Help! Sticky situation .. no training
bushido_man96 replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Keep your chin up, and keep searching for a school. I am confident that you will find something. -
You need to alert someone about his actions. Supervisors, teachers, anyone who will listen. Also, keep hanging out in groups. That should help. Otherwise, go to the police. Better safe than dead.

ps1 makes some very good points. In school, getting into fights is going to get both parties reprimanded. In my opinion, that is ok. It keeps the balance. Also, if one has a history of bulliness, then the school administrators will know that, and act accordingly. If my child can explain what happened and why, and then I can determine if they were at fault or not, I will punish accordingly. If the school still punishes, then fine; I can't argue their policies. However, if I feel my child was in the right, I will let the school know, and I will let my child know how I feel. Personally, looking back now, I would not worry about getting into trouble or not; I would worry about not getting beat up.

Different words that mean the same thing. It seems that Chinese words can translate in several different ways in English. Also, the "g" may sound more accurate than the "k" does in pronunciation. -

Tradition can be one of the major downfalls of TMAs. Just because it is tradition, doesn't mean it is right. -
I saw this the other day on a Pride preview. I didn't realize he was fighting professionally now. How has he faired? Is he an entertaining fighter to watch, and has he reached the upper levels of competitivness in the sport yet??

People will sue for anything these days. If you are worried about trying to avoid a lawsuit when trying to defend yourself, then you will not be very focused on the task at hand, regardless of the style that you use. What it comes down to is use of force. You would have to check the statutes for where you live to see what the laws are regarding use of force. That stated, grappling can be very effective for self-defense, because the holds that you apply can be used to restrain the aggressor until help arrives, or as you stated, you can just knock them out, and call the police. Any style can be useful for self-defense, as long as it is trained properly.

Etiquette out side the Dojo?

I feel that if you want to call one person by a title outside of their place of business, then everyone should be called by Mr. or Mrs. as well. -
That would probably be a good move on his part. But in 15 years time.....he would have to have a BIG fight purse to make that up, I'm guessing.

Your lesson plan should "be like water..." Very nice, Jiffy!

Very good point. Always be willing to make an effort to help students, but do not lie to them if you don't know something.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe she will return sometime, when they get figured out exactly what they want to do.

Will that start to affect my weight training, i.e., make me more tired, and restrict my results?

I have a contract signed where I go, but the money is withdrawn monthly from my account, so I don't have to worry about writing a check every month.

TKD has some roots in Shotokan karate, as a matter of fact. However, in order to differentiate, they elaborated on the kicking, and it became more dynamic. There are differences between ITF and WTF TKD, and a search will help with that.
