This past thursday episode he did one on the crusaders and how they handled being under seige. Pretty interesting, part of history you never really learn bout. -

Still havent caught this. I would recommend that one I mentioned a bit ago though. Its on history channel at 10pm est called Warriors. The host actually tries to learn bout the warriors of the past and there practices. He did one on vikings with actual viking historians and samurai with the same. It's a pretty good series. -
Isshinryu and part of the IWKA

cute but at the same time a little deranged

Just remembered another one, I think it was called the master or something. Modern day ninja. I believe it had Sho Kushigi (sp?) in it as well.

Yeah, i'd have to agree on that also bushido. You deal with different cultures, different time spans. Reasonings for the types of weapons used and so on. As much as it would be interesting to see too many variables in place. -
not sure what was funnier. Reading the posts underneath or the anticipation of the goombas

What traditional weapon is the most effective now a days?
BDPulver replied to Espina's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Depending on the situation. I always carry a pocket knife on me but lately I'll sometimes put in tow a cane. whats great bout a cane is they can almost be used in public indescreetly for say walking purpose. The hook end if you use that type can be used to block and quick put a intruder into a arm bar. Or you can quick hook behind there leg and use as a take down and slide the cane back up and use the walking end as a strike. When I injured my back I had to use one to help me walk around and after awhile I found some more really good practical self defense moves with it especially since I had the surgery done a few yrs back. -

Thats different from what I watch on history channel I think. I watch Warrior by terry shepard. Last night he did samurai and ninja. -
my favorite one which was recommended to me by my sensei's wife is "zen in the martial arts" by Joe Hyams Not a big book, one i got can fit in your back pocket.

finally saw it and I will admit it was good. I saw Gene Lebelle had a role in it but never recognized him. -
Have to agree with you also Tallgeese. Firefly was my most favorite ( i finally got the whole series and movie on dvd ). Other 2 that I actually had to look up cause I couldnt remember em. Roar - had heath legder (sp?) in it. Dealt with celt's trying to drive out the romans. Covington Cross - I just love knights and this type of setting what can I say.

Train, look into places for dojo, fish, spend time with my daughter (since I dont see her a whole lot), not sure of anything else.

well a quick welcome. I'm a practicioner of Isshinryu of over 25yrs. Normally I use this kick to startle and gain distance on my opponent. Other then that, I only use a few kicks now. The general consesus of the front snap kick was a straight groin strike to penetrate "armor" of old. Since then its been modified and with how clothing is, its still effective that way. But like I said, since its a quick kick. Its easier to use to startle. And if done correctly can be used to make up distance on your opponent.

Easier if i place link for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okinawan_kobud%C5%8D This is how kobudo was explained to me many years ago.

Sony Says Men in Black III and Ghostbusters III in Dev.
BDPulver replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
hmmm.....could be interesting. I was going through some movies with my 8 yr old and she asked me bout the ghostbuster one. Now I have to find it so we can watch it for her first time. -
well I grew up on coffee. But I think it was when I was in the army when my taste for it changed. Opening a MRE and pouring the sugar, insta coffee and creamer in your mouth and downing it with a canteen of water changes your taste buds. I think thats why i use flavor creamers and havent tried the itilian one i dont think. I did pick up a new flavor yesterday called carribean cinnamon creme which isnt too bad by international delight

irish creme, caramel del lucha, hershey's chocolate and any new flavor creamer i find to put in my coffee

In between. I lived in Lexington when I first moved here. Now I live in Georgetown. If I get this new position within the cable company I might have to move to Richmond.

well most everyone summed it up so far. With us we are taught to breathe in our lower diaphram (sp?) or lower lungs more or less on setting into a stance before a technique. Just as we start to execute a technique we work on controlling the breathe (exhale) and tightening the muscles till we are set in the form. We also will practice this in meditation as well.
