  1. Hello, For each person, we all have a flavoriate kick that works very well for most situtions. (All kicks to be effective need to be set up to work). At the same time....the kick you may use it because the opponent give you an opening..where ever that might be...and the kick could be anyone of the choices to use. The tarket that becomes available will mostly cause you to use those kicks of choices. If you watch alot of MMA, the kicks most guys like to use is a form of round house to legs or head. Front kicks seem to be use to push the other person away. (for me that is what I see..I need glasses too). The side kick seems to be a powerful kick...yet it does not seem to cause a lot of damages in a real fight...maybe because the other person reacts like a shock asborber or is moving back. Bottom line....what ever kick you use? ...if it works....than that is the best kick. (on another day...it could be a different kick). NO fights will be the same...Choice of weapons (hands/foot/elbows/knees/others).....needs to be set-up or somehow an opening is there! PS: Best to fight with the hands up and the legs down.....Aloha
  2. Hello, Bruce Lee not only lift weights, but later in life he was training about 8 hours a day. He once said he did not want to live long because the training was long and never ending. If Bruce Lee was still alive and an older man...it would be interesting on his thoughts on training and the martial arts for an older person. Like many masters before him and now....there thoughts and theories do change with time.... Weight lifting does improve everyones strenght. Just make sure you have the proper guidences' and the right foods too!
  3. Hello, Gi's are all not the same. The material it is made from can very. Canvas is very strong and heavy (but comes in differents weights too). The more expensive Gi's are ususally better quality canvas an/or other materials. (cotton). Alot of light weights..usually do not last long too. Maybe you will want to try the MEDUIM weights uniforms. (Always stay with a name brand). Have any of you try the TOKAIDO uniforms? I have been using Macho uniforms and like them very much (MED) cotton. (All black) They are many colors to choose from today, before it was just Black or white. Many karate have different colors tops and bottoms. (they say for katas' it, if using black and white...stay with a WHITE top and Black bottoms, the other way around does not look as good in forms. Tokaido...one day...may get one or two? Have you seen the breathable ones too? ...Aloha
  4. Hello, Learning to take hits will prevent you from being surprise in a real fight. (Getting a strike to the body or head). Hard body contacts will prepare you for that time! Over doing is not good too. How prepare you want to be? those people who spar and accidently get a power hit...starts to complain..do not realize in a real fight...it doesn't stop if you are hurt. The attacker will love to see you giving up, and not fighting back. There is a place and time for hard hitting....make sure it is safe too!....Aloha
  5. Hello, Stejitu, Thank-you for sharing that video. Wow is all I can say here.....that is a tough training.........Aloha
  6. Hello, Xepher...How did you do in your tournment! Please let us know what has work for you! Hope things went well.................Aloha
  7. Hello, To Hammer (Thank-you for sharing that Muay Tai against Tae Kwon Do), fighting. The fight (video) shows how throwing kicks will get you in more trouble, against a train Muay tai fighters. The Korean arts are known for there spinning back kicks and mulitple style of kicking. My flavoriate is the spinning back kick too. Kicks can be effective and can also be grab just as easy. Punches are harder to grab................Aloha
  8. Hello, Many years ago (70's) . Tang Soo Do was one of my first martial art class's. Train with them for less than a year. The guy that fought Bruce Lee in "Enter the Dragon". The tall guy with the scar....was a friend of my Tang Soo Do Instrutor and came by to say hello to him and the class. That person also train in Tang Soo Do. Everyone knows this is what Chuck Norris train in Korea. One remembers the training as hard and very good art to learn. Tang Soo Do is still an excellant art to learn......Aloha
  9. Hello, Kyokushin , I believe was started by Mas Oyama. (FOR ELKY) Mas Oyama was one of the toughtest Karate's experts. His Kyokushin has a 100 men test (you have to fight 50 fighers in one day and the next day another 50 men, all black belts. Mas Oyama fought 100 in a day, only a few men can claim this honor. You may call it sloppy...They train full contact and there tournments are full contact with many knock outs. (you have to see them). There school is known for producing only tough fighters. You would not want to fight them. Most fights are sloppy and anything goes....NO such things as a neat fight! Mas Oyama has killed Bulls with his hands...(on camera). There are many information and videos about Mas Oyama and his karate style of call: Kyokushin karate. (just search). Mr Elky...do not underestimate Kyokushin karate....it may seem sloppy to you...in class...but on the streets....some of the toughest karate around. Just my thoughts here and opinion...........Aloha
  10. Hello, Good article , NIGHT OWL...I just finish reading a book about a Japanese puppet master...and they do dress in all black. The audience is suppose to not see these men. Some puppets require more than one person to operate. In the book (fable)...the puppet masters were (Ninji's) stealing from the rich and giving to the poor (like Robin Hood). I try finding the book....must have misplaced it.....Oh well ...Aloha PS: Thank-you for your insights
  11. Hello, You may want to check out some Kenpo/Kempo schools nearby! You may like there training and style of fightining. .........Aloha
  12. Hello, Kante....I love Shotokan Karate...I always believe this is for me and for life. (My Sensi quit training and no other school was nearby). Then a Kempo school started up..my son and I sign up as white belts...NO reqrets. Now Kempo is my style and my new love. It taught us another way to train and fight. Today as an assistant Instructor in Kempo....I still share things from our Shotokan training. Hopefully you too will get to try other martial arts? Do not limit yourself...you may also want to look into JUDO! Great stuff to learn. Today no one art is perfect....but can improve your knowledge and training, doing other martial arts. ( In the process you will make many new friends.) One art maybe enough....at the same time you will want to know what others are learning. limit your knowledge will limit your skills....be UNLIMITED! ....Aloha PS: Start you own library and video collection on all martial arts...READ and study as much as you can.
