I like to use the rope nunchucks. I take some petroleum jelly and "pack" it into the cords around where they enter/exit the wooden handle so that there is less friction between the cords and handles (it is sort of like packing wheel bearings, but a little different) I haven't had a cord break yet, but then I have only used them moderately. I would definitely suggest practicing with them outside (so you don't break stuff in the house, if you're at home) and on the grass so that they aren't damaged when they come flying out of your hands, which they will do as you are learning to use them. Welcome! I have found these forms to be very informative and are populated by some pretty cool folks. Ed

I guess most of the talk in this thread revolves around the NFL. Being from Alabama all sports take a back seat to college football (I'm an Auburn fan/grad...War Eagle!). Anyhow, I am looking forward to football season and am wondering how the Saints will play this year. Ed

Man, all these replies are good. Comparing oneself to others for self improvement purposes is fine, but comparing oneself to others in order to confirm or reaffirm one's belief that he or she is a victim of some kind....not so good. Ed

I have found that mine just soften up with regular use, over time. Ed

Someone has the sig. line that says something like the following: "In the presence of death is the way of the warrior realized." I looked around for it but couldn't find it. I really like this is an insightful sig. line. Ed

I was hoping Diego Sanchez would win also. Both the guys I was pulling for lost. Hmmmm..... If I was a gambling man..... Ed

Sprinting should help build leg strength. I am a distance runner so I can't recommend any specific sprinting routine though I am sure there are folks on this forum that can. Perhaps jumping rope might help, too.... just and idea. Ed

I use Craigslist to look for old, classic, British cars. It's a good source for finding them. Ed

I am "29% addicted". I thought it was going to be a little higher than this. Ed

This is kind of a funny thread to read, they way it has gone back and forth. Anyhow, bushido_man96, what you call a "reverse" kick I have always called a "spinning" kick, both in TSD and TKD. Funny how the terminology can vary. I do understand your definitions, though. I agree with Ottman. That being said, thinking of a kick that I like to thrown I am torn between the simple ol' side kick and a spinning (reverse is one uses bushido_man96's definition) back kick.Ed

I have a Century heavyweight 12oz canvas uniform. I like it and don't have any wrinkle issues with it. I have seen the Tokaido Uniforms but haven't seen Kamikaze brand. I will have to look them up. Congratulations on the new uniform, blackxpress Ed

I was impressed with GSP during an interview before his last fight with Serra. He wasn't full of all that UFC trash talk. He seems like a REAL professional. Too bad he lost to Serra last Saturday. Hopefully, he will bounce right back. Ed

Love the signature line! Ed

bushido_man96, I know your style very well. We have some stout fellows in my school and if they move in close they can hammer us smaller guys with punches. Only problem is I like to get in close when I spar, ergo, I have been hammered by a lot of punches! Topic related content: When I was of a lower rank I used to enjoy goading people into sidestepping so as to be partially facing my back and then hit 'em with a spinning back kick. Doesn't work so well on the experienced upper ranks. Ed

I have been studying Youn Wha Ryu TKD for about 10 years now (though the last 2 years my training has been spotty). During those ten years I have also dabbled in Kuk Sul Won and Karate-do. I trained in TSD for a couple of years way back in the '80s. I still have A LOT to learn. Ed

I studied Karate with a Japanese student here at school for a little while about 1 1/2 years ago. I learned Heian Shodan through Godan (though the last two I had just learned). I failed to write them down and now can only remember bits and pieces of them. Is there any source on the web that has these forms charted out? Thanks, Ed

TKD // TSD
KarateEd replied to stejitsu's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I have trained in both TSD (World Tang Soo Do Association) and TKD (Youn Wha Ryu TKD) and have found that both were rather "traditional." It seems to really depend on the organization. Ed
