  1. Hey sorry, I should’ve been more specific. I am referring to a standard Nunchaku, albeit with longer handles, to accommodate for both hands being used on the same side.
  2. Has anyone ever heard of the use of nunchaku being used with both hands, specifically in Okinawan Kobudo? From what I have heard, the handles are longer when being used this way and the connection (rope, chain, etc.) is shorter.
  3. Why is Hojo Undo broader and more prevalent in styles that derived from Naha-te vs. styles that derived from Shuri-te and Tomari-te? I may just be ignorant, but I feel that Naha-te derived styles have more unique forms of Hojo Undo, and a larger practice in general of Hoju Undo that Shuri-te derived styles. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
  4. It’s definitely a new look, but I think it looks great! Thanks Patrick!
  5. Just as the title says, I’m inquiring on your least favorite kata. I guess I’ll start, with my least favorite kata being Pinan Nidan. I don’t really have anything against it, it’s a fine kata, I think I just spent too much time on that kata to the point where I don’t really enjoy performing it anymore. Any thoughts?
  6. I just started listening to the audiobook version of A Cook’s Tour: Global Adventures in Extreme Cuisines by Anthony Bourdain. There’s a version on Spotify that is narrated by Bourdain himself, definitely worth a read, but I do prefer hearing the author’s voice with this one.
  7. Three cheers for @Bulltahr!
  8. I’m not gonna lie, it can really inhibit my ability to get my work done. It’s not that I don’t care about my work either, I really enjoy my job, hell, I’ll stay up at night stressing over it. I just really struggle to find the motivation when I’m unmedicated.
  9. Hey everyone, How are you all doing? Main Question for today: What are you focusing on in this stage of your training? Whether it be a specific technique you’re trying to master, a concept, flexibility, strength, it can be anything. I always find it so interesting to learn what others are working on right now, especially with the different age ranges and skill level of other practitioners. I feel that it can give me insights and inspiration for my own training.
  10. Yessir! I’ve done it a few times, I really feel like it gives me a good base strength to start from, lots of compound movements, good for my karate. Side note, sorry I haven’t been active as much, I ran out of my ADHD medication and was just trying to survive through my workdays. I got a refill now so we’re back on top.
  11. I finished that one a few months ago, I enjoyed it. When I started the series I expected to hate it, but it was a lot better than I anticipated. I read Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, a fantastic read if you haven’t read it yet. I’m currently reading a book called Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing, it’s about Ernest Shackleton’s failed attempt to cross the Antarctic continent. If you like history, (I think we all do, no?), then I highly recommend picking this one up. A great story of struggle and perseverance.
  12. Hey guys, I’ve been neglecting my training log for a while. I started at a new gym yesterday that seems really nice so I’m excited about that. Tuesday 06/10/2026 Walked on treadmill for 30 min. Bench 90 lbs 5 x 5 OHP 90 lbs 5 x 5 Deadlift 135 lbs 1 x 5 Stretching and Mobility 15 min Breakfast - Nothing Lunch - Burrito Dinner - Queso, Rice, Chicken Breast
  13. Thanks! I thought it would be a fun question
  14. Hey all, If you could choose one karateka from the past to train with, who would you pick, and why? They have to be deceased, and you cannot have trained with them while they were living.
  15. Let me just start by saying that was a wonderful response, with much more information than I had expected, thank you so much. From what I’ve seen over the years, this is coincidental with many short weapons, and that only waza were practiced originally, the forms were created afterwards. I wonder if that is what Ti was originally like. To my understanding, Nakandakari is a reference to the nickname of Nakamura Seigi, who was an early practitioner / instructor at the Nagamine dojo and Shima dojo, he practiced both Matsubayashi ryu and Goju ryu, but to my knowledge his Goju ryu lineage is unknown (at least I can’t find any info on it). Does karamiti also include kata practice? I’m a little unsure of the meaning of this term. In my mind, it’s referring to indigenous Okinawan martial arts, like pre-1700s. Or is this a synonym of torite / tuite? I find your style extremely interesting, thank you so much for engaging! I’ll throw in a couple more questions if it’s okay with you. Is it known where Kanagusuku Sanda learned his karate / kobujutsu? Since the time he was practicing, how do you think your style has changed? Do you think it is still true to what he taught? Since the style is older, do you see any similarities between Ufuchiku Kobujutsu / Karamiti and Motobu Udundi, or even Matsumura Seito? Thanks again!!
