"Tenants of Taekwon-Do"
taezee replied to Jerry Trimble's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
we teach tenets of taekwon do over and over..now where do they go when you show up at a tournament.?.right out the window!!!all of the sudden everyone turns into politicians or cry baby sore losers...for the most part respect..courtesy...integrity..they take the back burner..another reason i dont like sporting events in martial arts...im not speaking about everyone there are some people that come out and are great sportsmen but for the most part my expereince has been these events are circus like -

Multiple Styles - Multiple Belts
taezee replied to Iron Arahat's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
good point being a black belt does not automatically make you a teacher...you have to have the charcater the patitience and understanding as well as the technical ablities to become an instructor..i know plenty of guys who are great fighter..some great forms preformers....but they cant teach to save thier lives..this is a common misconception that any back belt is also an instructor as far as instruction goes as long as the person is capable under supervision to teach..up until 4th dan then he may open his own school ... -

for those of you unfortunate enough to view an obsence posting under my name i apologize..i had left my computer open at work and someone thought it was funny..they will not think it was funny when i find out who it was..again my appologies -
im sorry gentleman it seems ive have been misunderstood..angus original comment or theory was thtat he can control or channel his anger to work in making him a better fighter..what i was implying in my retort was that anger cannot be used in this way positively,,when giving into anger it is very difficult to control...it can be controlled intially but when giving into it its nothing but trouble...an example i work retail i sell electronics for a living..needless to say i work with customers who are snobbish and feel because they are spending money today they can speak to me in any manner they wish..some of them get me angry and i say to myself (i wish i could just kick your teeth in right now if front of your wife and then see how cool you are then as you spit your teeth out) however my need to continue earning money supercedes this impulse and the fact i dont want to spend the night in jail..now if i give into that anger these would be some immediate cosequences...however if i decicde to filp it up on him say i throw out a feature which he knows nothing about..well sir do you know this dvd has a progressive scan..no? well sir this tv do you know why or what makes the picture so clear..no? well let me explain it out to you(jerky boy i say to myself)then he has reason to shut up pay attetion to what im telling him and he now has respect for me(and for the most part at about this time he realizes what an ass hes been)if i have a customer who continues i simply say have a nice day and walk away..that is what i do now..it hasnt always been that way i used to get into sarcastic verbal matches where we both wasted each others time and my anger would put me in a position where i had something to lose(my job)and he did not (customer is always right even if he is an ass#*le)so my point is to control anger is good to try to use it give into it and then try to say i can channel or control it is an excercise in futility....

anger is not something that cannot be contolled..it may have different levels of intensity but never controlled...its like a fire you may believe you can contain or channel it only to have it rush out without warning..anger when out of control leads to poor judgement...and thats when we get into problems....you may feel hey wait you guys dont understand me..ive got mine under controll..your playing with fire my friend..and one day it will burn you...you should learn to diminish your anger instead as for when a loved one maybe hurt that is more of a fear reaction than anger anger works hand in hand with fear..and there is nothing wrong with fear..admiting that you have fear is one of the most hardest things one can do especially when youre so concerened as being precieved as macho(and believe me i know im a latino)but this channeling of fear would be much more effective than anger...ask a cop what does he feel keeps him on his toes when going to a call where violence is occurring he will tell you fear... than ask him what will get him killed.... anger

we have enough problems with people getting black belts in two years or less without worrying about skipping ranks,my god where does it all end..soon youll be a black belt if you complete an introductury course..i would rather be a white belt for 10 years and know i can "handle my own" than to be some dissulusioned 3rd or fourth dan who cant even throw a front kick properly..whats the rush or the emphasis with belts??? just relax and enjoy your martial arts training try to improve everyday but never assume that the color of your belt or your title will somehow through some secret power improve you as a martial artist or a person..there are things in life you cannot buy..being an authentic martial artist is one of them.

well any style can become "personalized" no two taekwondo stylist may have the same technique niether judo ,karate, kung fu it all depends on what works for the individual..and that is another aspect of the jeet kune do philosophy...take what works and peel the rest away as if sculpting a beautiful statue..it is not limited to chinese martial arts but every thing that one learns in combat..example bruce lee trained in different kicking styles with both master rhee(father of taekwon do and chuck norris) to further his kicking skills ...but not many people know this he went to the best in any category and adapted this to his own personal fighting style..even people in the same system of training have thier strenghts and weaknesses.its all a matter in taking what works for you and what doesnt and adapting..so your fighting style becomes like a thumbprint..not every person has the same exact execution of technique but what works best for them..so that just becuase a submission fighter excels in killing you while you are down he has to get to that piont first..if im a real fast kicker and powerful..then he will not be able to get me on the ground before i knock out the lights..just as if i am not quick enough he will choke or lock me up before i can execute a kick,,then im in trouble..remember one thing before bruce made wing chun famous it was considered a girly art an art for women it was in fact created by a woman practictioner and any man practicing this art was made fun of..so my point is it is better to have ones own personal style of martial arts or even one technique(suppose i have one kick or hand srtike that i know works every time)then to have dozens that i think may work.....thats just my opininon i may be wrong..me personally i like to kick and am very confident in my fighting style (taekwondo) but at the same time am not naive in asuming my oppnent maybe more skilled in another fighting style that he cant take me out..doesnt mean that that his style is ultimate just that he may be more skilled in that art than i am in mine..there are plenty of boxers i know who train harder and are more deadly with thier hands than i am with my feet yet few people refuse to acknowledge that boxing is a martial art just because you dont use your feet..the individual makes the art and not visca versa...
