i didnt want to put it in grappliing arts because that forum seems to b more for like... questions or discussion.. this is kinda a little excitement.. idk move it if its not right ty lol today in class, we watched the only other white belt in class besides myself recieve his yellow belt.. no test... just hard work. he looked so happy! and seeing that strives me on ive been working hard basicly breathing judo... im really enjoying myself! i am building confidence i never thought i really truely had (more than TKD EVER could...) and im learning so much! its rediculous! this seems to b in part because of the partner aspect that judo requires.. talking to your partner or little randori... amazing fun. its like solving a rubiks cube.. when you know the right way to do it, you dont even see how you couldnt do it before! i love it. i suggest judo to everyone not because its effective but because its fun. my dojo doesnt really focus on the names of each move, just really realizing where yyour opponent goes. a lot of the time we randori blind folded so we just feel it out. its awesome!

my dojo has a technical rule.. i say technical cuz exeptions are made.... in the lower belts, we are not allowed to throw or be thrown by airial throws... such as ippon seoi nage. now, i have been thrown, and have been throwing it in randori.... the sensei hasnt said, and even given me better pointers on how to throw it stronger and we also learned how to fix it if it gets blocked. the way they DO teach the ippon to lower belts is to basicly do ippon with poor technique... as it let the opponent roll off your shoulder instead of over your shoulder.... do you believe this is right? should it be done this way? should it not?

On The Ground
boyo1991 replied to sensei8's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
hmmmmmm thats an interesting question.. my question tho is what kind of fight is it? is it pure grappling? or is there striking involved? cuz if your taller, my guess is reach would play a factor in striking... but as for the throw, the only way it would really matter in my opinion if your bigger or not is if hes like 4' and your like 6'6" cuz the difference is much greater, it will be even easier for you to take him to the ground... take this example.... say your play fighting with a young child of like 6 years old lets say... they are easier to put to the ground.. you have advantage... they would need to learn technique to have even a shared advantage... but once your on the ground... its all about technique... IN MY OPINION. -
I'm not sure how Judo is less violent. Thowing someone into the concrete on their head sounds pretty violent to me. Actually, claiming that any Martial Art is not violent is kind of counter-intuitive, don't you think? lol as i said.. im not saying its not violent... per say... its less violent than traditional jujitsu yes but still lol.. its name is the gentle way because as i said it can take so little effort.. and a "gentle" nudge to get the job done but yes it kinda sounds counter intuitive dont it lol.

there was breaking in the tests... at higher levels... like purple and above. the sparring was pretty well out of question as for the testing.. and yah.. not selling the school well.. cuz well.. i dont suggest the school to anyone and as previously stated.. i dont go there no more haha thx tho.. i realize that the school i went to sucked worse than i expected LOL appreciate the input

well it was a sad day for the art because he was looking rough as it were... like as in drug up rough. not to mention his judo skills looked terrible.. looked like he had no idea what he was doing (not seriously but he did look aweful) it was sad but still usable as a learning experience.
-
im not saying there wasnt any sparring like whatsoever.. just.. not for testing.. i guess i should have clarified what i meant by "basicly any sparring" lol but yah no sparring for tests.. i mean im not sure abt many other martial arts but ik in judo you can test with techniques in randori so yah... i dont see why it would b any different...
-
well judo directly translated means "the gentle way" the reason for this is not that it is "gentle" but that it takes gentle touches to get the job done.... there are various throws that take so little effort its crazy. at least. when done correctly. its actually really easy to do. and tbh, i can tell ur a bjj guy cuz u dont want to even explore judo eventually i plan on going to my local bjj place as well.. to see how it is for me.. but i really like judo.

i eventually found one... and yes... he did... sad day for judo lol

hey guys is this normal? when i was in my TKD days (not to say i dont still train them i just dont go to class no more for it.) i had very easy belt tests... the classes WERE under 18. so i was assuming that was why. nobody under 18 could get theyre black belts.. i recieved my pre black belt by doing a small kata with a tornado/360 roundhouse on the end. i basicly didnt do any sparring.. not to mention... i was in this school for only like a year and a half. and recieved my pre black... is this normal? (for a mcdojo ) IT WAS NOT ATA

