Defense against School Scuffles
Samuel replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'd come close to agreeing with "Running and telling the teacher", The less you do the better. Dont really want to dabble in school exclusions and the such, you dont want to interfear with your education really. Though, In the last fight I was in, I was pined up against a wall by two lads, while another lad threw punches at my temple, I wasnt suprised when all the injury I got was a red mark and a blood shot eye (such weak and poor technique he had) But when your pinned to the wall theres not much you can do apart from kneeing one in a stomach, socking the other in the head and making a hasty departure. Heh someone was even so kind enough to hand me my glasses as they fell off when i took the blows to the head. But like I said, I'd keep with doing the least damage you can, I got excluded for the day because of that incident, since I was in the wrong for doing the most damage you see?. Shouting alot and making yourself the dominant figure, that works most of the time, If they think your a "psyco" or "well weird innit" theres less chance they will actually throw a punch, Just like the same group of lads tryed ganging up on my and my friends after coming out of the gym, I just let out a loud roar and screamed alittle, they soon dipped their head and went their merry way to drink cider no doubt. -

Ive been watching every episode, and the season finale was pretty good I must admit, Running off into the feild leaves it quite open for the next season But I have my doubts about the next season to be honest. I saw an advert for it, and its basically the hunt for them and how they manage outside the prison etc. But It sort of deviates from the shows name "Prison break" dontcha think? Heh

tactical weapons: knife vs ASP vs OC spray
Samuel replied to elbows_and_knees's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I agree with Glockmeister on the knife, doubles up as a very handy tool. Though there is alot of laws regarding knives here in the UK which means carrying one around legally can be abit of a problem. I have a 3in semi-serrated folder which I keep in my draw and use as a tool, and I have a 1.5cm mini folder which I keep on my keyring since 1. Its small and 2. it comes in handy to open envelopes and the such. But the little 1.5cm wouldnt help much in self defence and the 3in one is pushing the limit with the autoritys here. Infact both are bad in the eyes of the law since they both lock out. which are deemed more dangerous, But I seem them as safer since if your using it, you dont really want it closing back in your fingers if you slip. Sprays etc are illegal over here too. Sometimes it seems if you want to be within the law you just have to bite the bullet and get your posessions robbed and yourself beat to a pulp. Well that is unless your at home The bill passed to allow us to use "Reasonable" force to protect ones home is atleast a step in the right direction. -
Well the only pair of gloves I have at the moment is some leather fingerless gloves that I use on my heavybag It feels so sluggish and an annoying wearing the full sized gloves mine are pretty much like setboys cloth ones with pads on the back of the hand and front of the fist. Very minor drawback with them is that sometimes ill hurt the ends of my fingers but thats a very rare occasion.

Ive also found alittle something for practitioners of Wado Here... http://www.art-of-budo.com/karate/EN/index.htm Its a website shoving videos of Kihon and Kumite and kata etc could come in handy, But of course its no replacement for the teachings from your sensei. Along with this.. http://www.wado-ryu-karate.com/Syllabus_Total.html Albeit the "Us Eastern Syllabus" (Where I would want a Uk Syllabus) I can put one and one together and see what this style of Karate involvles =]

Doing a quick search of the forum, There isnt much talk of Wado-Ryu. Anyho, Aiwakai Wado-Ryu Is the style that my local club practices in. I thought I'd just make this topic to try muster those who practice in this style and get any suggestions/hints.tips On it and the like With this forum primarly being american (Not sure if it is though?) I suppose Wado is rare over there? It doesnt seem all that rare to me over her in England though.

17 year old wanting to start
Samuel replied to caution1919's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, If your anything like me, you'd jump right onto Muay-Thai Theres a TKD Class at where Ill be doing Wado-Ryu, And ive tryed the TKD, Didnt really like it that much at all, Its all kick this and that, But I didnt really get a good look at the art when I tryed it, So im in no position to comment really Muay-Thai though, I have a friend that did that art for a while, And he discribed it as the art of "Giving the guy some teeth to wash down with the blood" using your elbows, knees, and some pretty vicious strikes all round. If your looking to get into shape though and get more flexable, I'd suggest the TKD sinces its probably alot more easy going and more likly to slowly get you fitter and what not. -
I take Creatine Ethyl Ester for my gym resistance training Its a differntly refined version of Creatine Monohydrate (Monohydrate is the one that cases the water retention in muscles making them bloated and you heavyer) Due to CEE's composition this water retention doesnt occour (And if it does, its not that significant) As has been already said Creatine is a supplement for restoring and helping your muscles ATP supply which is a Energy pathway or whatnot usually you have to take it on a regular basis which helps increase and maintain a high ATP Pool. But it has been tested that these high amounts of ATP are only good for Anertobic exercise like weight training etc, Since the effort in such an exersize is in a burst and Anerobic so using the ATP instead of your norma l way of getting energy though Aerobic respiration Ive seen improvements while using it, and there isnt really any problems in taking it DOCUMENTED, To be honest it seems like there hasnt been much research in its use. But it is a very popular supplement in body building circles. I remember reading somewhere about its use in Olympic tornaments in the very distant past, I think it was something like the greeks or what ever, They didnt know that Creatine actually existed, but they knew of the benifits of eating alot of red meat, which is rich in Creatine.

Kieran-Lilith, I know just How you feel, Im an Ex-Army cadet and I got the attention of alot of the younger people even if I didnt hold any rank. One of the nicest feelings in the world I must admit, You really feel like someone when your helping out the kids and giving them some directions. Keep it up! Im sure you'd make a great instructor they would have the respect of many a student. You aim for the BB and you teach all those come want to learn.
