  1. Do the kiai loud, but make sure that it's done correctly so as to the muscle memory will be effective in a real situation.
  2. Congrats, KorroddyDude; well deserved!!

I appreciate what you're saying, aurik; means a lot to me. Thank you, sir!!
  4. My first tournament was way back in 1965 as a white belt. I lost. I remember that I lost so bad that I almost quit training right on the spot. My mom made me go back to the dojo because she paid for a full year.
  5. Well, in a real-life situation it's all about taking care of business, which means there's no time to meditate. Like Ed Parker said..."He who hesitates, meditates horizontally". Save the meditation for the dojo because there's less opportunity to get blindsided by a dojo-mate...unless you're in a Pink Panther Movie.
  6. Featuring Mr. Miyagi?? I wonder how they'd do that?? Hopefully not like it was done for Game of Death with inserting various pictures or scenes of Bruce Lee; that way was so, well, cheap.
  7. Up, out, back, down. No matter what kick, this is the method of which I've always executed said kick at said target. Why? Because of penetration, set-ups, protection, and effectiveness. No up, out, down because without the 'back' part of any said kick, said kick is sloppy and vulnerable.
  8. Congratulations to the Dodgers for winning the 2024 World Series!!
  9. As game 5 of the 2024 World Series at Yankee Stadium nears even closer and closer, something came to my mind when I read that Gerrit Cole is the starting pitcher for the Yankees. Cole had an outstanding game 1 by going six innings and giving up just one run on four hits. He threw 88 pitches and had 4 strikeouts in a big outing for the Yankees. Unfortunately, the Dodgers scored a run in the 8th inning to tie it, and then Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam to get the 6-3 win for the Dodgers. Cole, of course, has the potential of putting on a pitching clinic. Cole has the burden of making sure that there'll be a game 5 back in LA. Not going to be an easy task for not only Cole, but for the Yankee players and coaches as well. Cole seems to strive in the win-or-go-home games; Cole understands pressure. Win-or-stay-home are what the Yankees understand to and in this regard, that's why Cole will be on the mound tonight. But, there's always a 'but', Cole's 4 other must-win games. the Yankees lost. The Dodgers seems to grind the batters to no end, and Cole has thrown fewer than 90 pitches, and Cole's hitting the mound with only 4 days of rest. Flaherty will be on the mound for the Dodgers tonight. Cole can only do what he can do. The other Yankee players have to do their job and then some. Flaherty, 1-2, 6.10 ERA Cole, 1-0, 2.82 ERA GO YANKEES!!
  10. Those 2 days; I cherish the most!! I'd love for us to share the mat just one more time!!

You will, my friend!! The MA, for me, especially when it comes to Shindokan, have never been a hobby or a sport; I take my training very serious. It's my life; if I'm not training, I'm teaching and if I'm not teaching, I'm training. Will there be 70 years in the MA for me?? That's up to God!! If he grants me that, that means I'll be 77 years old. Sometimes that saddens me because my time on this earth is reaching an end, yes, I know we all die, but it still saddens me.
  13. I'm digging the Matlock too. Kathy Bates is a great actress; I love everything that she's ever done.
  14. I see that. So, it takes having the Yankees' backs against the wall and facing losing the WS. Not enough. My Yankees STILL have to face the 2024 Dodgers and win EVERY game. Tough mission...near impossible mission. I'm not saying that my Yankees don't have the talent to face mission impossible, because the Yankees have the talent just not the hot bats...I'm not letting last night's hot bats of the Yankees relax my gut feelings. On last thing...every single time that Freeman is up to bat...WALK HIM INTENTIONALLY!! Freeman might be just lucky but there's no reason to push our luck against his burning hot bat. GO YANKEES!!
  15. ... Games 1 and 2 and 3 of the 2024 World Series belongs solely to the Dodgers. My Yankees hat is tipped to the Dodgers in complete respect. Game 4 of the 2024 World Series is today at 5:08pm, pacific time, at Yankee Stadium. Dodgers will have on the mound RHP Casparius (2-0, 2.16 ERA) and the Yankees will have on the mound RHP Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA). Thus far, the Yankees bats have suffered from a severe case of frost bite...of the worse kind. On the other hand, the Dodgers' batters require asbestos hitting gloves in order to hold onto their sizzling bats. The odds are stacked up against the Yankees in capturing their 28th World Series. Deservingly so, the facts thus far are undeniable. Speaking about facts... *No MLB team has overcome a 3-0 deficit to win the WS, even though 4 teams have won two straight games to force a game 6, and two teams forced a game 7. *Even though this fact is not about a comeback in the WS, the Red Sox battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the 2004 ALCS. After all of the dust settled, the Red Sox won their first WS title in 86 years. *Have the Yankees ever been swept in the WS? Yes...3 times. Today might be their 4th time for being swept in the WS. This World Series for the Yankees have been disastrous while on the other hand, the World Series for the Dodgers has been nothing short of triumphant. GO YANKEES!!
  16. Yankees lost to the hosting Dodgers in game #3: Yankees 2 and Dodgers 4. Yankees will now host the Dodgers in games 3-5. Imho, the Yankees have their backs against the wall, especially how the Dodgers are playing and how the Yankees are NOT playing. Yankee bats are so-so, but Judge's bat is stone cold. Hot bat in the regular season, then comes the playoffs into the WS and Judge has become a strikeout king. On other thing, Boone has to make better moves and not drag his feet because when he hiccups in making a move, the Yankees start falling apart on both the offense and defense. Game 3 tonight at Yankee Stadium with first pitch at 5:08pm, pacific time. Clarke Schmidt (5-5, 2.85 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for New York against fellow right-hander Walker Buehler (1-6, 5.38 ERA), who makes his Yankee Stadium debut. Do I watch or not?? I'm like a cat on a hot tin roof with anticipation of its final outcome. Patrick, now that you moved to LA, you still a Yankee fan or have you changed pinstripes for Dodger Blue?? Have you been to or planning to go to the World Series at either venue?? GO YANKEES!!
  17. I'm not very sympathetic to any of my students that are losing interest of getting on the floor. That's that student's responsibility to get on the floor so that that student can increase their MA betterment. I can't force a student to get on the floor when they really don't want to; it's their MA journey. Only exception to that is a student who has some physical and mental limitations!! Those students need the space to manage their physical and mental limitations to the best of their abilities. I'll just stay in contact with that student just to see how they are doing and offer any help that I can. There's an old saying that goes something like this..."You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force the horse to drink the water." Patience goes a long way. If after some time, and the student finally decides to end their MA training due to physical and/or mental limitations, then I'll respect their decision and let them know if they want to just talk or whatever else, please don't hesitate in getting in touch with me. But if said student just wants to not train and whine about it, I've got nothing for them. You have to want to train. Sure, I'll try to get to the real reasons as to why their feeling that way and try to encourage them. However, I've very little patience and tolerance for those students that don't want to be on the floor. I'd rather that student just go away because I've other students to tend to who want to be on the floor. Cruel?? Perhaps.
  18. First ever Walk-Off Grandslam Home Run in World Series history!! By whom?? Freeman of the Dodgers!! Dodgers 6 and Yankees 3 Dodgers lead the WS 1-0 Yankees lead game #1 to in the top of the 10th…2 outs…runners at 1st and 2nd bases…Yankees intentionally walk the Dodgers…load the bases…WHY?? Makes no sense to me at all!! Game over!! Both teams had 1 error each!! However, the Yankees one error cost them a run that tied the game 2-2 for in the bottom of the 8th, with Ohtani coming to home plate from 3rd base!! GO YANKEES!!
  19. Enquiring minds want to know. So, no, it's not unusual or odd about said kata of interest. It's the right of any MAist to learn whatever might be effective for ones MA betterment. Can't know if one doesn't ask for themselves.

