  1. First of all...Welcome to KarateForums.com!! Glad to have you here!! To the bold type above...Not necessarily! If said school is considered by said individual, then there's not really much can be done because McDojo's will be around for quite along time because there's no legislation which has been promulgated to stop there infestation. Interpretation of whether it is or it isn't a McDojo will be up to the individual. Therefore, any individual will have to visit said school many times, and in that, they'll also have to speak with said instructor(s) before one can reach their own conclusions. That being said, I will have to say this again, and hopefully, I'm not beating this like a dead horse, but....Proof IS on the floor!! But one has to know how to discern exactly what the floor is telling/showing you candidaly. First impression are so important, and whether it's a good or bad first impression, that too must be interpretated by said individual. I'd go as far as asking said schools business neighbors about their impressions about the school, its students, as well as its instructor(s) because sometimes, that can reveal quite a lot about said school of the MA. Don't be so fast to judge vacantly!! Imho!!
  2. WOW!! That, in a nutshell says it all!! Moved me in many positive ways. Ways that are both personal as well as professional. Every Shindokan instructor will be sent said link, and in that, I will greatly encourage them to share it with whomever they desire to, with no certain preference at all. Thank you for sharing it!!
  3. With Thanksgiving behind us, from my family, Linda, Nathan, Krystal, and myself, we'd like to wish everyone here at KF a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Be safe and have fun!! =closest thing to a santa hat
  4. Happy Thanksgiving to all and please be safe these holidays!!
  5. Is the download onto YouTube difficult? Are there some things I should be aware of before hand? What's the typical price range for said camera? I don't want a grainy lousy recording; I want quality. Thanks in advance.
  6. Yes!! Unless they've got something to hide! However, keep them roped off so that they DO NOT DISTURB the testing cycle in any shape, way, and/or form.
  7. Yeah, why not! Hope everything works out for him in his new venue/promotion. After all, imho, it's all about the bottom line!!
  8. Yes I have, and more, and it's not too much. Not for quality and the like!!
  9. It's his choice and if that's what he wants to do, then I support him!! There's a lot of wear and tear from the sports he's involved in.
  10. Congrats to him in receiving his honorary 9th Dan in TKD.
  11. The video shows sport karate and it doesn't show anything else. Having said that, those techniques CAN be effective, I mean, those in the video who were knocked down would say that those techniques felt effective. But, outside of that given venue, well, maybe! Does it reflect true karate-do? No, it doesn't!! Imho!! There are no points on the street!!
  12. Will bleeding happen NO MATTER what one does or doesn't do??
  13. Yes, Welcome to KF!! Visit schools of the MA that's core is of grappling. For example, BJJ, Judo, and Hwa Rang Do, do name just a few. I'd say that's what I'd do. If one wants tomatoes, then one has to visit the tomatoe vendor. If one wants to learn how to grapple, then visit schools of the MA that teach grappling. Good luck!!
  14. I don't fight and I didn't learn how to fight, and I didn't want to learn how to fight, and in that; I'm complete in my totality as a MAist!! We tag labels inappropriate at times throughout all of the MA no matter what its intent was, and in that, laymen grasp upon what sounds good instead of learning about the MA by asking pointed questions. Imho!!
  15. But does that mean you know how to be violent when you need to?Well...resolvent, at least!!
  16. Great post! Great share! I concur!!
  17. Our Hombu is really trying to do some YouTube segments containing a wide Shindokan techniques/kata/etc, but... We've no idea on what type of camera and the like to use. Sorry if I've asked this question before, I'm not sure if I've asked before. Any help would be appreciated and welcomed. HELP!!
  18. Solid post!! Master Ron Sell is a quality instructor, imho!! On the subject of an instructor being frustrated with said student(s). I will not tolerate any of my instructors to show frustration to any of our student body because that just increases the students level of frustration. We're to TEACH!! Teaching means to show..to mold..to encourage..to set forth right..to adjust their learning compass..to TEACH them correctly...etc. To bring about within them their "AHA" moment without showing that we're frustrated. This, imho, is a direct attack on the students mindset to learn, and in that, we must show them HOW to do it in such a way that they understand because not all students learn the same way. Instructors have no right on my floor to show any frustration towards a students learning curve and the like, and if they do, they'll be counseled by myself in my office behind close doors!! I will not tolerate it, nor will I allow any exceptions to that maxim. Otherwise, they've no business, imho, of being an instructor, in that, not all BB can teach!!
  19. Another solid post!!
  20. Solid post!!
  21. Yeah baby...party on!!
  22. Queston to all... Are your knuckles SUPPOSE to bleed while training the makawara?
  23. Try to make the changes now and many will turn in their graves; some literally and some figuratively...if you get my meaning.
  24. Oh YEAH!!
  25. ALso... "Women generally wear the same colour belts as men, although some prefer a white stripe on the length of the belt. This distinction was initiated by the Kodokan so that women would be differentiated from male competitors. But with the increasing number of women actively involved in national and international competition, the tradition of the white-striped belt seems to be vanishing." http://www.judocanada.org/system/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/National-Kyu-Grading.pdf Within Shindokan's Junior BB's identifiers, all karateaka's of this distinguishment are required to wear the black belt with a white stripe down its entire center length. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. Kind of like when a driver gets there learners permit and/or they're under 18 years of age respectively, their's are vertically up and down, instead of a 'regular' license is horizontally side to side. Easier for LEO's and the like, as well as others to decern them from those who are over 18 years of age. I've also seen the Renshi BB myself as noted with the red stripe down the center of said BB in many different styles of the MA.
