  1. but don't you think that the guy who has trained to kick knows how to keep balance? it's a bit simplistic to simply say that just cos he is kicking, he is off balance...
  2. well that's the thing. the gracies challenged a lot of people, not just emin but somehow none of these guys were ever fought. instead we had fights with people they had paid. anyway. back to the videos for one final time. using your sources there is now only one instance where a wing chun guy lost to a mma guy. that still gives a 100% lose statistic against wing chun BUT it is only from one source. i will finish by saying that i just don't like statistics and i don't trust videos that i don't know the origins of. that was all i ways trying to say.
  3. you really do like arguing don't you. i go and point out what i think looks a bit dodgy and you go and make snide remarks. as i was saying. the guy is listed as a 'kung fu' master. where did you get the bit about him being a wing chun master? as for emin and his challenges. i was under the impression that he, benny urquidez and many others were challenged at the beginning of the ufc. emin says he issued a challenge back but he didn't get a reply. his words so make of it what you will. personally i can't find anything else that talks about this apart from things from him and his organisation (and past organisation).
  4. ok, finally got the vids you mentioned. well first of all, like i keep saying, the first vid (against the karate guy) is suspect. i mean, can you see any sort of technique there? and the 'demonstration' of some forms in the beginning is just crap. you decide. i personally think it has little value. as for the second vid, i should point out that the skin-headed guy is keith kernspetch, head of the european wing tsun organisation. i should also point out that the clip looks like it was released by their organisation so i regard it to have little value. the guy whose arm you think you hear go 'pop' is only listed as a kung fu master. no style or lineage is mentioned. one thing bugs me about this video though. why on earth is that guy in a traditional chinese jacket? it's not like we insist we wear it to fight/train unlike a gi. it looks a bit suspect to me. the only one there of value is the ufc video. but then, as far as i'm aware, a lot of fights between other styles and mma look like that.
  5. why waste words? i let my hands do the 'talking'. oh by the way, he has no spine...
  6. well, it only really becomes an issue when you qualify your reasons for changing. you can say you changed it to make it better. or you could say that you changed it to better suit yourself. as i always say, the question of politics only really arises and causes problems (for us as students) if you let them.
  7. um, passport is not an entrance visa... i have a passport but i still need a visa to enter japan.
  8. for the last tme. i am not saying i don't believe you or even trying to argue that the videos that show wing chun guy losing are fake. just pointing out the failures of statistics and videos as a 'reliable' source. in any case, thanks for the links. saved me a lot of time.
  9. as i was saying, there is always the possibility that any video is fake. it's called propaganda. like i say, the first video is very suspect... still haven't found the other two.
  10. why the wu tang symbol cos as far as i can tell, you're not learning wu tang style... or perhaps you've changed your mind again?
  11. and then it also depends on what kinda of crime you look at. how about of all the corporate frauds and thefts (and the other 'blue collar' crimes) making guns compulsory isn't going to change that much.
  12. and so can most people. i just don't understand. why do you assume that a guy who mainly trains to kick can't deal with punches? if he can deal with kicks aimed at all heights why can't he deal with punches that ONLY aim for the top half of the body? after all, name one martial art that doesn't teach the protecting of the head and body? if you are taking the extreme view that punchers DON'T kick and kickers DON'T punch then i'll argue that the puncher will have problems because the kicker can target at any height and has a range advantage.
  13. brief description of wing chun: quick hands. quick steps. simple moves. ultimate aim: to 'block'/receive and hit with one movement (or even just one hand) using superior footwork and better positioning than opponent. direct hitting to vulnerable areas i.e head, throat/neck, plexus, side/kidney, hip, knee, shin aims to be in control of situation either by being the quicker to hit or the one controlling the arms by trapping/pinning (again a positional thing) if you cannot control the arms (or leg for that matter), 'destroy' them by way of break or hit to pressure point. generally not many kicks and kicks not used unless hands are tied. kicks strictly at hip level or below (although some use kicks to lower stomach/abs area as well). top three roads, use hands to 'block' bottom three roads, use legs to deal with. then there's lots of energy theory as well and a little collection of phrases/ideals/principles that we try to work to but i'll stop here cos i think i've said enough to understand how we do things.
  14. i am not a monk and i am not a beer person but i am feeling a bit off these days. girl problem....
  15. a visa is required to enter a country for ANY purpose...
  16. in my opinion, the best thing out there related to the matrix were the little stories they had on the website. in particular, the one about the guy they wake up to fight off alien invaders was a peach to read...
  17. i wish people would credit whenever they use other people's words...
  18. it's just the words of another who believes that people who primarily kick cannot take/block/actually punch. whilst the guys who punch can take/block whatever comes there way.
  19. and back to my post. it doesn't matter if it is true or not, or whether you agree or disagree. the original thread was about the things chinese arts are 'famous' for. fact is, a lot of people believe that they don't work. so, ONE answer to the question 'what are chinese arts famous for?' is 'they are famous for not working'
  20. haha... some youngsters from a village 'man-handle' their instructor and all 160 students go and attack them... i'm not sure what's more funny, the fact that it took 160 of them, or the fact that the instructor got 'man-handled' by kids.
  21. how would you do this quad kick? if you don't land on the ground, what do you land on?
  22. um, try to not to use wushu as an example. even wushu guys don't claim they can fight... if you know anything about chinese martial arts then you will know that within their own systems there is good ol' 'fah quan, shou tui'. modern wushu/quo-shu is a prime example of this.
  23. how about making body armour compulsory and firearms illegal. that way, the police can just shoot everyone on sight in the chest...
  24. i think chinese martial arts are famous for 'not working'...
