  1. Guy goes up to a karate or TKD practicioner. "Can you teach me Kung Fu" Guy wears black belt. "Where did you learn your martial arts from" "Enter the dragon" "Look at those chop suey people" "Those guys would never make it in a real fight" "My style is better than yours" "I've mastered martial arts"
  2. In my schools, we just do alot of AB works, like striking the abs, with the tip of the bo staffs and punching and kicking the abs, because the abdominals are considered your core in my arts, so we do alot of ab work. If you can take the hit, you can continue to go, and even with forms, if your core is strong, your body is along with it.
  3. 7 years for me to reach mine in brasshand, but you also have to know over twenty kata, before your able to reach Shodan. Most styles will get it to you in 2-4 years, which is great, but shodan is just merely the landing at a flight of steps, once your there, you have to start the next flight. Haha.
  4. haha welcome to the yudanshakai. I still firmly believe that all black belts are related in some way, more spiritually then anything. So welcome. And congratulations
  5. Awesome way to go. I continue to think it is funny how some of the belts range in color. Like you went from blue to green, when blue is usually darker then green, and like in KIA Kajukenpo, the first rank is orange and the second is yellow. I thought that most of the ranks were suppose to get darker as your progress, haha.
  6. Hmm think of it this way. If you wait longer, you will be better prepared, if you believe you are ready now, just wait till how you will feel in the months to come and your experience will grow. Then you will for sure pass. The timing between the belts, shows what respect and loyalty and dedication you have for your art.
  7. Yeuh, hes not planning to go back for a while though. But perhaps I can bug him into selling me some of his older ones haha.
  8. it was an "ok" movie. I though kung phoooey was alot funnier actually. "NO MSG"!
  9. he goes to okinawa and gets them for when he has to test....
  10. For just the definition. I dont care about how strong I am, I want to look good. Haha.
  11. Hmmm I just found out another name for it. Its a JIWA....but I still cannot find it. I can find the pics of it. but I cannot find a place to sell it....its stressful...haha
  12. https://www.kobudoweapons.com They have pics of the two pointed or two rounded styles.
  13. Hmmm...that...makes sense. I know who to PM now when I need to know something...
  14. Alrighty, sounds good. So where do you get all your knowledge from?...hehe
  15. So would you say its more beneficial to swim for an hour than to do cardio for an hour and lift minor weights for an hour?
  16. Haha....whuh...just thinking of swallowing the water...SICK! But at the gym I go to, I swear that they have chlorine in the shower heads....im so dry after I get out of the shower...no knuckles or elbows are safe afterwards...
  17. I would say like start a club with the other people int he group, and just go over everything that you all know and learn the most you can from one another. I would mostly look at it without the sparring unless their is someone in their Dan ranks that are able to observe, just in case. Because if your at each others houses doing this, and someone gets hurt, the person is under liabilty. So I would say find an open public place, like maybe the local Y for a day or two a week, or maybe you can use the park early in the morning. But I would stick with everything but the sparring.
  18. Hmmm so. Now the only thing i have to overcome...is the thought of swimming next to someone who pees in the pool...haha. Thanks alot for your help once again. And I will definately check out crossfit for this stuff before I ask again, haha. Take care.
  19. Ahhhh i see. So is it true that a diet high in starch is good for the definition of abdominal muscles while doing swimming?
  20. Is it truly good for ab work?
  21. In alot of schools that I have been apart of, the requirements differ, but they never turn down a black belt because of their age. My requirements in my schools are. Know all 25 main forms. You must be able to break atleast two bricks, and four, one inch boards. And atleast ten lbs of ice compacted in a block. You must know all 10 basic weapon forms You must be able to defend against all lower belts, that are present that day, (which is not much do to the fact that my classes are less than 20 people now) And finally you must know all commands in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean as well. I dont stress to much on the korean or chinese since the most influence are in the japanese arts.
  22. So im in Matayoshi Kobudo, and the Sensei requires us to buy weapons after a while, which is fine with me. But does anybody kno where I can buy a three pointed Chisai Kun? I can only find two pointed Chisai Kun.
  23. That is about the most used theory by others I asked, and it does sound right. I mean with all wars, the invading countries usually leave something behind them to leave their mark. I find it extremely interesting how martial arts evolve but yet they still keep a sense of tradition in them. Even some of the newer modern martial arts still keep the traditions of past Sensei.
  24. Well what kind of wall are we talking about?. Concrete Basement wall? Plaster wall...what kind?. It all depends on the wall. If its concrete than you wont have much problems with it at all. Especially if you use something thats shock absorbing like a serta sleep mattress, but you will still get the cartiledge built up in your wrist along with nice calcium deposits.
  25. Ahhh I see. This thread helped me out alot. Thanks to all.
