  1. Thank you, Patrick for the video, however, the volume was very low even with all of my volumes way high.
  2. I've always tumbled dried my gi forever because that's how I was taught by my mom and grandma. Shrink concerns, if any, were always considered when I bought a new gi. So, almost 7 decades later, I still tumble dry my gi. As far as the gi not lasting long if tumbled dried, well, nothing lasts forever.
  3. Congrats, KarateKen; well deserved!!
  4. In order to reacclimate me back into the flow of the comings and goings, I wholeheartedly would enjoy Patrick as a 2nd Manager, please and thank you.
  5. Seeing that Shindokan is comprised of 85% hands and 15% feet, our flow drills are segmentally structured, meaning they're divided into Gedan, Chudan, Jodan, and Mixed. Our aim is to get behind our opponent. The use of our feet are mainly for setting up our hands. Our flow drills that we are taught are to compliment our intended aim at all times. Therefore, we learn how to attack the levels of our opponent, being it Gedan (Low) or it being Chudan (Middle) or it being Jodan (High) or it being Mixed. After all, we either create a weakness or we discover a weakness or weaknesses in combinations of our opponent, hence the flow because no fight in reality is always like a one-step drill. One side note. Because Shindokan is highly steeped in grappling, we've Open flow drills where we use at all levels of the body as well. On the mixed, we start setting up the three levels. For example, we will drill two of the three levels by eliminating the remaining level. Chudan and Jodan. Next time Chudan and Gedan. So on and so forth.
  6. Patrick, I'd greatly appreciate some help with getting me reacclimated once again with the ins and outs. Thank you. ::bagovermyheademoticon::
  7. I've tried to fix things to no avail. Did ADD players but not seeing I did any good!! Double DRAT!!
  8. The martial arts aren't dead. What's dead is said practitioners executing of said techniques effectively. The martial arts shouldn't be blamed whatsoever, nonetheless, the practitioner most definitely should be.
  9. DRAT!! Man oh Man I've forgotten so much about how to do this!! Martial Arts is far easier!! DRAT!! Let me look at it again before my teams fans ask for my head.
  10. Fumio Demura passed away today, April 24, 2023, at the age of 84 years old. My sincerest and deepest condolence's go out to his family, friends, and students. He's well known both in and out of the martial arts world. In the martial arts world he's quite recognized for his many contributions within the martial arts. Outside of the martial arts, he's most recognized as the true Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid movies in the 1980's. He was born September 15, 1938 in Yokohama, Japan. He was a 9th Dan in Shito-ryu; his teachers were Ryusho Sakagami and Taira Shinken. He will be sorely missed, now and forever. RIP Demura Sensei.
  11. On April 5, 2023 I had my treatment shot with Eligard 30mg. As a reminder, I receive my Treatment Shot once every 4 months. Surprisingly, my treatment shot that day was done in the morning instead of the normal afternoon. Yet, as of late, no matter the amount of prepping for my treatment shot in taken, those last seconds seem for longer because of the excruciating pain. Shot's given to my left triceps directly into my tissue. Next treatment shot will be somewhere on August 2023. Picture below is of the prepping materials conducted at Dr. Goodman's office: http://www.karateforums.com/img/photos/sensei8-treatment.jpg Link below is some details as to the procedure: https://www.drugs.com/pro/eligard.html
  12. Indeed, it was a AHA moment, of course it won't be your last. Of which the MA journey is riddled with many AHA moments, some mild and others not so mild. I do agree with your CI's instruction for you to "defend better", which will come as you become more mature in your techniques. I do want to encourage you to not be dissuaded in your training in any way over this situation because it'll serve no purpose whatsoever. Learn from it. Train hard and train well.
  13. We know it as 13 Hands of which we utilize 3 different stances, Shiko Dachi, Zenkutsu Dachi, and Neko Dachi while undertaking slow breathing.
  14. Thank you for the help, Patrick. Let me see if I can rewrap my head around it all.
  15. Time in rank (i.e., you have to be x belt for y number of months to test for the next) is one thing, but minimum hours of training is a different animal. Minimum hours of training is unfathomable because in any given ratio years and months outweigh trained hours.
  16. There's a funny thing about obligations. Who to give it to or who to take it away from or keeping itself to oneself or even to the style itself. But here's what matters...once decided, and only the individual can decide, it requires serious dedication and thoroughness. Fun? Sure? Of course. Who wants to learn and train and whatever else if it's not fun. Nonetheless, obligation and fun have to be entwined with each other for the betterment of the practitioner. Imho.
  17. Yeah, I've not done this in so long I feel like I've no idea what in the world am I doing or if my poor team is doing. Someone has to be in last place.
  18. Thank you, Brian for starting this thread and to all who've contributed to this thread. I've enjoyed reading the OP as well as the other posts. Fantastic information and viewpoints all around.
  19. Still haven't heard from the Financial Department of Dr. Goodman's practice, in regard to my Eligard shot, and a possible Grant that pays for the shot. That shot costs $15,572 EACH. My first year with Dr. Goodman's patients receiving Eligard and the like didn't have to make any payments because we had a Grant. Second year, there was no available Grant to pay for the shot due to the fact that there was no money available for any Grants, for which we had to meet our out-of-pocket, which for me was $2,500. There is the beginning of my third year and the Financial Department is still waiting to find out if any Grants might be available this year. I was informed when I went to speak to the Financial Department that they'd not heard anything yet. I did fill out, as I do every year, a Financial Assistance form. Fingers crossed!! Until then, my last shot, which was on April 5, 2023, I was told to not make any payment until they hear back about any Grants. If there's no Grants, then I'll pay $50 to $100 a month. My out-of-pocket is now only $1,000 this year. I've been assured that my shot will NEVER be refused!!
  20. Yes, the fa jin ideology is alive and well in Karate. Being relaxed before reaching said target is vitally important. Why? if any part of the body is already tensed, then any said technique(s) is already arrested before it even begins. Being tensed permits any telegraphic movement as well. "Not being tense but ready. Not thinking but not dreaming. Not being set but flexible. Liberation from the uneasy sense of confinement. It is being wholly and quietly alive, aware and alert, ready for whatever may come." ~Bruce Lee "Everything you do, if not in a relaxed state will be done at a lesser level than you are proficient. Thus, the tensed expert marksman will aim at a level less than his/her student." ~Bruce Lee If we ignore the properties of fa jin in any MA, then the other Bruce Lee quote can't happen... "'I' do not hit, 'it' hits all by itself." ~ Bruce Lee
  21. You're welcome. In actuality, it's a two-way street with each of us helping each other across the board. Your contributions are greatly appreciated, and for that, I thank you.
  22. Congrats, Drew; well deserved!!
  23. I wholeheartedly agree.
  24. Yes, Congrats to Zach and the other testing candidates!! Zach is NOW Ikkyu, and that threshold by itself is a special milestone across the board. CONGRATS!! I gave a knowing nod of appreciation whenever I read about how large the Testing Cycle was because in our Hombu's Annual Testing Cycle held every June and July we had to use the Hombu's Gymnasium AND the first and second floor. Our Annual Testing Cycle at the Hombu takes us 2 weeks to complete. Soon, Father and Son will both be Yudansha...I'm so excited and proud of you both so very much!! Train hard and train well!!
  25. I just carry the darn thing. However, I do like Fat Cobra's suggestion a lot. Please let us know, Fractured, what you decide.
