Great Job MonkeyGirl you deserve it

lol then eye says I guess your warning was not acknowledged. The low stances offer great support, you will never knock someone over who is in a good zankutsu dachi. They have their faults just like high stances, that is why a combination of both is so important You make me laugh Eye, keep it up

Martial artist I have a story for you which was written by one of this centuries greatest martial artists, O'Sensei Richard Kim.... A cat and a fox were exchanging views upon the difficulties of living in peace and safety from those who were ever ready to take their lives "I do not care a jot for any of them" said the fox at last. "Things may be very bad, as you say, but I have a thousand tricks to show my enimies before they can do me any harm." "You are fortunate," replied the cat, "For my part, I have only one trick which I learned well, and if that fails all is lost." "I am sorry for you with all my heart," said the fox. "If it was not so hard to tell a friend from a foe in these difficult times, I would show you one or two of my tricks." Hardly had he finished speaking, when a pack of hounds burst suddenly upon them. The cat, resorting to her single trick, ran up a tree into the security of the topmost branches. The fox, unable to make up his mind which of the thousand tricks he would adopt, was torn to pieces before he could put even one of them into operation. -

I agree with you completely Kensai. It is a common misconception that the martial arts are just about fighting. Perhaps in feudel Japan "Martial Artist's" statement would hold more truth. But in todays Society you can walk down you street(I suppose this depends on what street you live on ) and not have to worry about someone chopping you head off your statment loses truth martial artist. The martial arts have developed into a system meant to develop the mind, body and soul and unite them into one. Without one you will NEVER be as good as you can be and there will ALWAYS be a void in your life, whether you realize it or not. The ultimate goal of Karate-do is perfection of the character of it's participants. It is NOT to go out and win all the tounaments, or to kick the **** out of everyone you see. Perhaps the beginer will join karate to learn how to defend oneself, but I pity the student who has trainned for several years and is still there just to learn how to fight.... -
I am all for a martial arts channel, I would get it Thanks for the article karatekid

BRUCE LEE: Was he all that he was cracked up to be?
LeaF replied to sk0t's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There is little honour in war..... -
This topic keeps comming up again and again.... Anyway my stand on it is that fighter is what matters not the art as much. The main arguement it seems that people have saying that art is more important then style appears to be.... If 2 people train exactly the same and study two different styles who will win. Well it is true that not all styles are created equal, I acknowledge that BUT Not all people are created equal either. In 99.9% of situations the fight is determined by the person not the style. I say this because it is almost imposable to find two people that have the exact same talents /abilities want it just as bad as the other person, and train for exactly the same period of time and then when this happens 0.1% of the time, Then and only then will the actual style of the person make the difference. Thank you

BRUCE LEE: Was he all that he was cracked up to be?

Not bad but you appeared to miss to very important points.... Ok so musashi enters kyoto wanting to make a name for him self... So he finds the Yoshioka family (The Yoshioka family served as the trainers to Shogun Ashikaga for generations). First Seijiro, the head of the family challenges Musashi to a dual. The dual takes place in an isolated area outside the city. Seijiro draws a katana, and Musashi is only armed with a bokken. Musashi's fierce attack makes Seijiro fall to the ground. Out of shame Seijiro cuts off his topknot and it is said he never taught the sword again. Seijiro's brother Genzaemon soon challenges Musashi to a dual. Musashi accepts the dual but doesn't show up after two hours of waiting. A messenger is sent to find Musashi. He was found sleeping in an inn. Musashi apologises and says he will arrive soon. After another couple hour Musashi arrives. Musashi defeats Genzamon easily with his bokken. It is said that Genzamon becomes a priest giving up the way of the sword. Next to dual Musashi is Denshichiro, Genzaemon's younger brother. This dual takes place in Sanjusangendo Temple. Musashi again come late, but this time when Musashi attacks with the bokken he kills Denshichiro. Now comes Hanshichiro. He is very very angry because this great figther has emmbrassed his entire family with his great skill. Hanshichiro arrives with many of the senior members with intentions of killing musashi. Now you said it yourself Hanshichiro wanted to kill musashi and was prepared to die trying. Musahsi expected this though and was prepare. So he hid and ended up defeating the very large party of men. As you can see musashi lived in very different times then we do today or mr. lee ever lived in. In fuedel Japan it was survival of the fitest. People were killed every day, and if they lived someone died in their place. Musashi had to be an amazing fighter, master stratigest, and brillent man to be able to survive as long as he did in the grim world he was born into. Mr. lee never had to deal with such a life, and never had such an expirence. I did not say Bruce did not contribute to the arts, I just said he cannot be compared to the great masters of old. Footwork has Always been an important part of the martial arts, period. Whether it is the deep shotokan stances, or the graceful tai chi steps. I do not believe Bruce lee is responsible for "reinventing" footwork. What are you talking about..... You can not compare terriosts to Musashi. Hanshichiro came to kill musashi, how many kids do you know who try to kill terriosts. Terriosts pray on the inicent, unprepared, weak. Musashi had arranged a duel with him, which was very normal at that time. He was by no means weak, he came with several armored men, and musashi used genius tactics to defeat all of them. So your statement holds absolutly no truth. And by the way Hanshichiro was not as young and inicent as everyone is making him out to be he was around 14, and was prepared to die, he came looking for a fight, he was NOT a victim of terriorism. -
I believe in Goju the title master is given to anyone who recieves their 8,9, or 10th dan. By that point in time I think they deserve that rank because it takes a life time to get that far

