Besides, have you seen an interview with Evander Holyfeild lately? There is a perfect example of a fighter past his prime and showing the effects. Lewis was screwed out of many a title shot throughout his career because he wasn't a King fighter. Bowe ducked Lewis in his short reign at the top, most likely due to the beating he received in the Seoul Olympics at the hands of Lewis.

34. (1) Every one who is unlawfully assaulted without having provoked the assault is justified in repelling force by force if the force he uses is not intended to cause death or grievous bodily harm and is no more than is necessary to enable him to defend himself. That's out of the Canadian Criminal Code. You are allowed by law to match force with force... if he swings at you..swing back. Of course you can't continue to pummel him once he's out cold, but you're are within your rights to continue fighting for as long as he continues to attack you. If he were to take a swpie at you and you smack him in the mouth and he decides you were'nt the easy prey he thought you were and walks away, you can't keep beating him. that would make you the new assaulter. Sections 25 -28 hold you responsible for use of force and charges can be laid if the police deem excessive force has been used.

Actually, as soon as that person pushed you he assaulted you, therefore you are not the attacker. Pushers are usually yelling how they're "gonna kick your *" so now they've threatend you and you are now well within your rights to pop them in the mouth. Remember...getting hit first is a sure recipe for losing.

Boxing: Short vs Tall
Northren Ogre replied to Neil's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Keep your guard up, time his jabs(which most fighters use to keep shorter fighters away), and lunge in with a powershot upstairs. Then tuck in and keep close to the taller fighter, pounding away at his body. Don't let him get his punches at full extension. As the shorter fighter, you have to get in close to make yourself more effective, and him less effective. Once inside, pound away at his body, taking away his wind and his legs. Really work his liver over with powerful left hooks to the body. Snap a few big hooks upstairs when in close. But don't get into a pushing match with the bigger fighter. Most bigger fighters will try and lean on you, shoving you towards the ground in an attempt to make you spend energy trying to push them off. Let them lean on you, and work thier body at that time. Getting in is a pain in the ass, but letting your opponent get his distance again is even more frustrating..once in, stay in close. -
I've been in a lot of fights, and I have lost very few. Most of the time I use simple techniques, headbutts, elbows and knees work wonders against those who never think of them. But most streetfights turn into a "ground 'em and pound 'em" situation, so not too many fancy techniques work out.....I mean, no one taps out in a streetfight, so go for the KO.

What kind of budget do you have? Pinpoint what price range you're willing to spend will help narrow down your choices. Check out my stupid website for a joke too...it's about the trials and tribulations of my paintball team. http://jedpaul.tripod.com

Upcoming bouts!
Northren Ogre replied to TheSod_88's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
While Jones Jr. is a flashy, quick extremely skilled boxer, I think he would even realize that going up against Iron Mike Tyson is not favorable for him. Stepping up to fight John Ruiz was a smart calculated risk for the much lighter Roy Jones Jr. Ruiz is a slow lumbering heavyweight with a suspect chin and limited skills and power. Iron Mike, while an aging fighter, still packs huge explosive power, as was shown in his last bout. Iron Mike KO's 240+lb men....hitting Roy Jones, who only weighed 193 lbs for the Ruiz fight would be devestated by a single blow from Tyson. Tyson is faster and far more skilled than John Ruiz and I think he would seriouly injure Roy Jones Jr. Of course I'm going to hear "you can't hurt what you can't hit" But even Ruiz connected with Jones. Byrd on the other hand is a pretty good boxer/puncher in the hevyweight division...a little more skilled than Tyson, younger...quicker...but lacking the devestating power of Tyson. I think the styles would make a far more entertaining bout . If I wanted to watch someone have thier career(and maybe thier life) end I'd watch the Jones Jr. - Tyson fight. For an entertaining well boxed bout I'd rather watch a Jones Jr. - Byrd bout. I think the Ukranian Giants are finished...they were brought to the point they're at by fighting less than stellar competition and it's starting to show...Lewis would own them both. -
Winning a streetfight, curious?
Northren Ogre replied to Kaju_influenced's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My tips in"winnng" (I put winning in quotation marks for the liberals who say there is no winner in a street fight, blah, blah blah) 1. Land first.... getting hit first is a sure recipe for losing 2. Straight punches. Most street brawlers will throw wide, looping hooks. Keeping your shots down the pipe will land faster. 3.Get his shirt over his head and throw a couple of good uppercuts, followed by knees. Usually game over. 4. Once the fight goes to the ground, go for the mounted position, but rain elbows down on you opponent rather than punches....why bust up your hands..plus elbows do more damage. 5. When he's out ...get to your feet and yell down at him..."Yeah B ITCH!" -

