How often should I train?
LeaF replied to kirby05's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I find through my expirence that by training the next day after and injury occurs I actually feel better. By training your heart beat increases (or at least on would hope so ) This helps circulate oxygen to your injuried part of your body thus helping it heal quicker and relax the injury.(Perhaps KickChick can tell us if there is any truth behind my statement ) Frankly I believe the people that train when they are not in the mood to train show great dedication and commitment. I know some days I get up and don't want to train but these are usally the days when training is most immportant. It is far too easy in today's society to just sit down and watch that oh so important television show, or have a couple beers with some friends. It is the people that are truely dedicated to their art and self-improvement that will go to class on those days when they really don't want to, this is a great test of your commitment.....in my opinion -
I really enjoyed this kata and I believe it is a great example of Goju ryu karate-do (altough I believe their are variations made in other styles using the same name)....This will be very difficult to learn without proper instruction but here is a page that gives written instruction, that is all I could find http://au.geocities.com/allree2/Kata/Seiunchin/seiunchin.html

Depending on the class will determine its lenght for instance most classes are 1 hour a couple are 2 and a few are 45 mins. Then there is the black belt class which well goes on until they are done.... On average it is 3-4 hours long

What would happen if Bruce Lee was alive today?
LeaF replied to inyctrotter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
ok well he probably would have made more films etc.... But this is what I really want to know... What is the big deal about Bruce Lee. Ok I know he was in amazing shape and came up with JKD but really the only reason so many people know him is because he was in show business, and in my opinion this was a negative for his martial artist status. I hold alot more respect for the masters how humblly lived their lives and didn't show off there talents. Everyone talks like Bruce Lee was The Greatest Martial artist ever, well I am sorry I agree he was an exception master but I do not hold him on the pedistool that so many people today seem too. I know this may be off topic but lets here from some Bruce Lee "groupies" I would like to know why people seem to love him soooo much and how do you feel about him! Personally I think he is overrated...(I am merely expressing my opinion I hope to not stir up too much negativity here) -
What does black-belt mean to you?

How often should I train?
LeaF replied to kirby05's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
your warm up should consist of 3 stages in my mind (I am sure KickChick will have something good to add) 1st stage SHould involve some sort of jumping or some cardio work that gets the blood circulating throughout your body providing oxygen to your limbs. (jump rope could work here. 2nd Stage stretching. Do many stretches to different parts of your body, it is good to do the stretches after your cardio because your musles have lots of oxygen and are more relaxed. 3rd stage. You should do some very light cardio to get blood flowing to the parts of your body you just stretched followed but some deep breathing and mediatation to focus and control your mind. In my opinion this is the perfect warm up although I am sure some will disagree The entire warmup takes 15-20 mins. Then you are ready to train -
Pain, its how you know your alive

I wouldn't let the kids closer to your rank bother you... I am only 16 and I teach adult classes on occasion and they respect me because of my rank and seek my assistance even though most of them are twice my age If you don't make it an issue then it shouldn't be a problem. And if these are older kids don't give them the benefit of a warning, they give you a hard time or don't listen don't be afraid to give them push ups right there on the spot, That'll show them whos the boss

I really enjoyed Lord of the Rings. I read the books and loved the movie... I guess I am a dork

How often should I train?
LeaF replied to kirby05's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
My moto is train untill it hurts, and then train a little more . Train as often as you can and yea mix it up don't just do the same thing over and over because then your other skills will fall behind. -
I wouldn't ever tell my senior about a problem unless it was very very serious... THis shows that you are unprepared to handle the situations that can occur. Don't take any slack from the young kids cause they will never take you seriously...I find it is best to be strick with them at first and then once they get to know how you work a little better and realize that you are in charge you can joke around with them and have a good time. If a child is bad then I get them to stay behind after class (which doesn't make them too happy because all the buddies are going home.) and I give them a short lecture with a warning to start behaving.... If this continues to hapy I just skip the lecture and get them to do the appropriate amount of push ups. This is just how I work others may disagree

Great Job Looks great I am just curious why you moved the weapons forum from styles and arts because weapons training is an art on its own
