Basics or Kihon if that's what one is referring to are as important as the kata. One can not expect perform various movements without practice of these said "techniques" even Golf needs practice so Martial Arts definitely does. Soldiers practice warfare and techniques of battle so its definitely a valid thread, OSU

Solid post!! Yes I have to agree, I can't really add to this, OSU

I think Koryo Poomsae is my "kata" at present. I can only get to a specific point and I forget it every time. I'll get it right one day LOL

Welcome to the forum i guarantee you will enjoy this forum and the people on it. Best thing I can suggest is you do your research, Google George Dillman to see what's good and what's bad. We on here are very respectful to all arts but another forum who's not as considerate as we are has a list of schools which aren't what they seem etc. Saying that if you follow the advice above you won't go far wrong

Becoming a BJJ instructor - any ideas?
Dobbersky replied to xo-karate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I'm with Cobra Martial Arts Association and they have a Instructor Training Programme. I think because they have Members in the US that I am sure that someone from the US could complete the programme, they have level 3, level 2 and the top level 1 http://www.martialartsinstructor.co.uk/ -
DoctorQui You hit the nail on the head, The senior Instructor saw your technique and said there was nothing wrong with it, where as the Sempai's were making sutle changes, its because Their experience has not come to a level that they go beyond technique. Everyone has there own "Style" even for styles like Shotokan and Wado and Shito Ryu etc where every hand/foot position has to be perfect. I on the other hand am, in my style, not to concerned whether the hand/foot position etc is 4cm wrong or the toes aren't turned in enough etc. but I suppose like your Senior instructor have gone beyond the technique Just relax, Bow, thank the Sempai who is showing you and take you own interpritation of what all the Semapis have given you to make your own OSU

Muay Thai is a great Art, I know I did it for over 2 years, but if you were going to cross train, I'd recommend a grappling art evergrey as you'd be an allround fighter. most of the techniques found in Kyokushin and Muay Thai are virtually the same OSU

Tang Soo!!! I used to practice Tang Soo Do, for 4 years, but got disheartened when he turned into a McDojo. Good Luck on your next test, seems a bit fast between grades, but if you're happy with that, then that's ok. For your "breaking" technique, aim past the board not to it and don't panic enjoy your journey -
Only answer I got for you evergrey http://www.youtube.com/user/EnterTheDojoShow?v=wsM_wwek2k0 OSU

Totally agree, I wear mine all the time, we do a lot of bunkai so strikes to various regions is quite regular, so its easier to keep it on all the time, you won't realise It's there after a while

All, looking through various You tube Videos and our favourite Wikipedia, apart from on paper, what are the real differences between Japanese, American & Western versions of Kickboxing compared to Muay Thai. Where did they originate from, which arts? Some sources say American Kickboxing comes from Taekwondo. Western Kickboxing comes from Muay Thai. Ans Japanese Kickboxing comes from a mix of Kyokushin, Muay Thai & Western Boxing. Which styles allow thigh kicks and elbow strikes and which don't? Looking forward to some good responses OSU

Tournament Fighting.

Agreed, also being hit in the face isn't nice but neither is a strike to the groin, if you had to choose, which one would you prefer to protect? -
Pre-emptively declining ranking.

Totally agree with this Although I believe its part of your instructor's responsibility to get their students ready for each grading -

Dunno about your 5th kyu, congratulations on you KF blackbelt, did you get a certificate! As at this post I still got about 105 posts to go before I get mine -
All Most TMA's tend to follow this sequence White - Red - Yellow - Orange - Green - Blue - Purple - Brown - Black But it would make more sense to follow this sequence White - Yellow - Orange - Red - Purple - Blue - Green - Brown - Black As the colours work better if One follows the old system of dying One's belt as it is easier to dye from light to dark as it is from ight to dark to light to dark again. Your thoughts please

My Days of full contact fighting are done, just enjoy teaching now, OSU -
It seems like you got a lot going on. In the UK you can open a school with a 1st Dan black belt. I would ask your instructor to assist you opening a Dojang where you live as a satellite of your original club, and he can come and do the gradings etc in the club you got etc. Only issue wofuld be once you got your 4th, will you continue under him as I am sure if his name was "on the door" he'd expect a "royalty" cheque etc. Good luck my friend.

Number of Fights&Times for Dan Grades
Dobbersky replied to Dobbersky's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
So we understand a little better, for the 14 3 minute rounds for 3rd dan, How many fighters of what grade? Fighters should be alteast 1st Dan or Black Belt and atleast enough to have a fresh Fighter for each round How long between rounds? "0" seconds or atleast just enough to change from one to another fighter Are they trying to put they guy down or trying to push him to his limits? Just trying to psh them to their limits, its not about knocking a guy out - there's no point what does one learn. Its about "not" giving up What do you do when the testing student drops someone 30 seconds into the round? Call it a round or throw someone new in for the remaining time? Good question not happened yet, I guess I would call it a round What are the fight rules with what gear? Ashihara Sabaki Challenge Rules Full Contact etc, MMA gloves, Gum Shields, Groin Guards. Head Guards, Shin/Instep Guards etc are optional -
Number of Fights&Times for Dan Grades -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All Would like to know what you would deem as the "correct" Levels for Kumite (Fights - Full Contact) for Gradings, should I amend them reduce them increase them etc? Nice techniques on that, putting them together would create an awesome Kata -
Meditation to me is something I don't do with My martial arts. There are loads on Meditation techniques available on the Internet and classes. I suppose its just controlling one's breathing with ones eyes closed and clearing one's mind of ALL thoughts

I love my feet, so hard, I walked around the Dojo (a Church Hall) for 5 minutes with a drawing pin in my heel thinking it was a stone or bit of glass till I decided to look what it was. Chuck Norris would have blunted a drawing pin if he'd have stepped on it LOL
