Boxing

It can count as a martial art, but I see it as more in the martial sport category. -
Question for you TKD, and Karate people
Kyle-san replied to Xerziz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, good for you. I'm glad that you're motivated to be better. But, please, make an attempt to find a grappling school to try out your theories. Oh, but one last word of advice. I used to think like you do when I was in Shotokan karate, but then I met my current sensei and my mind changed pretty quickly. Try keeping your eyes and mind open, you might actually learn something. -

As it's been pointed out, not all Jujistu schools concentrate on going to the ground. That's a dangerous, and inexperienced, comment to make. Besides, I've always subscribed to the philosophy that anyone has a chance at beating anyone else. There's no guaranteeing ideal circumstances, which means anything can happen. -
Sport vs combat
Kyle-san replied to TJS's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Generally speaking, if an arm or other limb is broken that'll be the end of the fight. This isn't the movies where you have a dramatic fight to the finish despite severe injuries (like a broken arm). There are very few people that will keep going after a broken arm. -
What are you working on now?

Well, now that I've been promoted it seems I'll be working on my throws more. -
Devastating throws

I'm quite happy with the throws I'm learning in my Jujitsu class. -

Stamina conditioning, general upper body strength, and basics. Always basics. -
That was far from a complete list. I'd talk about Jujutsu being obscure due to the fact there are something like 1700+ different variations. However, it seems everyone and their dog is jumping on the Jujutsu train.

What style of Jujitsu are you learning? -
MA Short (2-3 yrs)- To get my blue belt in Aki Jujitsu. Long (6 yrs +)- To get my black belt in Aki Jujitsu, learn more about knife fighting, open my own dojo. Life Short (2-3 yrs)- Finish university, take a trip to Spain, enjoy myself. Long (6 yrs +)- Have a job with the Police Service, and everything else depends on who I've met by then.

The backfist is one of the quickest and easiest techniques that you can use. I use it consistantly.

Spiderman is much faster and more agile than Wolverine, it's been stated time and again that if Spidey has room to work he can take on almost anyone. Plus most people forget about his strength, he's a much stronger hero than most out there. Wolverine is above average in speed and strength, but no where near Spiderman's level. On the other hand, Wolverine can take a good hit. I mean, the first person they put him against was the Hulk and he came out just fine. So, overall I'd say Spiderman would take the win, but it'd be a hard fight. Oh, and I'm not sure how Spidey would go about breaking Wolverine's neck. Y'know, with the invulnerable skeleton and all.

Jiu-Jitsu
Kyle-san replied to Smiler's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Just be careful, there are a lot of schools of Jujitsu out there, and it is starting to become like Judo, Karate and TKD before it. There are a lot of bad instructors, and a lot of very good instructors. -
I used to be quite angry, didn't have a balance, and was an easy target for abuse. Now I'm generally calm, in better shape, and am far from an easy target.

What courses are offered at your Martial arts School

Aki Jujitsu -
A good stance is the basis for everything else, so I'd say a fair ammount of time should be devoted to doing them properly.

My school has ranks, but everyone learns everything with a few exceptions. Once you know how to break fall properly, you're welcome to learn any technique taught in class. The ranks are just further smoothing, perfecting, and learning little tricks to make the techniques smoother, faster, better. So, really, it's like not having any ranks at all.

Oh, I realized what you were getting at, I just thought to post the advice I hear most on that topic. Sorry if it seemed I was implying that you thought the test was wrong. And I've found that people misinterpret arrogance quite often.

It's very indicative of a samurai frame of mind, and should be taken that way. Anything read in that book could be applied to a modern situation, but would take some thinking through. I found it a good exercise in modifying examples. But I do ramble, so it doesn't matter. Keep reading, you may like it in the end.

Personally, I prefer light sparring if you get someone who really understands the intent of it. I mean, yeah, anyone can spar light and just not react to a tap or strike. If you get someone who understands they need to react and not just keep going like nothing's happening, then light sparring is very beneficial. But that's just me.

Yeah. He's old and slow. Mr. America, I mean, Hulk Hogan is really only good at working the crowd now. Of course, that's what he was always good at doing, but now that's about the only decent thing. Oh, and my name is just an incorrect use of the suffix "-san". All I could ever think of.

As my sensei has said every time new students join "It doesn't matter what's done at other dojos. They train their way, we train ours. That doesn't make either right or wrong, but that means when you're here you train with us. The other dojo doesn't matter here."
