  1. I agree with you here. If we tell our students to never retaliate until they have been attacked, then I think we do them a disservice, and set them up for unneeded liability.
  2. Man, this is really starting to take off, isn't it?
  3. Ole what-his-name was impressed, so they must have pressed the right buttons. It was entertaining; not "traditional" by any means; very XMA. But if they were aiming for entertainment value, that it was.
  4. Wow, that is something I never thought I would see.
  5. Another way to defend it is if you see it go up, and are quick enough, just shoulder ram them with their leg at the apex. They will go down. Just a side note: even though the kick isn't in your style, the best way to learn how to defend an attack is to know the attack yourself. Wow, DWx, those were some good axe kicks. They do work well in that format.
  6. That is why I NEVER loan out my library!!!
  7. I see what you are saying here. This would be tough to do. Especially because I'll bet that we all take for granted the fact that our students can see. It would be fun for both teachers and students if we did a class where we had the students blindfold themselves.
  8. I guess it is because in TKD, we have to the form for our rank. Basically, we have to compete with the form of our rank, and within the same rank (or one below or above). I guess it has to do with doing the form for you skill level and rank, as opposed to doing a lower ranked form.
  9. 5-12-08 Chest/triceps Bench press: 155x10, 195x6, 210x4 Dips: 3x5 Upward cable crossovers: 30x10, 10, 40x10 Abs Hanging leg raise: 2x5 Hanging knee raise: 2x10 Technique work Front kick: 40x5, 5, 5 Jab/cross: 10x10, 10, 10 Back kick: 40x5, 5, 5 Middle block: 8x10, 10, 10
  10. 5-12-08 Push-ups: 3x15 Done at work, with my gear on.
  11. But if you are on your own, then you don't have to follow those rules, right?
  12. I wonder how challenging it is to teach in those circumstances? I'll bet it would be interesting.
  13. That is kind of cool. Team building like this happens quite a bit in MA training, so taking it this far doesn't really suprise me.
  14. My daughter has a NintendoDS.
  15. I await the arrival of Brisinger as well. The movie was horrible. Right now, I am reading Atantis Found (Cussler).
  16. Why does there have to be a 10th dan present? I don't think that it would be something that is required, especially if you are breaking away.
  17. I agree that most of the time, we should be able to recognize trouble, and stay out of it. However, there are times when it is much more subtle, and there may not be signs of something going to happen. It may not be directed at you, either. You may just be viewed as a casualty of war, so to speak.
  18. Black Belt Magazine did a piece on this new movie. It sounds like it will be pretty good. I want to see it.
  19. People get so bent out of shape over goofy things.
  20. Amen, tallgeese! Amen!!!
  21. Those rules sound bunk to me. If you are going to drop the high and low, which I have seen, then don't add them back to break ties. For tie breakers, each competitor does the same form again. Then, the winner is chosen. If one guy messes it up, then he is stuck with 2nd place. That's the way I see it. I would not return to that tourney.
  22. I think that Wrestling does get the short end of the stick in these cases. It is unfortunate. Especially since ASU had a decent program. I didn't think that Title IX applied in college? Am I wrong?
  23. I hope that you are right. I would be all for it, for sure.
  24. I have heard this advise quite a bit. It sounds to be a very gradual, natural process. Thanks for the advise.
