  1. yes hwa rang I am WTF..I am certified from the kukkiwon in korea as an instructor.. while we do follow the tae guek patterns..black belts are also required to know the older hyungs as well..chonji..tan gun..to san..won hyo..e.t.c..my master is Atef s Himaya..also under grandmasters moon sung lee and jae hwa kwan..you say from what you have seen kicks arent that effective?? what have you seen?? a couple of sparring matches?? see the reason im asking this is because alot of martial artist form thier opinion of taekwondo from watching some sparring sessions..some exhibition of the sport aspect..and of course I would agree then that this type of fighting would not be effective in a real confrintation..i prefer to say that instead of a "streetfight" because 9 times out of ten a confritation will occur someplace other then the street..but actual "fight training" is very different..its not a game of tag..which although the current olympic style fighting is called full contact its just a tag match with a little more contact..taekwondo is not embodied in these types of matches..its alot deeper then that..unfortunately with the current poularity and the opening up of many schools with non qualified instructors..the true form is becoming watered down..some dojangs only train for the sport and the use of real ..effective self defense ..is not thaught at all... this is were taekwondo suffers...just like anyother martial art..it really depends on the individuals training..i know that "without meaning to sound as if bragging"..I can kick very well and have very powerful kicks..and so do most of the students i train..thats because we still have traditional training..now if you go down a few blocks there is another dojang which has a 32 year old man who claims to be an eight dan.now even if he started training as an infant could he reach this rank at 32..and just imagine the quality of instruction in that school...this "master" sits in his office and has green and blue belts run the class while he i guess counts the money he gets from these kids parents..theres alot of schools like this.and not just taekwondo schools!!!dont want to go off on a tangent here..just making a point that..if you are trained properly..formally..traditionally..by a certified dojang..you will be very effective kicker..especially in a real confrintation..if you just do sport taekwon do..alot of dancing around..hands hanging al the way down to youre sides..trying to clinch..trying very fancy spinning kicks..then you will become a statistic.. and finaly on the note of martial art bashing..which on this particular forum seems to always have taekwondo as the target..its really silly and a waste of time.aks about the art..learn more about it from people who are knowledgeable..to just say"well those kicks dont work" is ignorant..so all of those taekwondoist around the world for thousands of years have it all wrong.and you know better??..learn dont judge and dont bash..of course we are here to express our opinions..however expressing your opinion and straight up talking alot of nothing and then trying to make it sound as if you are an athuority on the subject..its very shallow..and believe me people see right through all that..be productive learn from other styliststop the little kids play."my style is better then yours" it reminds me of two little kids in a playground shouting back and forth..my dad can beat your dad in a fight!!1..lets try to refrain from such futile verbal sparring..and again learn
  2. yes and it looks sooo beautiful when done for demonstrations!!..in the uncontrolled enviroment of a real confrintation things are different...I was an instructor in the military from 1987 to 1990..i teach now and still I say the best defense against a knife is to get out of there.or pick up something as a weapon to keep the knife wielder at bay!!!
  3. its made to look so simple in the movies..guy takes out a knife you just kick it out his hand and save the day...in reality..even a fool with no training can kill you easily..we recently had a muder here in which a trained cop..with a martial arts background..answered a knock on his door and was cowardly ambushed by the jealous ex boyfriend of the woman he was staying with he was stabbed above his left collar bone which struck an artery and he quickly bled out..in the movies he would have just pulled the knife out and fought off the bad guy..the human body is very fragile..a knife wound anywhere can kill you..doesnt just have to be in the torso..you can get stabbed or slashed a leg or arm and bleed to death ..if you can.. get out of there when threatned with a knife..or try to find something to keep the person away..a chair a belt..a garbage can..doesnt matter how long youve been training..in a real situation again even an untrained person can kill you.. _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-06-21 05:47 ]
  4. yes bon ..sorry I had you confused with another friend of mine on here..hey kick chick how are you..i fell like id be wasting my time by this point enlightening another one ever since ive been on here this same thread comes up over and over..the only people who know just how excellent of an art taekwondo is are those of us who practice it dilligently..its mostly a bunch of kids now on here anyway who dont know any better..but wanna talk as if they have sooo much experience..what are you gonna do??
