  1. the p diddy album is off the hook definetly cop that...my favorite is old school freestyle dance music and rap and of course salsa being puerto rican...
  2. yeah well I dont think you would consider it acting when one of these guys grabs you and tears your spinal column out of your a#@..these guys are acting but it takes alot of skill, training and control to do what they do..keep in mind im not a big fan but from what i have seen its is naive to think they cant really put you into hurt mode as for full contact taekwondo when you add the punching then its the same as kickboxing..in my opininon its just a game of tag with the legs theres too many rules and every year they are adding another one..not to mention the politics involved..i dont even want to start on that subject..
  3. ken you got the bats on the brain,,i remember you telling us about the one dude who broke into tears afterward ..do you think at that point he was worried about impressing you or anyone else?
  4. well i think its big enough now not only in the US but worldwide..im so tired of the general public seeing martial arts as represented by the van dammes and seagals..with the cheesy one good guy versus the "syndicate" plot lines! this is long time overdue..does anyone have this type of broadcast in thier area? I think a good name for such a channel would be World Martial Arts...(by the way i have yet to catch any real good fights on espn..all i have seen is two boxers throwing ocassional bad kicks and wearing blackbelts and calling themselves kickboxers)
  5. after another night of channel surfing i got so frustrated of nothing being on or the same 80's movies being played (I know the complete dialouge to die hards 1,2,and 3 yipee kiy yeeaaa!) I flung my remote against the wall into pieces...I mean we got two 24 hour golfing channels and a channel for fly fishing..what the hell ? you mean to tell me these topics are more exciting then martial arts? I want my MTV (er..martial arts tv) why hasnt anyone come up with this? wouldnt it be great one channel just dealing with martial arts all day...training seminars..self defense..title matches..interviews with champions and stars..breaking demos..it seems to me the only exposure we get is the ocassional kickboking matches on espn (and these guys look terrible) or the history or learning channel special . there is definetly a large market why hasnt something like this come about? IF ther were such a channal I dont believe i would be watching anything else..
  6. have a great time and you just reminded me i have to make reservations for my flight at the end of the month...talk to ya when you get back
  7. a belt or uniform or title.job position.these all mean NOTHING!!! what makes an individual is the actions the way they carry and handle themselves and most importantly the way they treat and respect others,,not what they wear or what blown up bull#@*&! reputation precedes them..there are too many masters in this world and too little authentic martial artist.. the ones who are less talkative and less flamboyant are the dangerous ones..the ones who talk too much brag and have fifty diplomas on there walls are usally paper tigers..
  8. I have always had a love for big white tigers
  9. it sounds like your jump off leg is stopping your momentum (this is also the same leg you strike with in a 360 kick) if you dont know how to pivot correctly on your support leg while executing spinning kicks this sort of "changing into" a sweep kick commonly happens. the probblem is you are remaining flat footed on your spining foot..therefore it acts like a brake stopping the momentum and lowering your kick when it comes around to the front (or towards the target) you must practice spinning (with out kicking first) on the balls of your feet..start out in an exagerrated arch like a ballet dancer and just spin..concertrating on keeping that heel all the way off the floor..start out just doing this with regular spinning not 360 then as you adjust a get used to not putting that heel down then add a kick whether it be a hook wheel back it doesnt matter the initial excecution is the same....once you have mastered spinnining around with these kicks then again break it down into basic start with fighting stance..left foot foward right back...as you swing the right foward arch again and this time jump off the ball of the foot tuck your knees to your chest spin around and land into the same fighting stance(without kicking at first) then again as you get used to this add the kicks when doing this kick correctly the momentum built up makes this one of the more powerful kicks in taekwon do...the problem is everybody wants to do this beautiful kick and rush into it and develop alot of bad habits and form ..take your time break it down into parts good form is the key (i forgot to mention that you have to do this on both sides) good luck and train hard
  10. good luck on your test jack...

  17. master jhoon rhee, master hee ill cho...of course bruce lee who after seeing his films i started practicing and especially my master who is like my 2nd dad Atef S Himaya (thank you sir for all the well deserved beatings)...
  18. if you want to be able to do what jet li does in the movie find a school that specializes in suspending you from bunji cords so you can do all those multiple air manuvers
  19. one step sparring in my opinion is alright for lower belts as we gradually train them to interact with partners in simulated combat..however most of these techniuqes are an exageration like in hyungs (or kata)or a shadow of what a real attack and counter would be like...first your standing face to face one guy yells kia! to let the other guy know hes coming then its something like an over telegraphed punch or kick into some stupid extended foward stance or awkward back stance....this is not the natural movements during combat so why drill this way hundreds and hundreds of times..what will happen when you encounter real combat..will you automatically adjust and do what you have to? i dont think it quite works that way..why not just practice one steps but with the way people (especially untrained people)may attack you and then practice what works from there (please refer to my posting under general karate under people who dont know ...)
  20. first off jack I dont see how the stevie wonder techniuqe will help you...unless you get jumped during a blackout...just kidding....one does not learn how to swim without getting in the water and swimming...in other words say i want to learn how to swim...will i learn by sitting by the side of the pool or beach and reading a manual "lets say a idiots guide to not drowning" well you could spend years reading this book...imitating the moves(like forms
  21. angus i think your doctor needs to increase your medication...
  22. by the way the one with the soccer fan flying down the bleechers is something id like to do to some of my co workers..sorry just a little confession
  23. yo ken that site is classic..thanks i didnt know about that one ..the one with the grizzly ...i couldnt breathe i was laughing so hard
  24. so in concliusion it would be better for one to train for actual encounters daily for a few months than to train years in some school that has students walking around quoting chinese proverbs a hiding behind that old belief that it is better to walk away from a fight and practicing fancy moves in the mirror and being so satisfied with themselves..do you think law enforcement personal have that luxury being the fact that tommorow night they might have to take down some 300 lbs man on pcp..at that point do you think they will impress the man by telling him "hey i know karate dont make me do pattern # 5 on your ass or i just got my next color belt last week.. okay I got that out now let me go catch my breath somwhere..sorry for the long post
  25. it is my opinion that schools today just want to make money..they dont care wheter you can stop someone from cleaning the floor with your face..its buisness..in order to keep that buisness going the student (or customer) has to have something to show for the monthly fees they are paying at the dojang...can you tell me the last time you saw a school where the only emphasis was real self defense and not all the other distractions such as forms practice...or rank testing for the next belt ..not worrying about hmm can i really handle myself? I dont know but this new color looks good on me...americans (the majority)dont have the patience to actually train hard and properly qualify for the next level..we want everything yesterday and believe that money can buy anything..when it comes to the street the only way money can save you is if you can hire a bodyguard...all your years of "training" dont mean SH#*T !! if you havent been properly trained and had the focus to actually become a fighter than to worry more about how do i look or what do other people think of me you might have a chance...who would be more prepared someone who actually gets in the mix daily or someone who goes through the motions and just feeds there ego (you may adress me as master or mr or sir) me personally I dont think myself a MASTER despite my years..Iam still a student and I still can be knocked out by a person who does not study the arts..I never get dissollusioned about that fact..those of you who make bold statements about how you would handle yourself in street fight should also realize this(you know who you are)
