  1. Actually it is smart to start with foam. It gives you a base idea on how a nunchaku moves with out the pain of when you screw up badly. The move to the wood, you dont really have to relearn it, it is just different with the weight, I had no problem when I started using real nunchaku from the padded.
  2. I mean, it hurts, a lot...when you miss
  3. Wood and cord, its as unknownstyle said, better for joint locks and control
  4. Google is a wonderful thing, century seems to have good weapons all together, and it is good as a start, I would get more high class ones later on.
  5. Dont start swinging low...for the love of god, dont swing low untill you know what your doing.
  6. It depends on your nunchaku. They all vary from weight. I perfer red oak anyway though...
  7. Yes, called a Kai or Eku depending on who you ask. More for show / cultural, I'd rather have a stick. Define "learn" Not sure, I've seen a few advertised. Century might have one on it in there Panther stuff. I would have to disagree with you. Not for show. It is a very effective weapon. The small end is used to jab at the opponet, and the large end to hit. The large end was also used to fling dirt into the enemy's eyes. That move is actually used in most katas.
  8. Why limit yourself? They both have there ups and downs...its like a stalemate, try to train in both of them.
  9. Push your hips up and foward. If done right with enough force it will fling him off balance and cause him to go foward. His hands should land somewhere next to your head. Wrap you arms around his and push over to your side. He will be on your back watch out if he has some experience in ground fighting he will get you in the guard.
  10. Watch old fights before you fight?
  11. Getting beat is no big deal. There will alway be someone that can beat you. You should learn from your mistakes and come back stronger next time.
  12. Its like The Last Samurai put it. To many minds. Your thinking to much. Let your body do 95% of the thinking, and your mind 5% Your body acts faster than the mind and if you clear your head your body should take over.
  13. I actually did one of his seminars. He is a great teacher, he is one of those people that has done so many seminars that its not fun unless he isn't serious. My teacher did an interview with him on his podcast website https://www.karatekast.com. Look it up.
  14. My school has a belt fee of 5 bucks, but thats it.
  15. Thats a very good point.
  16. And because Goju Ryu is a softer style of Okinawan Karate. And it didn't actually get roots from every type of kung fu, that would be the only way it would be easy for a Goju Ryu person to join any kung fu. And Goju Ryu has Shaolin Kung fu roots, a harder style of kung fu. So it might not be as easy as you think.
  17. LOL, i was having a bad day and that made it good
  18. In Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu a vertical punch is for power, it is called a shiringi (excuse the spelling, im tired) and horizantal is called matsumura, vertical is used for power and horizantal is used for technigue, you just haveuse the right punch at the same time.
  19. Memphis is a very big city. There has to be a good instructor somewhere there. You just have to ask your boys if they want to take another class somewhere else. And if they say yes, im sure pay classes have a free trial class, but if you can find someone that will teach them for free, that is the best thing, because there are no strings attached, it just means the instructor is teaching for fun. But you just have to look hard.
  20. Zaine, and *, and stupid, and some others I am not aloud to say on this forum.
  21. Nothing, because I am a super-hero!, lol. Me just blacking out with rage, thats scary cause your dont know whats going to happen
  22. Lol, a strait punch is faster than a hook no matter which way you look at it. But if someone threw one at me, i would block it, wrap my arm around the attackers, pull up, (a standing shoulder lock i think.....) and palm heel into the chest. I did that same move at a tournament once.
  23. It is pretty necessary to breath, and eat. Im pretty sure thats what keeps us alive, lol.
  24. Lol, one time i was singing a song in my head and my sensei asked me a question so i started quoting the song. lol, It was so embarrasing.
