  1. Yep, that's my form. I do it a touch differently, with a little more flow. That was a good twist kick. This was a cool form, too.
  2. Yes, his name was Muso Gunnosoke. He was a Jo staff master. In the first duel, he used a bo, but he studied for several years, and then modified his technique into the jo staff system that he taught after defeating Musashi.
  3. Some of the points I agree with. The MA should be a growing, changing entity. However, I don't agree with the "Americanization" that you talk about. I think that there are many out there who appreciate what doing the MA they study. Athletes in all areas feel this way; football, basketball, wrestling, and martial artists. Sure, there are those that appear to be more "corporate," but please don't overlook all of those that do work hard. However, I do agree with you about the 7th - 10th dans that we have. There are a lot. However, I don't think it matters that some of them are young.
  4. If you are innocent, and can prove it, then I would think you would get off. I don't think that many people are wrongly accused each year. I work in a jail, and believe me, they are ALL innocent.
  5. No, you still get treatment, you just have to pay it off. Usually, it is paid off over time that way. No one is ever refused treatment.
  6. However, it is a problem with some instructors and masters.
  7. It depends on the sport, really. MMA echos self-defense quite well. However, there has been discrepancies discussed between training for self-defense, and training for sport, and the advantages of each. I always like to go back to the Judo vs. Juijitsu example, and how the sport training of judo better prepared the practitioners for full speed encounters.
  8. I have insurance through my work as well, but before that, I didn't have any. Like my dad says, "You can't afford not to have it."
  9. I don't really think so. The arms will get used to the motion after a while, and I don't think there will be a noticible strength increase.
  10. Good stuff, huh??
  11. This is good advise. My mom had a problem where her heart rate got down to like 40 bpm when she slept. And when she worked out, she couldn't even get her heart rate up to a fat burning rate, even when she was walking at 6 mph. She was put on a heart monitor to check it out, and they ended up putting a pacemaker in after all was said and done. Get it checked out, Kerry, to be safe.
  12. Man, I feel for you, Kez! You need to bag up that hand and hide it from the world until it is healed! Then, make sure you close your fists up tight when you spar from now on!
  13. Olympic style TKD has a similar rule, but it is used when it comes down to a tie in points. The more aggresive fighter will get the decision.

u probably have but you call it something different heh Nope. I know what it is, and have never sat they way for any time longer than, say, 20 seconds.
  16. Cool, thanks for the site, man! Another bookmark!
  17. This is good advise, but it won't go with everyone, however. For example, I am a detention officer, and I am really not allowed to strike anyone unless I absolutely must have to so I don't get seriously injured. Therefore, I must learn other alternatives.
  18. I see respect in two ways; those who demand it, and those who earn it.
  19. Very true, I think. To the outsider, they either want to see XMA or MMA. Not that this is bad, just that there is so much in between as well.
  20. I would usually agree with you here, that she should start training, but in this case it sounds like she would be diving into a fairly hostile environment. I hate to say this, but at this point, is it really worth it? You aren't training there. The people involved treat you poorly. This whole conflict is causing friction between you and your boyfriend at home. I have to say, if you aren't getting anything out of it, do something else with your time. It doesnt sound worth the stress you are going through, and I doubt anything will change, even if they are FORCED to apologize. They don't mean it and they don't care. You make a very good point, here, Jaymac. It comes to the point that you should maybe cut your losses. One thing that would concern me is if your boyfriend is going to continue to be un-supportive in this way, with any other things that you may go through. It is a good question to ask yourself.
  21. I think Patrick puts you up at his multi-million dollar YouGetJack-ominium
  22. Boxing would be a good idea. When you learn the rules, you can always break them. Seriously, though, I think you are going to be fighting more than one person more often then not, and their really is not much good advise as far as this goes. Several things can happen. 1, you get whipped, bad. 2, you take out the knee of one, get additional assault and batter charges, and extend your visit. 3, you get into a one on one, and don't get stabbed, and you get solitary or something. 4, you get into a fight, make it out ok, but next time, they stab you with a shank. Not good for you. I really hope you don't go to jail.
  23. Congratulations! I got a car you can use....do you remember the Flintstones???
