  1. They SHOULD have their sirens on in busy traffic, From what I know they only put the sirens on where theres plenty of traffic and they want people to shift, at places like junctions and stuff, else they just leave their lights on. Still, are you claiming on insurance or anything? Im sure there should be something in there for you. But i dont know... Did it actually hit you? or did it just force you to swerve off the road?
  2. Its a 5day workout program, Wrote it myself lastnight, tryed to incorporate differnt types of exercises in there, Anything with MECH on is a Lever machine, I had to shorten alot of words so it'd it nicely into the workout journal ive made in excel, which I can send to anyone if they like this program and want something to write it all down in etc. I'd like suggesions on this program since I spent a while writing it and want any critisims you can throw at me since im new too writing my own program, but seriously though, I've put more thought into this than the blokes at the gym, the trainers there are just like "Yeah do this this and this" Because its their on there computers. 3. I tend to listen to Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Silverchair, Pantera. Anything thats got a nice pace to it really. So far Black Sabbath and Pantera fair best though, Great music to spar too with the punchbag
  4. I'd say from my small experience in Wado-Ryu it is rather soft. for example there's theres hardle any grabs in the throwin techniques, its all open and using hip power, But i dont know if thats similar to other styles, but I presume its due to Wado's Jitsu influence. The founder of Wado saw it as an art of avoiding stikes and countering them using body movement to great advantage, he supposedly sparked up this concept during one winter while he observed the trees, the smaller rigid hardbranches that collected snow eventually snapped from all the strain. But the large flexiable oak tree's simple bent and the snow fell off.
  5. Welcome to the forums Miriam!
  6. Well, Ive just started Studying Wado-Ryu and I was doing Ippon Kumite/Gumite (Anyone tell me the differnce between these or is it just a spelling?) I dont really think im compitent enough to explain it, But i'd be intrested in reading it if anyone does put up an explanation The Attacker did a Junziki, then step though to do the opposite punch, while the defender Jodan uke the 2nd punch from the attacker, then the Defender moves up into the attacker, while punching to the uncovered side from the Jodan uke, then pushes the attacker away using the two points of contact made. Thats my very bad and probably wrong explanation of one of the first two I was taught last sunday. In my honest opinion though sliknik its best to learn the kumite from your sensei since they can very from school to school, so its best to learn the proper one from your sensei rather than having to un-learn and relearn the kumite.
  7. Im unfortunate enough to already have back problems, but not of the spinal sort, just muscle pain. I deal with it and try to help it with lots of back streching and staying active. If youve got spinal back problems you should stop what your doing and get it sorted, but the only way to help muscular back problems is to keep going with painkillers. I avoid doing anything that involves lifting and using my back, Its forced me to use my legs a whole lot more, if you google around for back stretches and exercises there should be plenty, keeping your back strong and not overdoing it is the best thing (prevention) Another set of muscles that help stabalize and assist your back is your Abs and Obliques, so its good to do abit of work on them too.
  8. Flys are a brillient chest exercise, they put alot of stress on your chest, and you can add flares in your movement to make it more challenging, and with dumbbells you really work your stablizing muscles with flys. For streght training I'd look at about 3 set of 3-5 reps personally, thats what I do, and have been recommended to do. Dont forget to train with differnt width grips when benchpressing, closer together to work triceps, wider to work the chest, the triceps and chest work hand in hand when pressing, so it helps to have both trained well.
  9. So, Does anyone hear play/played/want to play guitar? I just spent the best part of last night rewiring one of my guitars (A Lespaul copy i got off a carboot, But, My guitar teacher striped it bare, and rebuilt it himself for me, Hes also my Sensei!) So now its all wired I need new pickup rings..new ferrules...new screws...new neck plate... all because its still go the standard parts from when it was from the carboot apart from the pickups, which are Mightymite Motherbuckers (And as the name suggests there damn meaty and loud) So how long have people been playing if you do? and what guitars do you have
  10. I had to have one of my front teeth removed since it was growing out over the top of some other one (It was either have it out, or have a brace) And theres no way I was going to have a brace, So i said ill have it taken out, and really its a doddle, He gave me a local anestetic in my gum and I just closed my eyes and thought happy thoughts, It was out before I knew it and it didnt hurt at all. Its actually more of a weird feeling rather than a painful one. But with a local and sedation I wouldnt worry one bit, Ive had 2 operations and they make you feel right at home, the local or sedation isnt going to wear of halfway though at all, They have the anesatist staff which deal with that, to get all the dosage right, and it doesnt wear off for a good hour or two afterwards (Drinking and eating not advised, I dribbled it all down me lol)
  11. Just ordered another kilo of Protein Powerder, So at 25g a day, its going to last me ~40 days. Doing abit of reading and https://www.bodybuilding.com suggests 25g a day for athletes, But I suppose thats more running and swimming etc. Since Im going to the gym 2-3 times a week and doing 4 hours of MA training a week, Do you think 30g sounds okay? Like for all out body building its saying 1 to 1.5 times your body weight in lbs (thats 192-288g for me) Which is alot, only making a kg last a few days But i guess I get a fair amont from my day to day foods anyway.
  12. Well, I pay 9.50 per Kg, which works out to about 17.6 dollars per Kg Thats Concentrate 80, Whey Isolate which is the even even better stuff is about 28.8 dollars (15.50 GPB) Im just looking to buy some more actually, im down to about a 1/4 of my tub, So I should be having some protein everyday, especially after my workouts. Ill have to get taking some shake in the morning since the amount of protein I get during the day is most likly low anyway.
