do you need to be at a dojo?
boyo1991 replied to boyo1991's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i started out without a dojo, and it seemed to be a platform to get me motivated to go to one.. i voted no, because of the fact that the videos online can be good instruction.. -
sai lol, there just not right, they are little swords with extra... handle overings? o.O well i guess if the sai didnt have those they would be useful for sneak attacks, but with them the knife is still really noticable..

What Fees are you Paying for Training
boyo1991 replied to marksmarkou's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
to tell you the truth, the local dojo lets me clean the mats to pay for lessons. (other than what i can give a lesson..) -
i mean really, cant the dojo just be in ur mind and never really take lessons and still learn just as much as everyone else (what i mean by lessons is formal lessons in the dojo, online lessons are not included, you man use them )? cuz i think this is very possible, you may look weird without a GI, or uniform/belt, but eh, its possible aint it?

dont try any fansy stuff, just do what you need to do to run.. open a gap in the assailants and run for your life.. you dont take them all on phisicly, but its their fault for letting you get away, so in a way you took them on anyways..

Tricks for quickly disabling an opponent.
boyo1991 replied to WhiteDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i know this sounds weird since im TKD and boxing, but, kamora.. if they land on their stomach from a kick to the face, kamora will get a nice little tapout in about 5 seconds -
well think about the old saying: your defense is your greatest offense.. of course defense is better, let ur prey come to you

Avoiding Grouund Fighting
boyo1991 replied to Aces Red's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
well most of the options have already bees stated, the one i use the most is the sprawl, but, then again thats only when im with friends (kuz in tkd when you go down, you get stood right back up ya know) and we do mma styles, but ive also found a way to keep them from doing the attacks in the first place: make sure you study when they do the attack, and what positions there in before hand, then when you see them coming at it, go in and close the gap QUICKLY and do actually a boxing move; do a quick punch out.. that usually rattles em up when ever they try those dirty tricks on me -
i get that too, all i do is after a few kicks sit down and take a short break, deep breaths and a few sips of water, and clear your head of thought, of course im saying this as i get dissy, but if its so dissy to the point that it hurts, then defenitly go with bushido lol (like everyone else has said)

when i think about chi/ki, ive thought of it this way(im a christian as well) i think that ki/chi are forces that you get from the 8 (yes i said 8, its what i belive: 2-hands 2-feet 1-head 1-heart 1-sumach 1-"pleasure area" ) and those chakras are actually created by the mind, in which itself is a chakra.. i belive that the mind is soooo powerful, it can actually create chakra... so its not linked to spirituality, but still connected to a supernatural power..

to me it means if you pour your heart into the fight, and you keep coming at it with ALL ur might, you will reach the focal point of perfection.

TKD Video Game
boyo1991 replied to bushido_man96's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
lol i was all like: wow this looks amazing! till i seen you had to pay for it XD i dont even pay full price for my lessons lol i have to clean the mats, oh well -
this is my take on things too, i have to pay for tuition by cleaning the mats and giving what i can a week, and i pay my sensei 10 dollars a lesson, and clean the mats, and i can go every day of the week, but then also, im in TKD/MMA stuff, so it may vary according to style

boyo1991 replied to Tae Kwon DOH's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
well, ive always been taught to point in opposite direction for that exact reason, but ive also realized that pointing the foot in opp direction gives more balance and stability *nods* -
