  1. Tae Kwon Do for kicking Kenpo for everything else... hehe
  2. I'm a 2nd Degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd degree blackbelt in Kenpo. I have over 16 years experience and I've trained in other styles like Muay Thai, capoera, and Tang Soo Do. I love kicking most and love doing aerial kicking and competition. Pete
  3. I'm just curious who owns a school on this forum. I'm in the process of opening one in August. I have most of my equiptment already except mainly mirrors and stuff. What advice can you offer me to help get my school up and running and to be successful? I appreciate any input. Thanks, Pete
  4. When I was about 14 years old my older brother used to pick on me. WE fought all the time. I stuffed him with a sidekick to his stomach and he dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Boy was that a great feeling. We never had a fight since that day and I'm not 26 years old. You do the math... lol So to answer your question- sidekicks do work in real situations.
  5. dammit I'm only a yellow belt still.... HEHE someday I'll be a blackbelt again. lol
  6. If you break up then it makes th ings difficult if you have to still train with her. Been there done that.... Like they say don't crap where you eat.... hehe Pete
  7. With your ignorance you shouldn't be in the Martial Arts. You should either join the WWF or the circus cause you're obviously a clown. YOu can come up with a gay name like "The Rock"... You can call yourself "The Ignorant Idiot" or "The Rambling ******" Hehe Pete
  8. tessone I can email them to you if you give me your email address. That would be cool if you could post them Pete
  9. If you're creating a form and it is for competition then keep most of your techniques going forward towards the judges. Don't waste your time doing moves towards the back. Use 45 degree angles. I've created about 100 open forms and I know what wins and what doesn't. Make combos that include hand techniques that move into kicking and vice versa. Pete
  10. I personally would call them to make an order. I would want specific things in a katata that I had made. I know they have awesome quality and their swords are incredible. I believe they use old railroad tracks for their steel which is the strongest steel you could buy because its been forged thousands of times. Pete Let me know if you get one cause I wanna buy one.
  11. Iron Arahat you said: "Again, the original question was "is the difference to big between point fights and real fights." Think what you like but there is a big difference. " Actually the original question was Can point fighters really fight.....
  12. I would post some pics of my ride here but I guess this forum doesn't yet allow images to be uploaded.... Oh wellie... Anyone wanna go for a ride??? lol
  13. So what you're saying is NASKA champions in point fighting can't fight??? Hmmmm last I checked people like Pedro Xavier, Nasty Anderson, Ronald and Donald Brady are pretty nasty dudes. Yes they are great point fighters however, knowing their backgrounds in the Martial Arts I can guarantee they can throw down... Pedro as a matter of fact was scheduled to fight Bill Superfoot Wallace a few years back in a full contact match but Wallace couldn't fight because he ended up having hip surgery. Can ALL point fighters fight for real???? Prob. not but to say because they train for sport that they can't fight for real is asanine. Pete
  14. Well here in Boston the law states if you warn your attacker that you are carrying and they still attack then you are covered. IF the person is bigger than you, multiple attackers or weilding a weapon then the handgun is legal. Chances are if you pull a gun on someone they will not stick around long enough for you to shoot them. Pete Plus I would never pull it unless I was prepared to use it.
  15. A few years ago I weighed 130lbs. at 5"8". I was totally ripped but wanted to be bigger. I hit the gym and in about 10 months weighed 185 all muscle and still being ripped. But I did lose a tremendous amount of flexibility. Eating constantly is key. Hitting the gym and doing heavy weight for few reps. This builds bulk. Eating more... Carbs. will help gain weight.... Don't eat too many or you won't be cut. I forget the percentage of carb vs. protein I ate but if I find it I'll post it. Get Mens Health magazine cause they usually have articles on gaining weight. It is a lot of work and something you have to keep up on constantly. If you hit a goal and stop your routine you'll lose most of your weight. I no longer hit the weights I only do Martial Arts and current weigh 168lbs. at 5'8" and I'm still pretty ripped. Good Luck
  16. Well one thing most people don't know about trying to lose weight. The key is to eat more meals during the day. However, eat SMALL meals 4-5 times during the day. This will speed up your metabolism. When you go for long periods without food your body goes into starvation mode and actually starts storing fat which is what you want to avoid. By eating more often but in smaller doses your metabolism will actually increase. Cardio is your best bet for burning calories... walking or light jog is good. Stay away from high saturated fat foods and fried food. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Pete p.s. If you follow this schedule and work out 2-3 times a week for an hour or so I would say in 3 weeks tops you'll lose 5lbs. or more.