  13. Hello, One more thing to add with all the great info's. Most of your tarkets in a fight will be moving in many directions. Speed helps..but accuracy is more important (timing). You can be twice as fast as the other person. But if the guys connects to you...? Speed plus strenght: equals an explosive power! Accuracy = the difference between winning and losing. No mather how fast you read this....the power will remine the same...but the point will be on tarket...therefore accurate. ....HUH? Aloha
  14. Hello, Many schools have some kind of contact in there training. This school is very hard core. The idea is to develop the body for increase pain threshold. LIke in boxing it takes a few months before most of the people feel NO pain or very little pain. Hitting also makes the body tougher. Have you seen guys with purple color shins? Look's bad...and you do not want to get kick by them.(Like an iron pipe). Most karate schools that do not allow alot of hard hitting or contact...many of there students (when on the street fights) are shock when the get hit! and are not use to being hit that hard. Keep in mind...a person body cannot endure lots of punishment...when you get older...you will pay for the injuries and lots of pain in the joints too These guys in the videos...they are tough! ...Aloha
  15. Hello, Most likely they still exist...like many other martial arts that are kept in the families or clan. (will most likely never been known). We will never know of those who keeps it secret. In the USA...there are many ninja schools. I think there is someone name Hayes that is a ninja and teaches his style of ninja. Most labor unions claims to have no GOON squads? (the guys that do the dirty work for them) do not exist! Yet....many people are quietly gone or lots of harassment. (Here in Hawaii-there is...just hard to prove.) The air condition labor union. Ninja do exist...most rather be quiet.....shhhhhhhhh.........Aloha PS: Ninja's : Came from the Japanese. (hire spys and assassin's)
  16. Hello, From what I understand...you can carry a long stick (bo) in most states. A spear may give you some trouble if caught carrying it around. There are alot of older folks who goes walking, carrying a golf club...this works for keeping possible trouble makers away. So if you need to carry something for protection? Golf clubs...legal everywhere in America. (Not on a plane or in the airports). I like the the 8 iron! for balls? bright ones! (If you bowl?..carry a pin? ) If you carry a bat? ..just make sure you have a glove and a ball too..this way if you go to court...you will look more innocent! For spearfisherman ....if you live near the ocean....most likely you can carry them spears around without to much troubles...BUT if you use it to spear someone? ....this could be a different story. Here in Hawaii for Ulua fishing we use 9oz lead weigths...carry these in you pockets for throwing objects...would hurt you, and not against the law. Jump ropes are legal to carry anywhere too? ...whose says it cannot be made of chains, heavy ropes, or whip (there could be a law on carry chains). spear or bo ........the weight and size of a bo ( I believe NO laws on carrying). Spears? ....maybe treated differently......Aloha PS: It is the person who knows how to use the tools (spear or bo)...can cause a lot of damages...
  17. Hello, The Gracie's systems and the Grace's family of fighters....are some the best in the world. This Kempoist Instructor sure learn his system does not work for this style of fighting. Everyone knows once someone takes you to the ground..it is because they got you off balance and now has the advantages over you. ============================================== Anytime you feel you need to challenge someone...it is because you have not grown up enough. This guy wanted to brag how good he is as a kenpo stylist. The Kenpo guy was beaten twice...and if they fought to the death...the kenpo guy would have been choke out. =============== Remember it is not only the style of fighting you train in..but also your mental mind that needs to be sharp and strong. Gracies were smarter to fight there fight and not the kenpoist style. To me the Kenpo Instructor is inmature and has a learn a valueable lesson maybe? ........Aloha PS:The Kenpo guy needs more learning......and training!