Judo test
boyo1991 replied to datguy's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Demonstrating techniques and randori, typically. Many Judo dojo have test curriculum and you can ask what techniques they will focus on for your test, but others focus primarily on randori and shiai--I know my last Judo instructor based promotions almost solely on how you do in competition. i agree.. however.. i will give what MY dojo does. in the lower ranks... white through orange belt tests.. consist of just the technique itself.. whether you can actually do the the technique... above that (so i am told i only recently started at this dojo) consists of randori and technique. -
well if ur planning on doing jujitsu... take judo instead lol. no for real tho honestly, judo is a much easier and less... violent version of jujitsu... the gentle way is much easier, and when its simplified, you can focus on execution. i dont know anything about arnis, sooo im not getting into that lol.

actually. i just started in judo.. when i was younger i was in TKD... very much a mcdojo so i dont even know if u want to consider me going.. but i do still know and remember the things i did there... my pre black belt test was a small kata with a tornado kick/360 roundhouse at the end lol im loving judo MUCH more than TKD... i love the cooperation it has attached with it... i am a white belt still but since i still remember falls from TKD and they saw my desire to know more... or at least thats what im guessing.... they are letting me go to the advanced classes... im very excited to b back because last time i was here i was younger, immature and henceforth... dang mcdojos.. lol im 19. 20 in october.. thx for the warm welcome lol

-
wow haha.. well.. its kinda like 1 and four.. haha.. i actually ENCOURAGE anyone that ever wants (i dont really care if you do or not) to follow me to acually not do the same thing as me.. its made with a basis and really lets ppl just choose their own path ya know? and for 4: my instructor is always different.. as in i dont have a set dojo.. its ppl i know.. sometimes a dojo.. sometimes youtube... yada..

i made a style... it impliments a lot of bruce lee ideas lol.. anyways.. it has a lot of kicks and is made for versatility but also grace and the way it looks.. its basicly MMA.. but a style of it... it uses bruce lees circular blocking because i have a lot of cardio so i can stand losing a bit of energy for that less lethal blow.. plus it helps lead into awesome and amazing counters... what do you think?
-
heh thx... i feel like such a noob again
-
hey there... ive been down this road before... after doing TKD for a veery long time (im 18 now... 12 years is a long time lol..) quite a bit of experience in boxing.. and a little experience in wrestling/ground game in general.. judo... ect.. i took a journey to korea a year and a half ago.. i came back and basicly just stoped practicing... i guess it was cuz i was getting bored of the same thing... well im back... why? ive decided to make my own style of MA/MMA really... its called TaeBoJitDo... it uses Bruce Lees idea of "wax on, wax off" blocking.. because its very little effort for how accurate it is... yes one can say that there are more ways with less energy, but not as accurate it will hurt you a little... circular takes a bit more, but we want to focus on cardio so it will help a lot anyways.. stretching is a spiritual aspect.. its "preparing for battle" meditation.. we meditate while stretching.. none of that sensai yelling out "OOOOnnnnne... Twooooo, threee......." for stretches.. take as long as its needed to get your mind centered.. im kinda rambling on more about my new style of MA/MMA anyways... hi, tell me what you think of my new style too btw.. thx

martial arts in publi schools could it work?
boyo1991 replied to RDsynMBZ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
only problem i see is getting the teachers to actually get involved... to teach in a public school you need a specific license... that and of course belts... around your.. waste.. lol, me, i prefer to make up my own and train with many ppl and let EVERYONE be the master and we all learn from eachother, not a teacher/sensai.. however if in a classroom setting, if i were the sensai, i would be just as any other student.. exept when just starting out.. the most to do would be leading stretches and teaching the basics.. then they go to work! haha -
oh i thought i already replied to this lol soz: korea was amazing, i used like all my savings on the trip, but man i loved it and it was worth it.. i felt like ppl were looking at me as i was in my red belt lol