  17. Yes if you follow your tech. with your eyes it will help both in competition and with your instructor. However, you should train to make the form better for YOU... After all you are the one who wants to perfect it.
  18. HEHE the car is a blast to drive. WHen you mash the throttle it is such a rush. Many people think Mustangs don't handle well but with my suspension setup it handles great. My g/f hates the car cause its too loud and way too fast but thats what all the fun is about... Pete
  19. I train in many ways. I do enjoy the sport aspect of the martial arts and I believe that area has helped me tremendously. However, I also train the practical side. I do point fighting, continuous fighting, and also train anything goes fighting. I want to excell in every aspect of the martial arts. My main objective isn't for self defense. If my Martial Arts doesn't help me on the street I also carry a handgun so I do have a back-up. I think everyone should train in all areas of fighting as it can only help in their training. By training in only one no matter which one it will only limit what you can learn and where you can advance. Pete
  20. Intensity and Focus.... The intensity in which you perform your form tells a lot. Remember a Kata tells a story so the better you tell the story the better your form will be. Each technique represents an attack, defense, etc. so make sure it is known what you are doing. Many people put a lot of emphasis on the punches and kicks but never on the blocks... In my e yes the block is more important. Focus- make sure you put your hand or foot where it is suppossed to go. If you're throwing a front kick to the face then the kick needs to be thrown at that level, held for a split second and rechambered. Every hand technique needs to be placed at its intended location. Also, Make sure you look where you are going or are about to go. If you are turning to the back then look before you turn. How would you know someone was behind you without looking?
  21. how do you slide forward without putting the other foot down? it's pretty easy actuall.... Position your standing foot so your toes point towards the back wall. Your standing foot will be positioned 180 degrees from your kicking leg. Keep most of your weight on you back leg. As you kick you do a tiny skip (not hop) forward. So the sequence would be lift the kicking leg, slide forward, kick, slide again, kick, etc. There is a small skip between EVERY kick. Practice doing the motions without actually kicking your leg out. Just lift the kicking leg, slide, slide. One more thing... do not drop your kicking leg at any point or you will have a hard time pulling it off.
  22. To put a point fighter in the UFC is just as unfair as putting a UFC fighter in a point fighting competion. The fighter representing their discipline will most likely win because that is how they trained. I would say that someone training for no holds barred would have an advantage in some aspects but in others the point fighter. Point fighters need to be quick and have fast reflexes so on the street that will be a major advantage. Chances are they will attack and be done before their opponent even knows. N.H.B. fighters have an advantage of being all around tough guys who can take a beaten. Taking one of these guys out would be harder because of their conditioning. However, most N.H.B. fighter favor ground fighting which isn't as practical on the street esp. against multiple opponents. Either way... any Martial Artist no matter what they train for would have a slight advantage over the average street thug. Pete
  23. Well my outlook on forms is prob. different from most peoples. As a blackbelt open forms national competitor I've seen many many forms. Many people think that flash is best but unless the flash is followed with meaningful technique it is useless. In my form I executed a flashkick but it was from on technique into the flashkick into another technique. So combinations are important and runon techniques need to go. many people do forms and it looks like one continuous technique. That is no good.... I'll give more later...
  24. Try http://www.Krane.org. They have a listing of most of the krane and naska rated tornaments throughout the country. Pete