  18. Hello, All of us get sore muscles from not using them. It will take a few days for it to heal. Best thing is rest. As time goes on...keep doing those excerise that hurt your legs...each time it will be better than before. This is common for beginners and guys who never push themselvesl before. Mortain is good for injuries and sore muscles...........Aloha
  19. Hello, Karate has been proven to work on the streets for self-defense. Is it the best way to fight? ...maybe, maybe NOT. You have notice there are other ways to learn fighting. It is best to watch as many different types of fighting, watch what most of them do? ....the stances, forms, the way they throw strikes (punches, kicks, elbow, and so on). Plus where many people like to tarket! Many fighters stand like boxer (why? ...proven to be effective for movements). Low stances is harder to move...but very strong position. (there will always be a happy medium. JUDO may not seem to you an effective art? ...but once you try it! you will be surprise how it can make you a better martial artist. It is good you are looking at other styles and systems...each one can teach you a new thing and other ways of looking at how you fight! .......Aloha
  20. Hello, Have you read: Speed training, by Loren Christensen? ...there are also many other books/articles on speed hitting! Many require for you to do some fast and faster type of drills. Building proper muscles helps alot on this too. Most will say...to gain speed..the muscles must be relax before impact. For more power, which comes from the hips, upper shoulders and lifting off on the foot, and a direct line. How fast will you need to be? ...just enough to beat the other guy to it. Sucker punches do not have to be fast...just a surprise! Many of us will also mention proper breathing too...when to exhale and inhale (air). There are proper mechanics to every movements...study this well and work to perfect it. A smart fighter (knows when and where to hit)..does not need super speed. Speed is not always the answer in fight. If I step on your toes and keep my feet there and push you down...you will break your ankle and fight is over! Remember there are speed limits (on most highways) obey the laws...Speed can kill too! PS: A faster runner...will out run you....NO matter how fast you can punch!
  21. Hello, I glad I am NOT ADDICTED? ...Only got 62% whew! OH NO! Am I hook here? One finds we can share our thoughs with others....many are unknown other than by a user NAME. Mankind needs expressions...need attention...and need the internet too! Years ago it was listening to the talk radio programs for our past time...then telephones were the way can communicate to others (one at a time). Today we can share information and converstions with thousands and thousands of people from around the world. One day with other Planets and solar systems..(Can't wait!). Most likely in the near future? We will have live cameras on our computors and we do not need to type the words ( and outer space languages). The internet will be changing in the future to OUTERNET? We all are enjoying the time spent on the web sites.....WE NEED ATTENTION AND ....time.........Aloha
  22. Hello, These people were brave and stay and fought as a group. United we stand..divided we fall. There was several families attack by some young people (teens and young adults). Yet each one was did't resist. So the campers were beaten up. But as a group...they did not get together to form as a unit. The kids went camp to camp. (NO one want to help the next campers.) It is amazing how one person can control a group? If threaten by that one person. United you stand strong! At 70 years old? ....What a brave guy and it shows anyone can applies a choke hold too. In Hawaii the word : OHANA means family (related or NOT) anyone can be a part of your OHANA! We all must become a OHANA...to be united and protect ourselves....Aloha: You are welcome to be a part of my OHANA!
  23. Hello, This does happen once and awhile. You get a student..that somehow does not fit well. Thinks they are something. Disrepectfully to all. They have a choice to sign up for your class. They also have the choice to quit anytime. AT the same tiime: You as head of the school have the choice who you want to train. Be strong here, humble, and firm...about why you think they should go else where (BE HONEST HERE). Give suggestions on other possilble martial art classes. Your other students are been affect by this Negative person....you need to remove the problem before it spreads. It is rest of the class that is more important here. Be polite...let that person know WHY? you feel they can NO LONGER train with you! I'm sure they know...they don't fit well too! ...Aloha
  24. Hello, The post above me mention something many people are starting to find out about. Core: Core training, the center part of our body (between our necks and legs.). By developing the core...your whole body will become stronger...and the parts will work more for you. Look up on SEARCH (Core training).....you will be impress by there excercise progroms. At our Kempo system it become a part of our physcial training progrom. Normal Full push-ups.....not many can do a hundred...BUT if you can? ...you will be better than most...........Aloha
  25. Hello, Basic Psychology 101. The best way to tell : WHAT KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE? Simple: Just look who are your best friends are? and who you hang around the most! Mostly likely you are just like them!!!!!! If they are hard working, honest, sincere, helpful, kind people...may guess is, so are you! If they lie, cheat, steal,do bad drugs..gets drunk all the time...so are you becoming that way. ============================================== Knowing this...and Most parents know this too...that is why they are sometimes concern who you are going out with! ============================================== Stay with good people...most likely you will have a good life....stay with the wrong people.....(aleast you will have friends in Jail too). What kind of a person you are? .....simple just look at the people you are around all the time! ..........Aloha PS: NO wonder I gain weight...everyone like go eat! All the time too!
