  1. Welcome
  2. It sounds like you just tore a muscle, however i dont know the correct way to properly heal the issue, except for rest of course...
  3. Not even Makiwara's? O.O Depends if you know how to properly use it.
  4. Shotokan's symbol is the tiger, if you think about it certain moves can resemble that of a tiger.
  5. Its happened to me, but nothing big, just during a drill with a grappler... I thought if i could pound on his body while he was doing it, he might back off, didnt work and thats the result.
  6. Well i just use a heavy bag, and once in awhile i have a makiwara availible at the club on free training nights. But ever since i accidently punched my basement concrete wall as hard as i could, i can anything i want without any pain what so ever...
  7. Lineage matters to me - it's the conection to the past & shows a clear progression of the style into the present day. Honoring your lineage pays respect for the brilliant contributions of past masters to an evolving art. Reminding you that only through dedicated daily practice can you attain the martial skills the style is recognized for. It helps me stay motivated when I'm lazy & don't feel like training. I completely agree, I also sometimes think about why things changed and think about how I could use it.

    kater

Passed my 2nd kyu test last week, got to work on lower stances. Also some more sparring would help alot.
  10. Simply i dont think there should be an issue. Those who dont agree with the shotokan way can simply start there own club. Unless the masters of the world decided there was a need for change...
  11. yea, his body just didnt seem to move right. Good quality of editing though
  12. Lol reminds me of last night actually, we just had a snow storm. I ended up truding 2km to my dojo through it.
  13. If im not mistaken, Kahn or in this case kan means king or ruler. so, Shotokan would translate roughly into "the king among the waving pines". if you were to stumble upon such a creature such as a tiger in a forest while meditating on karate, you would so inspired, i know i would, as to adopt its image as your mascot. The King among the Waving Pines and picture a tiger walking among the pine trees under a moonlit sky...the tiger doesnt seem like such a bad idea now does it? This is a completely different "kan". The "kan" of "ShotoKAN" means "hall" or, basically, "studio". It basically just implies that this is the place where "Shoto"-type karate is practiced. The "rolled tiger" is a play on words in japanese. The tiger itself was not meant to be a symbol of Shotokan. It was just an interesting piece of artwork chosen for the cover of a book. yep, agreed with the first part

  15. all depends on who you want to become in view of a martial artist, some people( mostly beginners) just ditch traditions because they think its useless in fighting. Which i can understand, but taking away that maybe taking away the art in martial art......
  16. Never heard of that before?
  17. Hello
  18. true, but coming from such a background i think it should maybe have a little more culture and tradition in it...
  19. thats alot of money to pay i think though
  20. make sure you know what your teaching so throughly it......i cant think of a clever saying but i think you get the point
  21. i doubt it, mostly because it seems any MA that isnt MMA wont be respected by average public schools
