Is your do jo hidden from the outside world?
LeaF replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
The front of my dojo as large windows, but this is more of a seating reception area, the actual dojo is hidden in the room behind. I like this concept because the office reception area is very welcoming but you still have your privacy because you can't see the training area from the front. -
How do you accomodate new bees?
LeaF replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
For the adults there are beginner classes to help intergrate them into the school. As for the children they are taken of to the side with an assistant while the class is going on. For the first few classes this will happen, and they will learn all the skills need to become part of the main class -

LeaF replied to superleeds's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
This discusses gets more heated everytime I come in here Martial artist believe it or not I respect your opinion, we have no always agreed in the past but I do repect what you have to say. With that in mind, I am curious to get back to the topic at hand and forget all this master business... I do agree with you when you said I do believe the application is more important then what it is called, and there is not point wasting time arguing what this is called and how to pronounce that. But in modern times, many many more styles are emerging and I think the movments muct be catalogued to a certain point, to keep everything organized and easier to learn, I am oepn to hear an alternative method you may have to keep everything organized? But I do believe that the application must not be forgotin during the catagorizing of the movements. Now to your statement about religion. Perhaps my message was poorly conveyed. I do think we are saying more or less the same thing. The martial arts do complement religion as you said and I agree with this, but if you only focus on the physical how will your training complement your beliefs. I never said training was a supplement, it is not but you must agree that if you do not put any effort into cultivating the mental aspects the martial arts offer, then you will not see much benfit in your faith and your training will not complement your beliefs as well as they could (rather difficult for me to say I hope you understand what I mean ). This was in response to the little story I posted. I did not mean for it to be taken as truth... I was trying to show everyone what someone who was greatly respected in the goju community wrote about the subject at hand. I am sure you could find other people who could disagree with this.... I was just offering the opinion of someone who I concider very wise, thats all And for the record I live in Toronto Canada. I feel confident walking down my streets in relative safety. And I did not appriecate you calling me ignorant about the people around me. Just like you said to kensai, you don't know me, you don't know what I can do, you don't know where I walk and what I see. In fact I have avoided many encounters by being aware of the people around me. I do not know where you live but unless you live somewhere like Isreal, you must agree that the society we live in today is much more stable then that of 16th century war ridden Japan. Cheers -

I have a definition/title/phrase that I wouldn't mind knowing the meaning of. I was reminded about this by kyle-san. What exactly does san mean. When I was younger my sensei used to use san after my name all the time, he doesn't do it anymore though, just curious what exactly it means or refers to? Thanks alot LeaF

BRUCE LEE: Was he all that he was cracked up to be?
LeaF replied to sk0t's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I did look at the site rising dragon.... I accept the fact that he was an exceptional person and fighter, I am not arguing that but when you said this... that implies to me that you believe he is the be all and end all of martial artists, and he isn't. The feats he accomplished are beyond what most people could ever do, but (back to your quote) other martial artists have done things even bruce could not do, and the cycle will continue. This is why I reffered to your post as uneducated, but I am glad we have cleared everything up, have a good day Thank You LeaF -
I favorite game without a doubt is halo for the xbox.

This is incorrect, Goju literally means hard, soft. Both the hard and soft characteristics are present inpretty much everything that is done, you will see this more once you learn some of the more advanced katas Eye. I do also believe that speed and technique are just as present as strenght and conditioning, it is all about balence

BRUCE LEE: Was he all that he was cracked up to be?
LeaF replied to sk0t's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ummm.. THis would be completely and utterly incorrect. I give the man creadit he was an excellent fighter, but there have been greater feats then this throughout history. Perhaps the reason noone else broke a punching bag was because punching bags were not around in the 16th century. One perticular martial artist (can't remember his name at the moment) tore tree bark of a huge live tree with his bare hands. I would like to see bruce try this. Ma of the old have broken metal beams with their hands, snapped thick bamboo... etc, etc... I think you post altough it is only your opinion is filled with the most uneducated things I've ever heard in my life. Perhaps you should reserach some other martial artists, becuase then you would realize that bruce lee did not reach some peak never travelled before. And as for spiritual, I definitly think he was no where near the top. He was way to arrogent and always after attention. I will explain further later, gotta go to church now...