Knees from the clinch
Northren Ogre replied to Severe Matburn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Um here's an idea...avoid the clinch in a real fight. In my experiences most inexperienced fighters will try to clinch and smother, and then it just turns into a lot of rolling around on the ground. I find it's best to just drive punches straight down the pipe as most brawlers will throw wide haymakers. However, should you get ahold of their shirt, it makes for fine leverage to drive knees into a bent over face. -

Well, it's time to up your protein intake and hit the weights! To add high quality lean muscle you have to eat the building blocks of muscle, protein. It is recommended that you eat 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day while training for growth. I have no idea what 8.3 stone is in pound so i cannot even recommend a number. Good protein sources include chicken breasts, tuna, lean red meat, egg whites. To ensure you're getting enough protein use a good protein supplement, I recommend EAS Myoplex lite(fewer calories and Carbs) or Designer protein by Champion Nutrition. I cannot remember off hand the formula to find out your BMR, or how many calories your body needs to maintain ( no gain, no loss), but I'm sure Kickchick has it some where . Add about 500 calories per day for growth, to your BMR. Try to eat about every 2-3 hours a small meal (serving of protein, serving of carbs, and serving of veggies works for me.) Sample meal...1 chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice, i cup carrots and a 16 oz glass of water. Sample breakfast 1 whole egg, 3 egg whites, 2 peices whole grain toast, 16 oz skim milk.....for a total of about 6-7 meals a day. Make the last thing you do before you go to bed is have a protein shake. Now the weights..... You should train about 4 sets of 8-12 repetitions per set. Studies show that 8-12 reps of suitable weight works best for hypertrophy, or mass building. For example: Bench press of about 80% max press weight...8-12 reps...repeat 4 times. I try to train every other day, giving your torn muscles a chance to repair, thus grow. I train 2 body parts per day every other day. Monday. Shoulders and Back Tuesday 30 mins Cardio Wednesday: Legs & Calves ( I hate leg days) Thursday: 30 mins Cardio Friday: Chest & arms Saturday: 30 mins cardio Sun Day rest. and garbage day..one day to indulge in something sweet, fatty and geneally bad for me. If you want a rundown of my training routine send me a PM and I'll run it down for you.

How many of you have actual combat experience?
Northren Ogre replied to kenpo4life's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm a fromer bar manager/bouncer and have been a Correctional Officer for the past 5 years. I would estimate that i have been in at least 300 physical confrontations in my 28 years. My training in Jeet Kune Do, BJJ and San Shou has helped me tremendously in these aspects. Most of these altercations end once you ground some one, or simply twist them up in a painful lock of some sort. However there does come a time when one simply has to "knuckle up" and throw down. I have no doubt that my training helps me keep my pretty, pretty face. -

Try to eat 1 gram of protien for every pound of body weight if you are trying to gain some nice lean muscle. Using a protein supplement to help out with this makes life a lot easier. Good lean protein sources for your meals are chicken, egg whites, tuna, venison, and some cuts of red meat, like eye of round steak. As for a protein supplement I would reccomend either Designer Protien or EAS Myoplex lite. Both pack lots of protein and keep your carb intake down.
