  1. That, because we're a Jujitsu art, that we're exactly like BJJ.
  2. Congratulations, that's a huge acomplishment.
  3. I'd block and grab the arm as I'm turning, then apply a hip throw. Quick, simple, and I can control him on the ground.
  4. Yeah, that's pretty much how it is.
  5. I agree with the thought that if something is lacking in your art, it's best to try and make up for it with something else. I know my sensei has taken a few different arts, but still just teaches Aki Jujitsu, and he actively encourages us to fill in the blanks.
  6. Every few weeks absolutely nothing will go right for me.
  7. Just slight spelling differences that are all accepted.
  8. Aki Jujitsu focuses mainly on circular techniques, but does have a few linear movements.
  9. We don't actually have a set testing in the dojo I attend, basically whenever the sensei feels that you've achieved what you need to at that belt level he just tells you to move up to the next row of belts.
  10. How so? Do you have anything to back this statement up, or is it just an opinion? It's much closer to Judo than to TJJ, it's even been said in a few articles that BJJ was derived from Judo. Unfortunately, I don't have any links to them.
  11. It's odd, but the style of Jujitsu I'm taking right now only has one level of black belt. Once you reach it, it's just assumed you'll keep learning and perfecting techniques without the need to keep adding ranks to yourself.
  12. My sensei doesn't allow anyone under 14 to be a part of the class, no exceptions.
  13. No, I hadn't heard that term until reading it here on the forums.
  14. I have no problems with doing what it takes to end a fight quickly, if that means a guy gets a shot to the balls, oh well.
  15. Yeah, I can agree with that. Everytime I hear about how great the conditioning, training quality, how you earn your belts, etc in BJJ it reminds me of my TJJ club. I like that.
  16. I completely agree with everything said there. Unfortunately, as with other martial arts, a few bad schools and instructors have left a bad impression of Judo as nothing more than a sport art.
  17. Exactly. There are good and bad instructors and schools in any style.
  18. Both JJ dojos I've attended have not followed this pattern. I think the main problem with comparing TJJ to BJJ is that there are something like 1700 systems of TJJ, all of which train differently. There's no way to say one or two or five are representative of every system. Another thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of TJJ McDojos out there, ones that are completely ineffective. To go with Johnny's story about making high ranking belts tap after 5 BJJ lessons, I held my own in a tournament against a BJJ player who'd been in for close to a year while I'd only had a few months of training. He beat me in the end, yes, but it wasn't such a crushing defeat.
  19. Yeah, it was far superior. I really enjoyed the Jinchuu arc, it's too bad they didn't use that for the show.
  20. I feel Aki Jujitsu is fairly complete, but slightly lacking in some weapons and chi work. They're still covered, but mostly just the basics.
  21. Unfortunately, I only get one two hour class a week. However, I practice daily and suppliment my training with some light weight work on the side.
  22. I went through two different clubs that were in the process of becoming McDojos.
