  1. Sure we could have a Karateforum sparring holiday. Or we could all go to Sydney harbour and sit in the sun.

  4. and dull, although i've watched our two sensei's spar (father and son) and i have to admit that one strike at a time would have been good. Simo, when I go to Australia on holiday, i'll let you know.
  5. I've got the same problem, although my partner comes with me, i do the workouts when i get home and she spends her time watching soaps. I think it might be that you like doing something without her. I found the best way was to sit with her. I spent an agonising week watching soaps, it was horrible. Although I got my way in the end and she now has no problems with me going to workout. Edited: Due to a comment that was not thought about properly.
  6. If you wheren't so far away i'd say we could practice together although the other side of the world is a long trip for a few hours sparring
  7. I've been thinking about taking supplements, protein shakes and vitamins to help me gain muscle mass. Can anyone recommend any thing or where i should start.
  8. I've got my green belt grading on the 30th of April and ran through the kata's yesterday, unfortunately i've kinda forgotten some of them or keep adding part of the 3rd kata with the 4th etc.

  10. I was talking to my Sensei last night about competition sparring (not that im going to be doing it for a while as im still a low grade). I found out that in the competition sparring you can't use grapples or holds! Im not sure about any other styles/competitions however this kinda annoyed me as you spend all this time learning the techniques but won't be able to use them. I'm a big guy so grappling and holds, would bring the match to my speed.
  11. My missus and I go to Karate together. The problem is when I annoy her, she normally hits and kicks a little harder and quicker.
  12. This hurts alot, even if you do it to yourself. The smaller amount you can pinch the more it hurts. Give it a go, hold a ball or something and then pinch yourself. You maybe able to hold it for a while but do it fast and hard.

    Favorite Kata

    Im still a low belt in Shotokan karate but my fav so far is Heian Yondan.
  16. I can't speak from proper sparring experience, however I don't think I would ever use 100% of my strength against anyone when sparring. However I would use different amounts against different opponents
  17. I do shotokan karate, but my boss does jujitsu. So this is only hearsay. I think it also depends on the class. But you have kata's to do but i think its only a stances kata and a punch/block kata. Gradings are supposed to be harder, as the gradings require you to do everything from the previous belt as well.

  20. I'm one of those 'big' guys your refering to. Standing 6'7" and weighing in at 220. You may think that its a problem fighting a big guy, try being the big guy. More weight to move about, less balance, less speed. Its a problem, I have noticed a few people saying about chokes takes 'big' people down. Not me personally but a guy i've trained with can stand up with me hanging off his neck in a choke hold for about a minute. His neck is massive, i've even had him drop to his knees and then stand up again. My trick is to wait until they jump on my back, which they always do, then drop my shoulder and flip onto them. That normally sorts it. Just remember, if their big and your small. Your quick and their slow. Use the things that you where given. I'm usless at punches so if someone comes in close then i have a problem.

  23. Hi Guys and Girls I have been doing karate for around 10 months and notice that I am being held back by been over weight and unfit. So i've taken up running and weights. 1st question, is that after I run i get pains in my shin's that hurt quite alot. I only do a 2 mile slow jog. Any one else have this problem? 2nd question is, I read in Bruce Lee's training guide that to increase his forearm strength he did lots of things but one was 'Dumbell Circles' I have looked through all the bodybuilding sites and weightlifting website and cannot find what these are. Any help is appreciated. Regards Orion
  24. I have the same problem with clicking joints. Been to the doctor and he told me it was because I was growing. At 6"7 and nearly 23, I hope im not growing anymore.
