Interesting, I still remember seeing it when it first came out. And I still have a crush on Alysso Milano

Yeah thats the biggest problem with the board. If not shown the correct way most think its a padded punching board and nothing more. The canvas one that I use will leave ones knuckles bleeding even doing it right. I use it in general to condition my hands and bottom of feet. I try and not hit too hard but sometimes I forget and start looking down and see I busted the skin.

You know your a martial artist when you care how much your uniform looks compared to your work clothes. -
What intrigues me is they say there is no sign of dwarfism but the original smallest horse had those signs from reading the article. Still fascinating none the less and cute as a bug according to my daughter.

Thats kinda funny but bothersome at the same time

A couple posts kinda sum'd it up. Each has its strengths and weakness but what your asking is why so many styles. Well for example gojo ryu, very hard very powerful mostly on its stances and techniques. Shorin ryu is almost subtle in that it could pass as a tai chi type ma. Nice and fluid. Wado ryu im not real familiar with. Isshinryu which has both aspects of shorin and gojo. These are primarly just examples though. I hope this helps a bit more.

I totally understand where your coming from. Me and a coworker got into this same arguement. He swears MMA is better cause he also learned it in the Army. I tried telling him I was in the army too but we never learned it when I joined. I've taken some classes on MMA just to learn what techniques they use to see if I could implement them in my style and self defense training. But I will admit to being close minded on some subjects but not alot. Other then that when I talk bout MA I tried to tread lightly on the subjects so I dont get into situations like yours.

I cant remember if I trained with him aka invited his school to our school. Your not to far from Hackettstown where my instructor holds classes. But pretty much isshinryu is comprised of goju and shorin ryu along with kobudo. As for interview?? I never had to do one to study. I was given 2 free lessons and been doing it ever since. So its really hard to say what one should truly ask without feeling pressured. I know if someone askes me bout my style I try to be as frank as possible and explain how we teach and what not.

now I havent had a chance to get one to test out myself but found the add in classical fighting arts and surpriseing there was a web addy http://www.dragon-tsunami.org/Products/Pages/Meijin_Pro.htm Not sure how well they would do with grappling though. I dont really grapple. We train to avoid that situation and if it happens to get out of the way as fast as possible. I hope this helps a bit.

besides the typical chest protector. I really cant think of one that was specially made for grappling. I'll keep my eyes open though.

to be honest. The hardest students I've ever taught where boxers. years of there footwork and postures is hard to break them of that. I've trained with other styles though, its really no different then going to your own style. It's more of a mindset really. My biggest problem on adapting was the kicks. We kick with the ball or side of the foot. Occassionally the heal. I've trained with some that use the top which to me signal'd a broken foot but thats how they where trained and since I'm a visitor I learned to voice my concerns to the head instructor.

I prefer short gi pants but I did stumble across something here. They where to me a bit pricey, I'll see if I cant find it again. And your not tall
