sites that offer say RealPlayer or WindowMedia mpegs or .mov's on Kwang Gae? _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-02-12 14:52 ] -

TKD's very little blocking
KickChick replied to mastertae's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'd like to also point out that although blocking in TKD (which there is ) although primarily used defensively is at times very effective offesively too! My foot is throbbing from an elbow block to the top of my foot while I was executing a front push kick in sparring!