  5. thank you bon..i just talked to a mutal friend of ours raymond a couple of days ago..said alot of good things about you..thats ray who had the kickboxing school in brentwood.talk to you soon brother
  6. iron palm..im an idiot???.ive been in plenty of real fights but am not even goin go into that,,just deal first and foremost with pathetic little punks as you who dont know who there addressing and feel like coming off as an athourity.in martial arts or training or fighting ..please believe that i am one of the last indidviduals you would want to square off with.. little a** holes like you who are ready to baffle all us real martial artist with your wisdom..you make me giggle ..besides all that you insignificant little fool..ive been doing taekwondo for twenty four years and if it was not an effective art i would have left it alone a long time ago..if you ever happen to be in the new york area for example giving one of your sessions or seminars on how it should be done or how much of a formidable fighting style you practice please feel free to contact me so I can accomidate you with multiple contusions or maybe even a trip to the local emergency room..because brother althugh I am a traditional martial artist and do have humility and command much respect and should not even be commenting the way i am..as a matter of fact..ll let this go.just for the fact that youre really not worth the disscusion to begin with..but please in any case let me know..ill be happy to accomadate you..in just how effective taekwondo kicks can be..and also how i deal with people who choose to call me small names as "idiot' id be an idiot not to kick your teeth in for saying it to my face!! and again that would be my pleasure..but then again if you were in the same room with me or knew of me you wouldnt even think of uttering such..im old school baby...and again im sure were all impressed and in awe with your knowledge and insight..and again if youre ever in the area ill let you spar one of my fourteen year old girls..if you can get passed her then I may jump in and smack you just for even more giggles..if you were trying to make an impression it was this.."i will try to sound like I know what im talkin about"..reality is you dont know nada!! please i implore you shut up!!and the same goes for all who think taekwondo..is just "sport"..taekwondo full contact competition sparing is really just the tip of the iceberg..a small part of the art and not "the" art it self.if you dont realy know.if you have questions..then just ask!!il be here for just those types of questions ladies and gent.. as far as going into debates on how taekwon do would fair against kung fu..or jujitsu.or kenpo..or karate..well be here all day long!! while I wont say taekwon do is the best art ever and cannot be defeated..i will say if you know or learn it or master it...its one of the worlds finest arts!!...but so is kung fu,,jujitsu..karate..and i know many beautiful people that have mastered all of these..a martial artist is a martial artist..even boxers i know are incredible and there not even consisdered martial artist!! but get hit by them one time and youll be in a world of pain and recovery!! no matter the style..it al comes down to discipline and character.this is the true essence of a warrior.dedication..and not "talk" as mr iron palm..hairy palm..whatever has choosen to illustrate..we are all "martial artist..respect that..no one style can defeat all which is one of the constant futile debates bought up on this forum again and again,,and for what??my style will beat yours and my hand skills will beat your kicks ..and if i grapple you then your kicks will mean nothing..nananananana.. lets try to grow up here a litle and see we are all connected in the way that we practice a fighting system and although it may not include all aspects of combat..one thing which is mutal in teachings is...respect..humility..honor..and definetly not..flexing..claiming knowledge...and definetly not calling other martial artist names becuase we really know what it is..lern from those who know..want advice on taekwon do ask me??? dont form an opinion on what some of your friends have said..want to learn about kung fu..ask someone who studies it..want to know about kenpo.ask a kenpo stylist..judo..ask that man who grabs a person and throws them to the mat on a daily..but dont ever make the assumption that what i know is law and then even have the audacity to say I know whats best and everyone else should follow my lead,,because there is the "true" idiot..stupid enough to believe that not only does he have all the answers.but to also preach to others on how it should be..omm whos the idiot mr iron? ill let it go because it evident..dont ever try to step to me because i will beat you...verbally..intellectually..spiritually..physically..I am a martial artist..im am a man...a man who is strong and determined with much resolve..and who has respect..and all of that is from my taekwondo training..that has made me the man i am today..and for a boy like you to call me "idiot" is truly a bad judgement and a reflection on just how much knowledege you lack..learn more and one day when youre really a master..you wont have to try so hard to sound like a master..those around you will already know.and stupid words from your mouth wil not be possible...until then please..shut up!! _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 02:43 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 03:14 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 03:26 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 03:35 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 04:54 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 05:32 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 05:44 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-05-26 18:02 ]
  7. I do a combination of al those ..an instructor a good one should be able to switch back and forth like a chameleon ..coach..drill instructor(which i am really referred to as) nice guy..and also after class I am your friend...the prankster..but during class I am mostly buisness
  8. i personally began training in martial arts specifically taekwondo because of watching films of bruce lee..but realistcally time marches on..there are plenty of martial artist who would beat the little dragon now..he was ahead of his time when he was alive..but comparing him to the modern day martial artist would be like comparing joe wieder to the modern day bodybuilder they both where inovators and great in thier time but the world has moved on theres a new level of excellence involved...again i love bruce and have always been a great fan..but the martial arts are different now..they have evolved to a whole new level...he wil always be one of the greats..but not the greatest of al time..that remains to be seen!!
  9. whoa..look at all the naked women..what was i here for again????.....oh yeah a demo..lol...natural to be nervous..just get focused on what you have to do..and youll be fine
  10. you may cross to close the gap and get good range for follow through of the kick..and as for they heel to heel before the launch of a side kick is good when the oppent is a little closer..just use what works for you or what the situation calls for
  11. okay just like i tought..you dont want to piss me off!!