Welcome to the boards

This may seem like a pretty basic question but does anyone know where to download cool screen savers, I hate the ones I have now

I use both my legs equally, although my right is better but I am working on that. It is good to become used to have either one of your legs forward becuase you never know the situations you may be placed in.

BRUCE LEE: Was he all that he was cracked up to be?
LeaF replied to sk0t's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Are you crazy. You cannot even compare Bruce Lee to people like Miyamoto Mushashi. He was by no means a serial killer, all the duels where acceptedd by both parties, or they would not be duels. And yes I have read the book of five rings and Musashi is by no means a pyshopath. He used his mind and skill to defeat many oppenants. And if you know anything you would know that many a time he would beat famous martial artists with nothing by a bokken (wooden sword) against a sharp katana, so don't even say he didn't know how to fight fair. He may have used some little tricks but they were used only when needed, one such incident is below. Mussashi a psychopath, I think not, perhaps genius is a better term! Sasaki Kojiro was one of the greatest fencers in his time, and the most famous in southern Japan. He was known not only for his fencing abilities but also for his generous personality. At that time Sasaki Kojiro was 40 years old and the creator of Ganryu Ryu. On the day of the dual Kojiro arrives on time armed with an extra long katana made by the famous sword smith Nagamitsu of Bizen. Since Musashi is not there Sado sends his officials to get him, by this time the water was filled with boats full of spectators. Sado's officials find Musashi asleep in bed. Musashi gets up and drinks the water they brought him to wash in. Musashi heads straight for the boat that awaits him. On the ride to the island Musashi carves a wooden sword from an extra oar. When Musashi arrives at the island he is two hours late he rushes out of the boat with his wooden oar and rushes through the waves to the beach where Kojiro awaits him. As the meet Kojiro draws his sword and throws his sheath away. Musashi smiles and says, Sasaki you have sealed your doom...What victor on earth would ever abandon his sheath to the sea?Kojiro attacks and cuts the headband off Musashi's head, but Musashi's attack with the wooden oar and kills Kojiro. Musashi bows and runs to the boat. According to Eiji Yoshikawa's classic novel, Musashi, Musashi felt a spiritual awakening. For the first time in his life, a tear had been shed for a fallen enemy. A possible reason on why Musashi was late for the dual was a time-delay strategy. He might have thought that Kojiro's people would kill him after the dual. He knew that the more he delayed more and more spectators would go to the place of the dual. Therefore making it easy for him to disappear into the crowd after the dual. And that happened. -
I agree with sai, never pace yourself ever!! When an instructor sees that you are "pacing" yourself he will work you harder and harder becuase to him you are not working hard enough. Just go nuts all the way through and don't worry about getting tired, good luck tomorrow

Would it be imposible for sai to be both the singular and plural tense (this was what I always thought), just like sheep

No doubt in my mind that I would call an Amublence. Even if some dude threatened my life I would not want to see someone suffer on the street when they could be helped.... and you can't sue them when their dead
