  1. Well not at the moment but i desperatly need to! When i return home from my holiday i'm planning doing Ryan's bedroom, he wants all doctor who stuff. Wardrobe, bed set ect so that gonna be expensive. Then i'm going to concentrate on the living room, i need a new carpet but i don't see the point in getting a new one when the rest needs doing, so i will do the whole lot!
  2. We HAVE to know all the lower belt kata's. For instance in a grading evening, if there is only one or two yellow belts then they will go up with the red belts and be expected to do the red belt kata, because it's below their own. In black belt gradings we are told to perform a lot of the lower grade kata's. So in our club it's essential to keep training with the lower grade kata's. There are times when i'm practising them and have a little mental block and forget the odd move, personally i feel it's very important to keep up with them.
  3. I am very lucky also that i have never had a bad experience with sensei's. To be honest i have only had 3, out of them only one i wasn't too keen on. The other two are fantastic (1 i'm still with). I think a little strictness is always important especially with the children but that what you have described i feel was far too much. I agree with what Brian said about not being cut out to teach, some are just like that. I think if i was you i wouldn'y have gone back either and found somewhere more appropriate. By the way, did you find somewhere else to train?
  4. That lot would keep me quiet for months
  5. Yes Brian certainly i have seen a very huge difference and i'm so happy i stuck with it. I also had chest pain and sometimes my heartbeat seemed abnormal but it's settled now during training. Also the other week i heard my sensei talking about how bad smoking is, so yes on whole it's all fine and dandy......so anyone looking to find new years resolutions..try to give up smoking. It's the best thing i ever did!
  6. Hi there and welcome!
  7. Hey guys, what transport do you prefer to take? I am personally a bus or taxi person. Although i have noticed lately that bus fares are increasing and becoming quite expensive just for short journeys. I don't have a car because i don't drive, thats also too expensive I also use the trains quite a lot because of scattered family. I don't like using the trains because they are always late and the toilets are always either not working or blocked up! I haven't had much experience with planes or ships. I have flew once to spain and i did quite enjoy the experience. So guys what are your attitudes towards public transport and which do you prefer to take? Kez x
  8. Traditional karate!
  9. When we get older we tend to get less, especially when we become parents ourselves I must admit though this year i was very impressed with my pressie pile I got lots of bath salts and bubble bath ect (do you think someone is trying to tell me something? ). Doctor who series one boxset, warewolf figure from doctor who. Dressing gown, pj's, mp3 player and odds and ends, overall very nice. The adults tend to open their gifts after midnight on xmas morning so the kids can have our full attention on xmas morning, seems to work well that way.
  10. Yes it definatly can. I smoked for years and while training, after giving up i felt much fitter and healthy. When i was smoking and training all the way through the lesson i would cough and splutter and afterwards my chest would be sore and i often got breathless. I don't feel anything like that now and i feel much happier and my training has improved loads.
  11. Woohoo, we are having a fab time. We are in scotland at the moment. I got an mp3 player, doctor who boxset, doctor who warewolf figure and some smellies. The kids got tonnes of stuff it's great.
  12. I just use my hotmail.
  13. BJJ is that way. I've been a blue belt for almost two years. I still have about another year to year and a half before I'm elidgible for purple. It's very humbling considering I hold two third dan and one 4th dan in other arts. But I kinda like it. Three years of training and I still have about 7 to go before I can even dream about black. It really makes you focus on your technique rather than your belt (not that I focus on belts anymore, but there was a time when I did). Thats great ps1. Thats a brilliant attitude to have and i agree with you fully. Thats what i meant when i said if all belt systems where set that way then students will stop being obsessed with what belt they are on and just focus on teqnique and working hard.
  14. I don't think you would be 'normal' if you didnt get scared every now and again....now me...i am scared of everything all the time lol. I'm sure that if you were in a situation or position where you had to defend yourself or your loved one's then instinct will kick in and you will succeed in protecting yourself.
  15. Shotokan has taught me respect, i have been taught respect ect. The best thing i feel i have been taught is the basics because they are most important, and kata. It has also taught me how to be more confidence, the list is endless i guess!
  16. I dont really use one to be honest. I tend to work sums out on paper if i need to.
  17. Hello there. Welcome to KF!
  18. OOooooo my fave food. Hmmmm i love home cooking. Shepherds pie, spag bol, and a good english roast or fry up! I also love baked potato with cheese and salmon with salad!
  19. Thanks Carolyn, i thought that too, do you take them along or are they ok to wear for the whole class. when sensei wants us to spar he's like 'right get your mitts on'. No time at all to be able to go out of the dojo to put these things on!
  20. Can't say much more than what people have already said. Gaining a black belt is certainly not mastering the style. Yes gaining black belt is a great acheivement and you should be proud of yourself, but training does not end there, it's endless. There is so much more to learn!
  21. Brian i bought my son a ds for christmas and like you i have been playing it, just to check it works of course I got him two games for it, stormbreaker and worms warfare. Like you i want the mario so i may buy that to, we had the 8 bit nintendo and the mario games on that are brill. He also has a psp but he keeps that at his fathers so i have never been able to play it, maybe i will treat myself to one in the new year!