  12. http://www.taekwondo.net..my favorite site..and the best martial arts site out as far as im concerned
  13. make sure you keep up on the ball of your foot on the supporting leg..the spin and speed afterwards will make you go through..no problem..very powerful kick when done properly!!!
  14. kickchick....good insight as far as useless kicks..man am i tired of hearing that from people who dont know...wanna know about plumbing speak to a plumber..wanna know about electric talk to an electrician ..wanna know about kicking?? talk to a taekwondo stylist!!! thats us..kicks r us..and we make our kicks work!!! any one saying different doesnt know jack about taekwondo!!!!or are in deep denial!!! _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-03-15 03:09 ]
  15. i play trumpet..especially spanish style....spanish trumpeteers have always been the best..its in our heratige..have you ever heard some of the current salsa trumpet players??....or cuban or puerto rican.??..its still a very important stlye despite the modern age of synthesised music..they havent invented a keyboard yet that can replicate the sound of a spainish trumpet player..
  16. well i have to say the basic style of taekwon do or hapkido is not to wind up in that postion in the first place..taekwon do being a primary striking art..and hapkido..throws and takedowns and then finishing your oppent afterwards....as far as grappling..this is totally a different art..more so emphassing wrestling or jiu jitsu....once your on the ground its a battle of what skills you have in that type of fighting...doesnt mean that taekwondo has that nor hapkido..its just a different type of fighting...that traditional..taekowndo or hapkido have no dominace in that area..soo if you do for some reason wind up in that perdicament.unless you have experience in grapling or wrestling..your in trouble...i had a jiu jitsu practioner challenge me about two weeks ago..saying if you dont knock me out..he would choke me out no problem once he got me on the floor.. and im sure he would have..so what did i do??..i did not let that happen i round house kicked him in the head and that was that..doesnt mean if he got a hold of me he would not have done as he said..but saying one thing and actually being able to do it dont mean nothing!!.sure if you got me on the ground and i was not trained to fight there i would have been in trouble..but im not your average guy who will just let you throw me onto the ground..im a big guy and i strike very hard..soo if you could get past that then you might have a chance...but at the same time you have to see my mindset..if i hit you..wheter it be a kick or a punch.that is what i train in..and i really hit hard with either or..if you survive that then illl worry about getting on the floor and grappling wih you..other then that im gonna hurt you..
  17. Bruce Lee has not had anything come close even almost thirty years later then the classic "ENTER THE DRAGON"
  18. we bringing the pain kickbutt!!!...get ready..Canada great job team USA!!!..we must now get payback for the womens team loss its gonna be an intense game on sunday
  19. i burn inside to put fear into my opponnets eye that i have trained hard enough..so he has no doubt of the outcome... i burn that he knows ahead of time who is walking away in victory and that he had no choice... i burn that he senses that this was the wrong tiime and the wrong place to be put in front of me i burn that my adversary would be fearful just in my gaze..in my presence that he has not trained enough to face this person.. I burn that he sees im not playing and that he would rather be anywhere else but in the ring with me waiting for me to get at him.. i burn with the small smirk..that i know ..that you know..im coming at you.and that youd rather not be here right now..... i burn with the reasoning that what ive been through in my harsh training that im not letting you take not one minute of that away from me.. i burn..not one drop of blood not one drop of sweat ..not one drop of tears....will be wasted on you standing there in front of me.thinking you have a chance... i burn with my desire to send you home bruised and battered and wondering what must i do..and what happened?? i burn because that is my resolve that you will remember me and say to those who ask you about me..what do you think?? that you would say "thats a hard man" I burn that despite all that you can respect that i am honorable and worthy of facing.. I burn that my name is known to you and that you can not deny that i am most formidable someone to say "watch out now" but at the same time i burn to be said of me.."hes really a nice guy just dont square off with him" i burn with the desire to be a complete martial artist that can make a difference in peoples lives both inside and outside a ring i burn with the desire to be a decent person..a respected person overall.... i burn to love more then hurt..that i can show you my funny and caring side... that i can be considered your friend... I burn that my legacy or reputation is..great guy just dont cross him...... i burn that if you are my friend one of your best.. but i also burn that if you choose to test me i would be the worst enemy you would wish to have.. that is my outlook on the yin and yang of martial arts.. dark or light i can take it to the extreme on anyside.but i prefer being the loving funny guy..and the guy with the sarcastic..overview on every thing but its all in fun..other then that i love you all!! but as a candle i burn on both sides....the quiet guy that all of the sudden is quite loud!!...Javi _____hows that for poetry and martial arts??..lol____________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-20 23:25 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-20 23:36 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-20 23:51 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-21 00:51 ]
