Anbu Alex replied to RedRaven's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training

Anbu Alex replied to MizuRyu's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts

Ninpo
Anbu Alex replied to MizuRyu's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
yea ninpo has close ties to Shnito and Buhddist religions doing the kuji dont mean anything if you dont know the meaning of it -
Yea kendo is about paticence and timing and waiting for an opening to attack

Boxing, how to defend
Anbu Alex replied to bma_mat's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Unless some one is Kneeing you the power of the kick is at the foot so if you move in close and "Box" him in the face i also like Justfulwardog's idea -
for self defense use you dont need to carry around a retractible bo (although that would be cool) if u know how to use the bo any stick on the ground can be your bo

3 months worth it?
Anbu Alex replied to mourning_'s topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
oh it is but in my school they taught bjj for added ground work -
"yeah but when you hit me there it dont hurt!"
Anbu Alex replied to h2whoa's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
sometimes techs that dont hurt arent ment for hurting a person they can be used to open up the opponents defense -
3 months worth it?
Anbu Alex replied to mourning_'s topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
now im not the biggest fan of bjj (i had to take it in jkd) but i will admit if its ground work you want its one of the best out there -
what uniform & sparing gear do you use
Anbu Alex replied to matbla's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
we wear either a black gi or gi pants with a black or white shirt and i wished we had protective gear for sparring lol -
First i took TKD got to Blue Belt then took Wushu Kungfu reached to 4 patch (we used a pach system) then Jkd got to around the advance Level Now im a 7th kyu in Bujinkan Taijutsu
-
in taijutsu our kicks are weird cause our chamber isnt a chamber (its hard to explian with type) but we have the equvilant to a sucker punch with kick where you kick like playing Hacky sack and the whole leg can be used to kick even the knee

Ninpo
Anbu Alex replied to MizuRyu's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
the Kuji or hand postures arent necesarily for ninja magic they are more for focus and concetration or even to fake out an opponent alot of ppl's knowlage of the kuji are from Steven Hayes books, video games, movies, and comic books. Now the Question is am i lying to you or telling the truth ninja mind trick mwahahahahahahaha -
Power in the Punch
Anbu Alex replied to Jay's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
In jkd like kung fu, boxing and tai jutsu they put their whole body into the punch to create proper body and bone elinement with power coming from the legs and opening the hips so in actuallity they are hit with their body weight not arm strength -
ok thanks for clearing that up. i say it depends on who wants it more and trained the hardest

People in this post keep talking about strength in my opinion strenght isnt everything and boxer as someone brought up does have strength but combines it with development of speed, and Technique and able to fight for a long time. ive faced people who are stronger than me and beat them with pure technique strength doesnt always overpower tech thats more of a mma thing thats how the gracies dominated mma with tech usally also ppl who rely on strenght will lose to a guy with better endurance/Durability (i know from experience) im not denying strength is a factor but it isnt everything in martial arts

Dating someone that goes to the same school as u?
Anbu Alex replied to RDsynMBZ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
dont disagree with dating in the dojo but i say keep your two worlds seperate cause a friend of mind was in this situation and got sick of the grl trying to kiss him during class and now he has to step it up to get back in the groove -
in some styles like kungfu tech in key in developing strength its like a double edge sword when it comes to these things this is a hard question to answer
-
the same can be said about kendo. kendo isnt battlefield fighting it was a sport derived from kenjutsu and iadojutsu but it is still considered a martial art

BJJ vs Judo
Anbu Alex replied to b3n's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
ima have to agree judo if you decide to be mean you can end the fight with a throw and all together stop going to the ground and even if it does go down the guy maybe stuned enough to end the fight -
i like that you listed the factors of making a chioce in martial arts i got me thinking and reviewing my training to make sure im training right

motivation problem; lost of interest
Anbu Alex replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
thats awsome im happy to hear that its kool that your teach was still humble and seem happy that you just came to train i know that feeling i think thats why i like my dojo so much its like a family i felt that even more when i got promoted this week and everyone was happy for me even ppl who were there longer and trained longer than me that i passed in rank thats one reason why i stayed in the martial arts
