  1. Interesting. In that, I suppose you choose TKD because you've been training in it for some time now, and your training hasn't been for naught.
  2. Have you ever doubted with anything within the MA? I know I have many, many times. Doubting oneself is the beginning of discovering. The MA isn't for everyone, and in that, if the MA was so easy, then everyone would be doing it, well, doing it effectively. Why do I stand this way? Why do I punch this way? Why do I kick this way? Why can't I get it right? What is wrong with me? Everyone else seems to have no difficulties...except me!! Why is this kata so hard for me? Why is my sparring ineffective? Why? Why? Why? This internal battle is fought day in and day out. The most advanced MAist has had doubts before, even today!! Why? We're human, and in that, we will doubt ourself from tme to time for whatever the reason(s) might or might not be. No matter where the doubt has come from, it's still there for us to dwell over and over. If you haven't doubted, you probably haven't thought very hard about what you believe!! I open the floor for your thoughts.
  3. Rank up when it's appropriate, and not whenever it fits. Time heals all wounds, but rushing rank can only hurt ones betterment as a MAist. Rank up when it's right, and not because you want it; you shouldn't want rank because you're shouldn't be learning the MA for the sake of rank alone. Imho!! As far as your question about the church. Speak with the pastor about it, and see what he/she says, including charging for the lessons and the like. Many churches don't allow the MA to be taught at their church for many reasons, and whether we like the reason(s) or not, it's their church. Good luck!
  4. While they both might seem similar, imho, they're worlds apart. Hence, that's why they're not being called Shotokankyokushinkai/Kyokushinkaishotokan.
  5. A good sensei doesn't examine from time to time. His job is to constantly correct and advise. The shiai-Jo and the dojo are distinctly different places. K. True, however, I was speaking about the MAist in general and not the Sensei/Instructor having to examine from time to time.
  6. Whoa...those that I would still want to train with, well, ANYONE!! I'm not selective when it comes to exchanges and the like because I believe that MAists have something to offer no matter rank.
  7. Did you choose said MA OR Did said MA choose you??
  8. Yes, RIP, very sad story; thanks for sharing it. I sincerely believe that any weight loss should be under the guidance of a doctor because, if one's not careful, something very serious might hapen.
  9. I wholeheartedly concur with Brian!! Very rewarding to hear that you've returned. Felt great, huh? And yes, welcome back to KF as well!!
  10. How should a Kata be performed? To the very best of their abilities. Their best will need to be examined from time to time. Imho!!
  11. Make the instructor in question be accountable for their inappropriate actions. If you're under a contract, and you're wanting to void said contract, get with your lawyer to seek a possible breach of contract on the Sensei's actions. Accountability!!
  12. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!!
  13. To excel at the MA, one must not be injured, so, heal first, then train. Otherwise, permanent set backs will rule the day. Good luck, and hang in there!!
  14. Time heals all wounds...welcome back to the floor!!
  15. Solid post!! Kata should vary because true situations vary across the board.
  16. Great article...solid across the board!! Thanks for sharing it.
  17. As always, Alex make it points valid and quite thoughtful...SOLID article!! Thanks for sharing it!!
  18. How'd I miss this before? Sorry! What a great article Danielle...SOLID across the board. Thank you for sharing it!!
  19. In your opinion... What's more important... Proper Execution OR Effectiveness?? Can one survive without the other?!?!?!?! I can look good while executing any said technique(s), but that doesn't mean that my technique(s) are effective. As always, I look forward to your thoughts.
  20. Practically doesn't mean none; therefore, Aikido does have kicks/strikes, just enough to be effective in set-ups and the like. It's possible that Segal has done some extensive cross training with other styles of the MA, and in that, it's possible he's learnt other things while being in Law Enforcement.
  21. Congrats...feels great, huh??
  22. Sorry to hear about your knee. As with most everything, TIME will tell. If an injury isn't rushed and allowed to follow the natural course of healing and the like. A long time is relevent, and in that, to rush it will mean that you'll never be able to progress positively. Rank can wait because it's just not that important. Knowledge and the like will progress if you're proactive about it!! Take care, take time to heal properly, and listen to your DOCTOR and not your Sensei, unless your Sensei is also your Doctor.
  23. Congrats!! Feels great, huh?
  24. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!!
