I've had quite a few dumb teachers in my educational career. In Ontario it does not seem like a person needs a lot of credentials to be a teacher in a elementary school or a high school - just two teachable subjects. Most of my teachers in high school only had a bachelors degree in something and went on to teachers college which is only 1 year. Anyway education is not a pre-requisite (sp?) for intelligence. A funny time came to mind when I read this thread. I remember when a teacher and I had an arguement regarding whether or not people in India drink cow's milk. I told her that people in India drink cow's milk and its not against any religious guidelines however she wouldn't budge and insisted that she was right even though I told her that my I would know because my parents are from India and I've been there 3 times. Anyway point being is that just because people have pieces of paper framed and on their office or bedroom wall does not neccessarily mean they are very smart. I've met people with Ph'd's whom have absolutely no common sense or communication skills.

Should full-contact Karate be an oylmpic sport?
unknown replied to supacoopatroopa's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Why do you think that? There are way too many kickboxing sanctioning bodies for kickboxing to be in the Olympics. Its the "alphabet soup" as they call it. The IOC actually gave kickboxing a chance to get into the Olympics - The IOC told the ISKA, WPKA, WKA and WAKO to agree upon an unified set of rules and to form one organization. All four sanctioning bodies had a meeting and it did not even last 30 minutes. That and the fact that the WTF paid a whole lotta money to the IOC to get their sport into the Olympics. MAny of the kickboxing sanctioning bodies out there dont have the kind of cash that the WTF paid towards the IOC. -

Looking for info.
unknown replied to Coco's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
BJJ training is based on a lot of repitition of movements on the ground. these repetitive movements are tranistions from different control positions, control positions to submissions, failed submissions to other possible submissions etc. too much to list. -
What came first?

BJJ and Highschool Wrestling
unknown replied to youremean's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
wrestling and submission grappling are two entriely different sports. you could probably use some of the throws - the double leg takedown is a common interchangable technique used. as for being on the ground.....if you are flat on your back in wrestling then you are the loser.....however not all hope is lost if you are flat on your back in grappling. -
I'm not saying that XMA is easy to do - it is mostly gymnastics though. I saw the show on the discovery channel about XMA and I was just dissapointed by the fact that they kinda promote it as a fighting art when obviously it is not.

What do you think about board breaking?
unknown replied to Shorinryu Sensei's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
breaking boards is kinda corny. i don't think it is a viable guage for testing a persons power. a black belt who can break a board with a side kick doesnt necessarily mean that his side kick is extremely powerful or anything....nor do i think that board breaking can help you with your power - mike tyson never broke boards in his training and we all know that being hit by him would feel like being hit by a mack truck. -
XMA is a prime example of how the Western world has completely bastardized the martial arts.

Boxing is extremely underrated because many people don't consider it a martial art. However many fail to realize that a very good boxer would absolutely demolish alot of martial artists out there.

this sounds like the best and most sane way to do it. conditioning your shins to take and give hits is no different the conditioning the rest of your body for the impact you get in kickboxing or muay thai. for example, getting hit in the head or the face: the very first time you take a hard head hit it is a pretty devestating feeling but eventually you get used to it mainly because after you get used to being hit you do not flinch or blink as much because the punches and kicks that you dont see are the ones that hurt the most. now this doesnt mean that in order to get used to being hit in the head that you are gonna take escrima sticks and glass bottles and start hitting your noodle with them...