  13. 4grams per pound is really going to mess up your liver and kidneys.. Apparently its 0.88-1g per lb of body mass sounds ok.. But Should I be taking this everyday? Im unsure as to if I should just drink it when ive worked out, or have a constant supply of it coming in.
  14. Thats exactly what I mean, And combonations of them so I can have a good mixed up Sparring session on the bag. And improve my technique.
  15. So, Along with my starting of Wado-Ryu, and the Extra bag work im going to be doing.. Ive changed my gym program as well, I used to train my muscle endurance doing 4 sets of 10 reps on all exercises.. But I swapped it around and settled with 3 sets of 5 reps with a beefier weight, Instantly the gym is more intresting, no long slugging it out exercise, its quick, sweet and hard work, My upper body feels so pathetic now after spending a hour and a half doing some work. on it all And, I figured with all this exercise and such, I should go back onto the protein shake, now i usually just had 3 large spoonfuls in a pint of milk after i'd come back from the gym (getting it within that supposed golden half hour where absorbtion rates are higher) but I think I saw Sohan mention taking it everyday? Any tips for this new workout regime and the Protein shake, i remember seeing some figures like 2.2g of protein shake for 1lb of body mass or something like that? Any suggestions appreciented
  16. You could try joining your local gym and try doing some rowing, or try skipping or stepping, xtraining... I assume your already in a gym though? Since cycling and walking in a gym do get very very boring after about 10min of starting. I dont tend to do much cardio though, but 1000m on the rower is my warm up, that usually keeps me intrested since I can vary the intensitys (Like, Racing myself to get to 500m faster, or going all out every other 10 seconds) Although 1000m only takes me about 2min40 these days.
  17. Well, Where I generally kick on the back it tends to be harder since its more packed down at the bottom, yet really unpacked at the top, so I know when my punches are getting power, just not the kicks I need some combonations too work on too which are more Karate orientated with kicks in, unlike the boxing style combonations I do now. (Thanks for that little combonation there Bushido, Ill go try it soon)
  18. Ive had a punchbag for a while, Its ~5foot and 40kg. Ive just finished training on it for the night and it doesnt half make me break a sweat and its helped by me rapping some eletrical type at face hight, Solar plexus height and belt high so I know where im hitting and can learn to focus my strikes (my friend, a ex-Muay Thai student said my punches where all over the shop and too high) So heres my question, What should I be looking at for a good routine on it. I usually go in and do ~30min just getting some punches in and a few front and roundhouse kicks. More of a free for all with the bag rather than a technique improvement. So anyone who does karate, can you inform me of some good Combonations . and technique building exercises. Also, Im trying to work power into my kicks i can make the bag swing and bend to high heavens when im punching it, but kicking it doesnt even leave a dent so I want to work alot on kicking too. Im not really up for the whole, 3min on 1min skipping lark, I'd rather go in for 4min and give myself a good 1min rest. Ive found ive been able to last a 5min round with a min or so rest. So im obviously not working hard enough.

Thanks for all the advice guys, Im hoping to learn some basic kata on friday and sunday depending on what goes on. I started learning a Kata last sunday which apparently was a 5th dan kata with its intended purpose to break their arms, snap there neck etc, though theres no need in remembering it, plus there was no way I could do the little spinning jump in the middle of it
  21. I ride mountain, in some of the areas rocky XC trails (well we've got one at least in this town) I go to the woods now and again during the month with my mates too, have a go at the downhill and XC there, but im still starting out. I have a Scott Purgatory with 80mm Rockshox Tora soloair forks. Gets me from A to B with some variations if I like along the way
  22. Power lifting eh, Cool. I still strengh train along with my new found Wado-Ryu study and I plan on combining the two to help me on my way. I have a DVD of some finnish power lifter, scary stuff. Steroid use though, your best staying away from that, for that stuff to do more harm then good you need a team of 20 doctors watching you everyday and take it in moderation, And thats just for health matters, not Powerlifting. We have a local 'meathead' club down at the bottom of town where all the people play around with steroids and drink raw eggs go, standing next to one of those guys, scary, and damn impressive, but you just know that their balls are shrinking from all that anabolic steriod use heh I saw this one guy, He was obviously one of those "one rep max bench press" dudes. He had the largest upper body every, and yet small legs was hilarious watching him sit down on the bench. Sit his little matchstick legs down, then let the mass of upperbody just lurch down heh.
  23. At my local club, I was speaking to one of the dan grades, he was going on to me about how long it would take to reach 1st dan like he did. And he mentioned a very valid point in my eyes, He said "You could get away with hammering through 3 or 4 grades a year, but thats if you just do what the syllabus says and dont take your time to expore, It'd be better if you just take it slow, do two grades a year, make sure you nail every one on the head, and be ahead of the game in the grade your in, Then when you get that so much wanted dan grade by all, your going to appreciate it much more, and be a damn good karateka too."
  24. Welcome to the forum Shotokan-Karate!
  25. I value uniformity alot, when I was an ex army cadet, The dicipline in everyone marching the same and in time and all that was brilliant, really gave you a sense of collective power. I suppose this could apply to Kata as well, Though I agree with you seeing variations and twists to kata could be intresting too, adds to its art appeal and creates a sort of individuality, As long as it doesnt totally change from its intended teaching (obviously hehe)
