  1. they don't really "take" from anything. and actually, wrestling and boxing aren't tma. bjj and thai boxing are considered by you traditional guys to be "sport" and "modern". In addition, there are only so many ways to hurt someone. whether the style is old or new, there is bound to be crossover there. the main difference is in the training methods, not the techniques. yea, good point. However im niether TMA or MMA( i trained muay thai too),
  2. I think its a great idea, however personaly i think a black belts poistion shouldnt be question. I think a black belt should be a concrete thing, your there or your not. I find probation is kind of contradicting
  3. Yea, Welcome
  4. interesting, what weaknesses do you find in him?
  5. cool topic, wish i thought of it
  6. maybe it was takin wrongly, if someone tried to punch me i could block their punch in rare situations and then they would be at the disadvantage, its worked for me in the past so hey whatever works
  7. i ahvnt heard of that, but i can see why they would do it even though i w ouldnt d it myself if i ran the place. Go to fact to look at the different avartars......in the top left corner
  8. i would disagree, i see blocking as a method to oportun the situation and adjust yourself, but u should becareful with it
  9. ooooo, still a question though. When people say they train traditional TKD do they mean they train chung do kwan?
  10. Im not a practitioner of that style. however iam curious to what it is like?
  11. well for one...kata, and basics. have certain days to work on one region of your body such as upper one day and lower another, that way you give your body time to heal and become stronger. Other than that im not much help to you, try google also. There are some pretty useful sites for this kind of stuff. P.S-Welcome to KF.....
  12. I dont think non-gi and gi situations should be looked at as aposing or competing. Tradition i think is supposed to let be able to adapt to your situation, i dont think it should be an argument just do what you want to.
  13. I think he was a great martil artist, but i dont think in my mind there was ever or will be a greatest martial artist
  14. whats wierd is that everyone martial artist i pretty much talk to, dont actually like the whole belt idea. If EVERYONE(with exceptions of course) doesnt like it, why is it still around? Or is it for marketing?
  15. Welcome
  16. ok
  17. As long as TKD doesnt have any influence on shotokan, because i belive those two martial arts should be kept apart.
  18. Im a month late but apparently i didnt welcome you, so welcome
  19. I cross trained, betweened muay thai and shotokan. I would suggest cross training if your current martial art feels lacking, it might either let you find a new passion or hopefully let you realize how you much you enjoy your current one.
  20. Had a tournament a week ago, i worked some of the advice here. Thanks for the advice. It was a success, also alot of the taller competetors tended to have bad posture, so that was a nice advantage.