  20. well i started about twenty six years ago over a "mama: joke..i could take any Rank out contest and all ..but i was like dont talk about my mama...sooo i got into a fight with the school bully at the time and called him out after school..because he started making jokes about my mother..he didnt show so i took the bus which would drop me off in front of his house..it was funny because when i walked up to his door and rang the bell his mother answered and i said hi im here to see robert as if i was one of his friends..when he came to the door i yanked the door open pulled him out onto the front lawn a proceeded to punch him in the face!!!we wound up wrestling and my head hit the curb..and i wound up with a big knot on my forehead..he told every body the next day at school that he had given me the knot...and i was angry because i didnt knock him out..his mother finally rushed out and pulled me off of him and cursed me out..lol..but i said from that day im gonna learn how to knock people out i actually started learning karate through a mail order company that would teach you karate moves through the mail..so every week i would wait for my next "lesson" teaching me how to kill an opponent with deadly strikes to vunerable areas..they sent me a poster and all..of the deadly striking zones..so im 11 learning how to kill people from the mail..lol then one of my younger brothers friends mentioned to me that he was studying some martial art called taekwondo..which some instructor had just opened up..so i begged my parents to put me in the class so i could learn to become deadly..lol..thought i was a bad ass when i first put on a dobok.and thought man i allready know enough with my deadly mail order training...got my ass kicked all over the place the first few classes and realized.."hey this martial arts stuff isnt easy"....got hooked ever since saying to myself.."this guy kicked my ass this week but next week ill get back"!!!..lol..then started seeing that taekwondo wasnt about all that..and been going ever since with one thing that remained constant to this day.."ive gotta kick your ass..otherwise ill lose sleep"..lol..become alot more mature about it over the years but still say to myself....im not gonna get another knot on my head!!! and i know how to kill you..with all my deadly moves LMAO!! _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-20 22:32 ] [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-02-20 22:45 ]
  21. im really tired about hearing about mike tyson...he shouldnt be given anymore chances and be banned from boxing altogether..he should have been banned right after the infamous match with evander hollyfield...were waiting for a real champion like ALI...boxing is straving for this...only boxers now which get my respect are roy jones jr or felix trinidad..
  22. okay last night while teaching a class i was having a drill session where the students took turns standing in front of me and kicking me in the stomach while i was wearing my hugo (body protector) after about eight students guess what happen..somebody rang the bells..now im sure youve all been hit at sometime were the pain is so intense you dont feel it right away but you know its coming..lol..soo as i felt the strike and didnt feel the pain immediately i had time for one thought before going down.."damn i just read about this on karateforums!!" then went down....well when i looked up this is what i saw..a seven year old kid with a look on his face as if he was about to die....i saw him look at the front door where generally the parents sit and watch the class..i think he glanced over to see if his mom was still there (she wasnt) and when he didnt see her i saw a tear well up in his eye...(maybe he was thinking mommy will never see me alive again..lol)...he was very frightened by what i would do..since some of the kids refer to me as "the monster" a reputation im trying to get rid of with the kids...so i thought to myself despite the pain i had to get up and not show it hurt..but to let him know it was okay ..it was a mistake...tap him on the head and had him continue....what good would making him do one hundred push ups had done..or yelling at him..or some other dumb punishment..anyway..this is the way i handled it...(mental note ..must wear my cup during drilling)
  23. doug i aint mad atcha!!
  24. youre right ken and thats what i keep telling you..angus..this is not a movie or video game were you can just hit reset and rewind if you get hurt worse or even mortally...pride will kill you faster then a bullet..let it go man...as far as people commenting on you did not have enough skill..or it was a valuable lesson.....anybody would have a tough time defending against two attackers..i dont care what youre level of skill is or how much experience you claim to have....and the lesson you should have learned is an old one ..any day above ground is a good one..
  25. relax!!! only youre fifth class...i dont even feel you should allready be into forms at your fifth class..you have to develop all of your basics and be very comfortable with them first before doing forms..maybe thats the first thing wrong..and you also said you feel youre not keeping up..ask your instructor to take the time to help you out..many people when starting out martials arts may feel very intimidated to the point were they are afraid to do one simple thing..ASK!!! your paying him..so he works for you ..got it???...take your time..dont get frustrated...break down all your techniques..and practice them over and over..learn your forms a couple of steps at a time..like say..im going to only work on the first four steps today..adn when you get those down..add another four steps..and so on..but again i must stress that you are not ready yet to start forms..which for you may be chon ji ..or taeguk ill jang..depending on your dojang.. work on getting your body used to the basics for now..work on walking back and forth in your foward/back stances while doing your low blocks..revrse punches..middle block..high e.t.c...once you are very comfortable with all of those basics then you will be ready to go into forms....we usally dont start showing the first form to our students until at least a month of training them in the basics...
