  1. respect the institute of marriage? have you watched jerry springer lately ?as far as wearing your black belt yes you should be proud of having that privledge i wasnt saying otherwise .. i was just stating that wearing that belt is the smallest part of being that belt..in other words being a well rounded martial artist is way more important then reminding people every 5 minutes hey im a master or im a black belt... I dont tell everyone i know im a black belt and i also dont claim to be or let anyone call me master despite the fact ive been in taekwondo for 25 years now.the respect i get is from individuals knowing who i am what im capable of and not the uniform belt or title that is presented....so much emphasis is put on that belt and it is but a small part of the martial arts...so step back take a deep breath i wasnt trying to set you off girl..im glad you have youre black belt and i hope youre as nice and confident as you sound on this site ...
  2. well i was just giving an example i dont want to turn this into the virtues of matrimony or guys are from mars girls are from venus...just trying to once again point out the over emphasis in judging ones ability or background or character just because of the belt color they are wearing.. ive meet too many people who were not black belts who are true martial artist than visca versa..(by the way ken yeah i was in for six years you too?)
  3. well this is what im pointing out ken..ther is just so many rules and politics involved in taekwondo now that i dont even enjoy these "full contact" macthes anymore...
  4. kickchick..what about that tan line around someones finger..and not to sound rude but when i was in the service i met plenty of women who wore the ring proudly while trying to pick up men in a club while ther husbands where out to sea for six months...my point being that wearing things that symbolize something does not make the persons character..only that person can make that happen.. _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2001-08-28 10:57 ]
  5. I dont know anymore there are so many rules in "full contact taekwondo" now that it hardly should be called that..i remember when a knockout to the head was not only legal but encouraged...
  6. thank rush..i felt the same thing almost a guilt in feeling better them than me..then an anger for having that thought..... as for muay tbi i have to wonder did you eat paint chips as a child?..almost everything you post sounds dumb your not the sharpest tool in the shed around your parts are you? 8. it was officially declared that he died of cerebal swelling due to an allergic reaction to some type of asprin...the media went into a frenzy and started all types of rumors on the cuase of death from mafia hitman to ninjas to being killed by an ancient evil spirit (the bruce lee curse) when his son brandon was killed in an accident while filming THE CROW it brought on a resurgence of the rumors and the bruce lee curse.... i personally think he overtrained, kept a hectic work schedule not enough rest and this all caught up to him and killed him..
  9. instructor of both taekwondo and hapkido.....welcome hapkidodude..and party on garth..(just kidding)

  11. in a related post on the passing of singer/actress aaliyah yesterday..in a tragic accident...im sure she didnt know yesterday was her last day..as also three of my friends who passed this year did not have a clue on the day they died....tommorrow is not promised and i realize that more now than ever..(my last friend died only one week ago)its different when you read it in some news article than to have it hit home so close...then you really stand back and say wow...stop procastinating..let the people around you know you love them much and live every day as if its youre last...someday it will be..and it could be tommorrow
  12. it would be a great benifit to the quality of martial arts instruction in america if there where established an organization that would handle OFFICIAL licensing of instructors the way it is required of doctors, dentist ,phsycologist ..e.t.c....
  13. yeah i understand the concept of jkd..but you got these guys opening schools professing to be masters of several styles and then theres all these other guys running around claiming to have trained with bruce or dan...doesent anyone check credentials anymore or do they just take the guys word for it
  14. the singer/actress who starred with jet li in ROMEO MUST DIE was killed yesterday in a plane crash..may she rest in peace..god comfort her family.....
  15. yeah especially "masters" under thiry years old..how are these guys learning all these styles..do they just have them downloaded like in THE MATRIX?
  16. im so tired of the belts discussions..or the ranking system or what shade of tangerine your school uses...the question should be what makes a martial artist? its been said before but still true... a belt holds youre pants up thats it...

  20. brother not for nuthin but you should have a trainer/coach telling you what you should be doing...i mean there are people on this site who know what they are talking about but you have others who are legends in ther own mind and i dont believe that for training for a fight you rely on info you recieve on the net and then decide which info is legit or not..do you have a trainer now?
  21. you rush youre too suave player
  22. that is someone who needs to not be teaching and to have the school shut down..and unfortunatly this type of instructor is not that uncommon..there are "instructors" out there that feel the need to teach class as if his student were soldiers and this is his boot camp..they wind up treating students and parents with much dirispect and unessesary abuse..and alot with lazy instructors who have 9 and 12 year olds running the classes for them while they sit in thier office.this should not be tolerated in any school especially when dealing with children..I myself was guilty of this at one time when i returned from military service..I drilled as a miltary instructor rather than a sahbumnim because it was all i did for the previous 6 years ..but now i was scaring the [word edited out] out of the students instead of teaching..and i thought it was just that they werent tough enough...well after about 12 students left classes after my return in one months time my master told me the truth..I was a terrible instructor and i had to tone down or leave the dojang before i put him out of buisness..and then i realized man im not teaching soldiers im dealing with six seven eight year olds and im coming down hard..and what was funny then was i thought i was helping them build character...well you live and learn i ajusted became alot more understanding and compasionate about dealing with kids..changed my teaching styles for different ages or genders kind of like a chameloen ..i know who i can nail to the wall now and they come back for more and who i have to treat with kid gloves on.....if any one has seen full metal jacket (the movie) i went from that drill instructor to a much more humble type like a puerto rican mr myagi...and now am an instructor who is much more enjoyed (except with my black belts..i still kill those guys but they love it) so with martial arts training it is not necessary to rule with an iron hand to become a successful teacher ..and any abuse should be dealt with straight out and not tolerated in the name of training.. hope you find a good school with a good instructor..good luck