Thank you, Brian for being a true friend on and off the floor; means everything to me!! I too will always cherish the time we spent together those 2 days training and laughing. Fighting, that I will do to my last breath!! Hard to imagine that I've been on the floor for 60 years, but there it is. 60 years in Shindokan!!
  21. Very sad news both in and out of MLB. Before I was a Yankee fan, I was a Dodgers fan; blue through and through. Being raised in the San Fernando Valley, a part of Los Angeles County, I was a big-time fan of the Dodgers. My fondest memories bac then was watching Valenzuela on the mound, in particular whenever the Dodgers faced the Yankees, especially in the World Series of 1981 where the Dodgers won the WS in 4-2 games. Valenzuela had an unhittable screwball which frustrated batters to no end, and to add misery to it all, it was said once by famed TV and Radio Announcer, Vin Scully, that Valenzuela had 3 different ways of throwing his screwball. I distinctly remember Valenzuela's look-up-to-the-heavens with his eyes rolled back before each pitch. Who was Valenzuela's interpreter?? Dodgers' manager, Tommy Lasorda, no less. Game 3 of the 1981 WS between the Dodgers and the Yankees was Fernando Valenzuela’s most impressive performance when he gave up 9 hits and 7 walks as he blasted out a 147-pitch complete game victory. He's the GOAT!! Long live Fernandomania. His ERA in 1981 was a minuscule 0.50. Valenzuela earned in 1981 the National League Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards. He was the only player ever to win both in the same year. My sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, Dodgers Organization, and his countless numbers of fans worldwide; RIP 34...RIP El Toro!!
  22. Raiders signed Desmond Ridder off Cardinals practice squad after Aidan O'Connell injury. Ridder will back up Minshew, who was demoted from starter to backup prior to Week 6, and is now the starter again...who might be demoted once again due to the Raiders loss to the Rams. Woe-is-the-Raiders. GO COWBOYS!!
  23. Glad to hear that the Golden Knights was amongst last night winners on the ice. Knights melted the ice under the Kings here in Las Vegas with a final score of Knights 6 and the Kings 1. Next for the Knights, 4-2-1, at home will be the Senators, 4-2-0, this Friday, October 25th. GO KNIGHTS!!
  24. We do Mokuso, meditate, right before and after class for several minutes in order to clear our minds and thoughts that fall in line with Mizu No Kokoro (Mind Like Water) and Tsuki No Kokoro (Mind Like the Moon) which are integrated into Zen and MA and are inter-related to each other. We usually
  25. In Shindokan, we don't use the term "Master" in any given text or sub-text. Which is good because we've enough titles/labels to go around. I suppose our Shogo titles, Renshi, Kyoshi, Hanshi are the only titles that mean more than anything. Renshi meaning “polished expert” or “master instructor.” Kyoshi meaning "teacher". Hanshi meaning "exemplary teacher" or "master of masters". Renshi can utilize the term "master Instructor" and Hanshi can utilize the term "master of master" to describe themselves, if it floats their boat, but I prefer dropping the "master" handle due to the fact that I'm no "master" of anything because I'm always learning. Thankfully, we use "polished expert" for Renshi and "exemplary teacher" for Hanshi. Kyoshi seems to be the only Shogo title that's not full of itself by just being a "teacher".
