Found a great video for some warmup exercises using a tonfa. Thought you might like it.

Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?

I agree. Few people start out good at sparring without prior training. You'll get better with practice. Focus on technique, distance, footwork and timing.

Congrats!

37%... heh... and I'm a web designer.

I can't think of any but the web is a great resource for that sort of thing. Do a search on youtube and google video for the specific kata name for video. Some will be garbage, but usually you can find one or two gems out there.

It'll come with practice if you pay attention to it. I used to wind up leaning when I first started sparring and wound up taking a good front kick to the sternum for it. That made me make sure to pay attention afterwards What really helps is getting a partner and doing one and two step sparring... slowly. You need to get used to having someone attacking you, so do it in a safe and slow environment so you can see what works and what doesn't work without worrying about whether or not you're going to lose our head. Stand far enough away that he can barely touch you so you have to do your techniques correctly in order to reach him. Both of you pay special attention to your posture.

That's a really cool concept. I wish we had something like that around here.

What do you do then when she starts screaming rape? -
I prefer the normal bags myself. I find them more versatile.

They usually all have their own sets of regulations. I'm in an AAU group and these are some of the guidelines we have to follow in tournament: 1. Gi has to be all white and must only have one AAU patch on the breast. 2. We have to use a specific type of glove and wear cup, mouth guard, and helmet(optional over 18) 3. Kobudo weapons must be made of wood and not light or tapered, have any decals or non-natural coloring. 4. Divisions are broken up into four groups: Beginner(less than a year of experience, wears a white belt),Novice(1-2 years, wears a green belt), Intermediate(2-3 years, wears a brown belt), and advance(3+ years, wears a black belt) 5. Light to moderate contact to everything but the head. Only touch allowed to head. That's just a few of the rules we follow. I'm sure if you get to the org's websites, they'd have a listing of all their rules.

How about the "I have to register my hands as deadly weapons" myth? I could take someone out with a chair... does that mean I have to register my chair as a deadly weapon?

Life is the search for the meaning of life.

My favorite collectible card game was Jyhad which was changed to Vampire the Eternal Struggle because people were confusing it with jihad and giving it bad press. Another favorite was Illuminati New World Order. As for regular card games I'm a big speed fan.

Clue and Risk. I'm actually starting to get into Go though.

The hardest part of training is always the trip from the couch to the dojo.

I remember my sensei telling us stories of how when they were young black belts, some of the people he knew would take turns knocking paper cups or apples out of people's mouths with 'chucks. Said they were lucky they didn't seriously injure someone.(and that it was long before people got sue happy)

I think I posted this elsewhere on the forums once. Would work for beer the same as soda: If you consume 1 can of regular soda a day, how many pounds would you lose if you eliminate that? 1 can of regular soda contains about 150 calories. Giving up 1 can a day is equivalent to giving up 150 x 365 = 54,750 calories a year. For every 1000 calories burnt you lose 110 grams of fat, or about 1/4 pound. Therefore, giving 1 can of soda a day equals not putting on 54,750 / 1000 x 110 = 6022 grams, or about 13 pounds. You can be 6 kg or 13 lb a year lighter by giving up that 1 regular can of soda a day.

Congratulations, that's a pretty big load to carry while going to college.

I don't think it's some mystical force or anything, but I do believe it is something that people possess and can manipulate to an extent.
